Holidays in Newquay

Holidays in Newquay are all about stunning scenery, beaches, and, of course, waves. As it’s the surf capital of the UK, you’ll find an abundance of surf shops and schools allowing you to immerse yourself in the surfing culture from the moment you arrive, whether you just want to watch or get stuck in.

However, if surfing isn’t for you, there are plenty of ways to fill the days while staying in the stunning beachside town of Newquay. Head to one of the many beaches for a family day on the sand - picture rock pooling, picnics, and sandy toes! Or, if you fancy a bit of retail therapy, the bustling town has a selection of independent shops selling an array of goods including clothes, artwork, and delightful handmade treats – not to mention a mouth-watering selection of cafés, bars, and restaurants for a mid-shopping or post-beach refuel.

Newquay also has a selection of attractions and events, perfect for the kids (and big kids) from a wild and wonderful zoo to a round of golf by the sea. There are also some great walks in the area thanks to the beautiful South West Coast Path, perfect for a dog-friendly Cornish getaway.

Did you know...

Newquay has nine sandy beaches to choose from!

Beaches in Newquay

When staying at a holiday cottage in Newquay, you won’t be short of aquatic adventures, with lots of sandy beaches on your doorstep. All of Newquay’s beaches are lifeguarded in the summer, providing a safe place to spend the day soaking up the sun.

Fistral beach – What do you call the best beach for surfing in the UK? Fistral! With the most consistent surfing in the country and great swathes of golden sand, there’s little doubt as to why surfers flock here from all over the place. You’ll find a surf school and wetsuit hire for those wanting to travel light and it’s dog friendly all year round for those travelling with furry companions.

Watergate Bay – Second on Newquay’s surfing scoreboard, Watergate Bay offers a seriously spacious alternative to Fistral whether you fancy a surf, a stroll or a hot chocolate in the beachside café.

Crantock beach – If you prefer a quieter beach backed by sand dunes then Crantock beach won’t disappoint. Dog-friendly and perfectly sheltered on the southern end, this sandy haven is popular with families and anyone looking for a place to doze in the sand.

Newquay Towan – Right in the centre of the town, Newquay Towan is great for quick dips and sandy escapes while you explore the surrounding shops, attractions, and perhaps even a bar or two!

Great Western, Porth, Whipsiderry, Tolcarne, Lusty Glaze, and Mawgan Porth are also fantastic beaches in Newquay. Read all about them in our extended guide and discover your favourite!

Things to do in Newquay

With quick access to the rugged north Cornish coast and some fun-fuelled attractions and activities, there are lots of great things to do in Newquay.

Surfing & Watersports

Whether you’re a first-timer or a seasoned pro, the beaches of Newquay offer something for every ability, weather forecast, and tide. And it’s not just surfing on offer either. Bring your own seafaring devices or hire kayaks and paddleboards from one of the many rental shops around.

Attractions

With such an abundance of attractions in and around Newquay, it’s the perfect place for a family holiday at any time of year. Newquay Zoo offers a great day out, as do the nearby Screech Owl Sanctuary and the Blue Reef Aquarium. For those who love to explore the heritage of a town, Trerice Manor House offers a beautiful walk through history.

If you fancy something a bit different, fishing trips and sea safaris are available, from which you can take in the scenery from a different angle. You may even be lucky enough to catch a sight of seals and dolphins!

Newquay Golf Club overlooks Fistral beach and is regarded as one of the best golf courses in the county, providing a different challenge every day depending on the weather, all with incredible sea views.

Shopping

From beach supplies to holiday mementoes, Newquay’s streets are lined with lots of interesting shops from big names to independent favourites. Unsurprisingly, there are plenty of surf shops where you can fill up your beachy wardrobe including Married to the Sea, Boardwalk Surf Shop, Watershed, and Ann’s Cottage – some even have surfboards too so you can really kit yourself out. Razzmatazz is an eclectic mix of fun, holiday take-homes and Lucky Go Happy provides a lovely selection of ethical bits and bobs for the whole family.

If you’ve got a sweet tooth, a trip to Roly’s Fudge Pantry or Cornish Cream will see it satisfied as you’ll find a fantastic array of Cornish chocolates, fudge, and even Cornish cream tea hampers (which make for the ultimate beachside picnic).

Walks

With the north Cornish coast right on your doorstep, it will come as little surprise that Newquay is jam-packed with incredible walks. Walk around Park Head (which you might recognise from Poldark) and Pentire Steps for some stunning coastal views or trudge along to Lappa Valley where you can swap the rippling blue of the sea for the dappled shade of the woods. You’ll also find a lovely area around the Porth Reservoir and surrounding wildlife reserve, giving wildlife watchers plenty of opportunities to whip the binoculars out.

Dining out

Newquay's vibrant foodie scene has grown and grown over the years, with the town now offering something for every taste and occasion. If you want to eat out, you’ll find a huge selection of eateries, including many beach cafés and restaurants serving up locally caught seafood with incredible sea views. Or, if you fancy something special after a day surfing the waves, check out the many fantastic fine dining options or cocktail bars for a relaxing drink.

If you want to stay in and make the most of your lovely home from home, there are some excellent farmshops and delis in the area, including the welcoming Trevilley Farm for all your locally-produced needs or Malcolm Barnecutt Bakery for some seriously moreish fresh bakes.

Dog-friendly Newquay

If you want to bring your four-legged friend with you on your Cornish holiday, you couldn’t pick a better spot than Newquay where you’ll find plenty of great dog walks.

Dog-friendly beaches

Fistral beach – Surf, sea, and sandy paws, it’s all waiting for you at Fistral beach 365 days a year.

Watergate Bay – With miles of sand and lots of rockpools and caves to sniff out at low tide, this dog-friendly beach is a favourite with dogs and humans alike.

Whipsiderry beach – Considered a hidden gem by many, dogs are welcome throughout the year on Whipsiderry so why not take a dog-nap in the sand before checking out those rock formations!

Mawgan Porth beach – with Bedruthan Steps a short walk away and lots of sand for zoomies, the beach at Mawgan Porth is great for tuckering out the pooch (and the kids).

You can also see these beaches from the water, as many of the boat trips in the area welcome seadogs aboard!

Dog-friendly pubs and restaurants

When it comes to dinner time, there are plenty of dog-friendly pubs, restaurants and cafés where the whole pack can shake the day off and refuel.

Lewinnick Lodge – Perfectly placed up on the cliffs on the Pentire Headland, Lewinnick Lodge offers sea views with your meal, whether it’s breakfast, lunch or evening drinks with the pooch by your side.

Lakeside Café – Another dreamy spot for a bite to eat, Lakeside Café not only provides delicious treats for its human guests but for its doggie guests too – homemade dog ice cream should get those tails wagging!

The Old Albion Inn – 400 years old with no signs of slowing down, The Old Albion has truly perfected its welcoming atmosphere. Enjoy the thatched roof as you enter and the fully-stocked bar when you’re inside.

What's on in Newquay

Whether you love music and surfing, beer or food, there’s a festival in Newquay for you…

Cornwall Street Food Festival

Hitting the cliffs in June, Cornwall’s inaugural Street Food Festival brings cuisines from all over the world together as people celebrate great food and great views.

Boardmasters

This surf and music festival seems to get bigger every year as thousands descend on Newquay's Fistral Beach and Watergate Bay to watch surf competitions and live music while sampling all that Newquay has to offer.

Newquay Beer Festival

Sample over 50 ales and enjoy live music as you make the most of Newquay’s one and only beer festival, which takes over Hendra Holiday Park every September.

Getting around

While lots of Newquay’s beaches, shops and eateries are within walking distance, there are also lots of buses as well as a train station so you can leave the car behind when exploring all North Cornwall has to offer. There are also plenty of car parks in and around the town, so whichever mode of transport you choose, life’s a Cornish breeze.

What our guests say...

We know how important honest reviews are when it comes to booking your holiday. To help you choose the right property for you, we publish all reviews left by guests who have stayed here in the past, with the few exceptions stated in our Review Guidelines. Please bear in mind that some facilities referred to by past guests in reviews can be removed or changed at any time.

Great property with lovely views. Had everything you could need and was all as described. Lovely to arrive to find a cream tea in the fridge! Plenty of car parking space and lovely views.

Aspect holidays are always helpful and pleasant on the phone

A lovely clean, well appointed apartment with amazing views close to Fistral beach. Dog friendly, great walks from the door. Thoroughly recommend.

It was a really lovely apartment with terrific views. The welcome goodies (scones, clotted cream & jam along with tea, coffee & a pint of milk)were a treat and the supplies of cleaning products & toilet roll to get us started was really helpful. Everything we wanted & needed for a week away. Will be recommending it.

Very clean and everything you need for a good self catering holiday

This is our second time at Spindrift View, we loved it so much August 2022 that we booked it again during our stay for this year August 2023. We also recommend the apartment to a family member who also came a couple of weeks before us, loved it and has now booked it again for 2024. Perfect place in a perfect spot. Amazing views and fully equipped with all basic essentials.

Easy to use, quick communication

Such a fantastic apartment. Beautiful location, well appointed and spotlessly clean. We cannot sing Spindrift Views praises highly enough. We loved our stay, just wish it could have been longer!

A lovely apartment with brilliant views of Fistral beach. Be aware that there are steps down to the apartment from the upper car park and a short walk from the lower car park

Fantastic apartment, home from home! absolutely everything you could need.Very clean & nicely furnished Beautiful sea views in a wonderful location.

Aspect holidays staff are always very helpful and polite

Great few winter days at Spindrift. The view of Fistral beach is lovely. Nice clean apartment with very comfortable bed. Plenty of parking. However there are quite a lot of concrete steps down to the front door from the upper carpark.

Great accommodation in a great place. Lovely sitting on the sofa watching the sea and surfers.

Really enjoyed our stay, and called it out home for a week, Shame about the wind and rain but that didn’t put a stop to enjoying this fantastic property and the excellent location and view each morning waking up to the sea. Ended our holiday watching the fireworks at fristral beach which again spindrift gave a fantastic viewing spot. Will be back soon

Well done to the owners! It’s fully equipped with everything you would have at home and more! Couldn’t ask for a better spot, the views are amazing. Will definitely book again, already tried a few dates for next year but already booked! Definitely doesn’t disappoint!

A great stay and Fistral Beach at this end is much quieter than the main side. Lovely walks, view’s that have to be the best in England and if the weather is good it’s better than going abroad, no passport control and delays. Been visiting Newquay on and off since I was a little girl, and still finding something new to do every time. Our favourite place.

Beautifully appointed apartment, fabulous location. Very welcome complimentary cream tea and milk on arrival. This was our second visit to Spindrift View and we would happily return year after year.

What a fantastic apartment! The views of Fistral are amazing

Fantastic stay, really clean on arrival and exactly as advertised. Knockout views that cannot be beaten, nothing better than enjoying your morning coffee overlooking the beach! Would absolutely recommend.

Lovely location with a lovely view and excellent property.

Beautiful bijoux apartment, very well appointed and with wonderful sea view vistas, in a very friendly and welcoming community.

Spindrift View is small but beautifully formed. In fregards act the rooms were larger than I expected from the photographs. The decor is real coastal chic and so comfortable with everything you need for a holiday. I do feel faster broadband is necessary. At best we got 4.8 ??. Also a good Smart TV would be a great asset. Especially when the weather is dreadful. Spindrift is close to the super Lewinnick Lodge. Fab food so don’t miss the pleasure of a visit but book well ahead. Also the Fistral Beach Hotel in fron of the apartment. Great restraint. Sadly Spindrift didn’t work for us but please read on…I have a mobility problem and was assured that access would not be a problem. It was. If parking on the upper car park there are a lot of steps. From the lower car park its quite a walk to Spindrift if you have a problem. I couldn’t use my very small mobility scooter because there were three steps or a grass slope. Grass not good when wet. However, if you have no problems go for it. Spindrift is lovely. We decided to make the most of it and would enjoy our week despite some problems and we did enjoy the week. It was lovely to sit on the sofa each morning with a cup of coffee watching the surfers on Fistral Beach. We did take our own Nespresso machine. I wouldn’t expect one to be provided. Finally thanks to Jason and family and Pepper the dog for the welcome and providing such a lovely holiday nest. It’s beautiful.

Reply from Aspects Holidays

Thank you for your comments. When you are staying in the properties, you get to experience them in a different way than we do on our quick visits, so feedback from guests is always helpful. Whilst Wi-Fi is provided, the speed can never be guaranteed and unfortunately Cornwall is not known for great Wi-Fi and mobile signal, so it may be more limited than what you are used to. We hope that it still worked well enough for you though. We will make sure that your suggestion of a smart TV is passed on to the owners. We know that this is something that many people are used to having at home these days, so we are certain that it would be appreciated by many. Finally, we would like to apologise if you had spoken to a member of the team for advice on the suitability of this property, given your limited mobility. We have a very knowledgeable locally based team, who know the properties well, so I can only imagine that there had been a misunderstanding here of what the requirements were. I have tried to investigate this further, so that we can avoid something like this happening in future but assume that you had discussed it over the phone, as we have no written record of the conversation. We are genuinely very sorry, as we would always want to make sure that properties meet guests needs and expectations and advising guests on the suitability of a property is a big part of what we are here for. It sounds like you still had a great time here despite this, and made the most of it, but we appreciate that it could have been a lot better with the right information/advice. Thank you for bringing this to our attention and hopefully we will have the opportunity to welcome you back to a property that we market in future and restore your faith in the service that we offer. Tanya, Customer Services

Nice apartment in a great location. We hardly used the car as were able to walk everywhere and explore the area. The view of Fistral beach from the sofa was amazing! Dog friendly although there isn’t a private enclosed area so you need to keep an eye on them/keep them on a lead, and there is a cat that lives close by, so need to be aware of that! We would stay here again and the service from Aspects was good - reminders about payments and arrival email sent in plenty of time.

Our stay at Spindrift View was even better than expected. The apartment is so clean and well equipped. The view of Fistral Beach is amazing. The location is excellent and is within easy reach of the beach (about 5 minute walk) and the town (about 10/15 minute walk). We would not hesitate to return to this beautiful accommodation.

Love the apartment and walking across the beach to have lunch at Rick Steins restaurant.

This is the second time we’ve stayed at Spindrift and it’s the perfect spot. You can sit on the sofa and see fistral beach and it only takes two minutes to walk down to it. There is always space in the car park and the apartment has everything you need. We’ll be back for a third time!

When we arrived, from the outside it was "Oh, ok!" but once inside it was "WOW, OK" :0) Narrow and long, good sized rooms, lovely decor and a good sea view, 5 mins walk to the beach or headland. Couldn't fault it, perfect for 2 people and a dog.

Excellent apartment, great location and very well equipped. This was our second visit and will be returning again.

Had a great week here at spindrift loved the views, easy access to beach and the lovely cosy and clean apartment didn't want to leave.

Had a great winter stay at Spindrift. Very well equipped and excellent access to Pentire headland for the dog....and further afield across the Gannel to Crantock etc. Brilliant for watching the surfers on Fistral (even provided binoculars) Parking is also good

Wonderful stay! Absolutely gorgeous apartment with everything you need. Its in a fantastic location, really close to the town and you have a great view of Fistral Beach. Genuinely wonderful stay and we will definitely be back next year!

Had an absolutely brilliant week in Spindrift View. Waking up each morning and looking down onto Fistral beach is something we will remember for a long time. The welcome tray with scones and jam was a very nice touch. Apartment was short of nothing, even binoculars!! Great location only used the car once and that was to drive to Perranporth. We would recommend this apartment without reservation.

We had a really fantastic stay at Spindrift View. Well equipped, very clean, great location with beach restaurants and shops nearby, stunning views, always free parking space, very dog friendly

Our second visit to Spindrift View, and we enjoyed it even more than the first visit - thanks in part to fabulous weather allowing us to enjoy the amazing views even more! The accommodation is in a fantastic location, with a variety of restaurants and bars within walking distance. It's comfortable, clean and parking is a breeze. All for a fantastic price. We've stayed in Cornwall seven times now in a variety of locations, but this is our firm favourite.

Very comfortable apartment with outstanding views.

Nice place to stop. Easy access to Newquay and Fistral Beach. Apartment well appointed and very clean. Aspects always good and helpful, and always at the end of a phone if you are stuck. Well done Aspects

We had an excellent stay at Spindrift Cottage. It was kitted out with everything you could need. Location for the beach was perfect only 5 mins walk and the beach is dog friendly all year round. Would highly recommend and we will definitely be back.
