Holidays in Newquay

Holidays in Newquay are all about stunning scenery, beaches, and, of course, waves. As it’s the surf capital of the UK, you’ll find an abundance of surf shops and schools allowing you to immerse yourself in the surfing culture from the moment you arrive, whether you just want to watch or get stuck in.

However, if surfing isn’t for you, there are plenty of ways to fill the days while staying in the stunning beachside town of Newquay. Head to one of the many beaches for a family day on the sand - picture rock pooling, picnics, and sandy toes! Or, if you fancy a bit of retail therapy, the bustling town has a selection of independent shops selling an array of goods including clothes, artwork, and delightful handmade treats – not to mention a mouth-watering selection of cafés, bars, and restaurants for a mid-shopping or post-beach refuel.

Newquay also has a selection of attractions and events, perfect for the kids (and big kids) from a wild and wonderful zoo to a round of golf by the sea. There are also some great walks in the area thanks to the beautiful South West Coast Path, perfect for a dog-friendly Cornish getaway.

Did you know...

Newquay has nine sandy beaches to choose from!

Beaches in Newquay

When staying at a holiday cottage in Newquay, you won’t be short of aquatic adventures, with lots of sandy beaches on your doorstep. All of Newquay’s beaches are lifeguarded in the summer, providing a safe place to spend the day soaking up the sun.

Fistral beach – What do you call the best beach for surfing in the UK? Fistral! With the most consistent surfing in the country and great swathes of golden sand, there’s little doubt as to why surfers flock here from all over the place. You’ll find a surf school and wetsuit hire for those wanting to travel light and it’s dog friendly all year round for those travelling with furry companions.

Watergate Bay – Second on Newquay’s surfing scoreboard, Watergate Bay offers a seriously spacious alternative to Fistral whether you fancy a surf, a stroll or a hot chocolate in the beachside café.

Crantock beach – If you prefer a quieter beach backed by sand dunes then Crantock beach won’t disappoint. Dog-friendly and perfectly sheltered on the southern end, this sandy haven is popular with families and anyone looking for a place to doze in the sand.

Newquay Towan – Right in the centre of the town, Newquay Towan is great for quick dips and sandy escapes while you explore the surrounding shops, attractions, and perhaps even a bar or two!

Great Western, Porth, Whipsiderry, Tolcarne, Lusty Glaze, and Mawgan Porth are also fantastic beaches in Newquay. Read all about them in our extended guide and discover your favourite!

Things to do in Newquay

With quick access to the rugged north Cornish coast and some fun-fuelled attractions and activities, there are lots of great things to do in Newquay.

Surfing & Watersports

Whether you’re a first-timer or a seasoned pro, the beaches of Newquay offer something for every ability, weather forecast, and tide. And it’s not just surfing on offer either. Bring your own seafaring devices or hire kayaks and paddleboards from one of the many rental shops around.

Attractions

With such an abundance of attractions in and around Newquay, it’s the perfect place for a family holiday at any time of year. Newquay Zoo offers a great day out, as do the nearby Screech Owl Sanctuary and the Blue Reef Aquarium. For those who love to explore the heritage of a town, Trerice Manor House offers a beautiful walk through history.

If you fancy something a bit different, fishing trips and sea safaris are available, from which you can take in the scenery from a different angle. You may even be lucky enough to catch a sight of seals and dolphins!

Newquay Golf Club overlooks Fistral beach and is regarded as one of the best golf courses in the county, providing a different challenge every day depending on the weather, all with incredible sea views.

Shopping

From beach supplies to holiday mementoes, Newquay’s streets are lined with lots of interesting shops from big names to independent favourites. Unsurprisingly, there are plenty of surf shops where you can fill up your beachy wardrobe including Married to the Sea, Boardwalk Surf Shop, Watershed, and Ann’s Cottage – some even have surfboards too so you can really kit yourself out. Razzmatazz is an eclectic mix of fun, holiday take-homes and Lucky Go Happy provides a lovely selection of ethical bits and bobs for the whole family.

If you’ve got a sweet tooth, a trip to Roly’s Fudge Pantry or Cornish Cream will see it satisfied as you’ll find a fantastic array of Cornish chocolates, fudge, and even Cornish cream tea hampers (which make for the ultimate beachside picnic).

Walks

With the north Cornish coast right on your doorstep, it will come as little surprise that Newquay is jam-packed with incredible walks. Walk around Park Head (which you might recognise from Poldark) and Pentire Steps for some stunning coastal views or trudge along to Lappa Valley where you can swap the rippling blue of the sea for the dappled shade of the woods. You’ll also find a lovely area around the Porth Reservoir and surrounding wildlife reserve, giving wildlife watchers plenty of opportunities to whip the binoculars out.

Dining out

Newquay's vibrant foodie scene has grown and grown over the years, with the town now offering something for every taste and occasion. If you want to eat out, you’ll find a huge selection of eateries, including many beach cafés and restaurants serving up locally caught seafood with incredible sea views. Or, if you fancy something special after a day surfing the waves, check out the many fantastic fine dining options or cocktail bars for a relaxing drink.

If you want to stay in and make the most of your lovely home from home, there are some excellent farmshops and delis in the area, including the welcoming Trevilley Farm for all your locally-produced needs or Malcolm Barnecutt Bakery for some seriously moreish fresh bakes.

Dog-friendly Newquay

If you want to bring your four-legged friend with you on your Cornish holiday, you couldn’t pick a better spot than Newquay where you’ll find plenty of great dog walks.

Dog-friendly beaches

Fistral beach – Surf, sea, and sandy paws, it’s all waiting for you at Fistral beach 365 days a year.

Watergate Bay – With miles of sand and lots of rockpools and caves to sniff out at low tide, this dog-friendly beach is a favourite with dogs and humans alike.

Whipsiderry beach – Considered a hidden gem by many, dogs are welcome throughout the year on Whipsiderry so why not take a dog-nap in the sand before checking out those rock formations!

Mawgan Porth beach – with Bedruthan Steps a short walk away and lots of sand for zoomies, the beach at Mawgan Porth is great for tuckering out the pooch (and the kids).

You can also see these beaches from the water, as many of the boat trips in the area welcome seadogs aboard!

Dog-friendly pubs and restaurants

When it comes to dinner time, there are plenty of dog-friendly pubs, restaurants and cafés where the whole pack can shake the day off and refuel.

Lewinnick Lodge – Perfectly placed up on the cliffs on the Pentire Headland, Lewinnick Lodge offers sea views with your meal, whether it’s breakfast, lunch or evening drinks with the pooch by your side.

Lakeside Café – Another dreamy spot for a bite to eat, Lakeside Café not only provides delicious treats for its human guests but for its doggie guests too – homemade dog ice cream should get those tails wagging!

The Old Albion Inn – 400 years old with no signs of slowing down, The Old Albion has truly perfected its welcoming atmosphere. Enjoy the thatched roof as you enter and the fully-stocked bar when you’re inside.

Hitting the cliffs in June, Cornwall’s inaugural Street Food Festival brings cuisines from all over the world together as people celebrate great food and great views.

Boardmasters

This surf and music festival seems to get bigger every year as thousands descend on Newquay's Fistral Beach and Watergate Bay to watch surf competitions and live music while sampling all that Newquay has to offer.

Newquay Beer Festival

Great location the penthouse was exactly as described with fantastic views. Really comfortable and felt at home. Had a great time and the penthouse made our week.

A very nice apartment, a good walk from the town. Great views over Fistral Beach at the back and over to Crantock at the front. If you like being further from the town then this is great as it is quieter.

Excellent apartment, very spacious and modern, the hot tub over looking Fistral beach was amazing definitely a plus for the apartment . Amazing views from both balconies, the views over the beach are beautiful. Lovely welcome pack with local produce and items to get your holiday started. Two good sized parking spaces We will definitely be returning

This was our second time at the Penthouse and it will defintely not be the last. Such a wonderful view, incredibly comfortable, and excellent location, a beautiful 15 min walk into Newquay. The hot tub is the icing on the cake. Our children love it here and we will be back. A truly wonderful place to stay.

Location, location, location - just perfect - with different aspect views from each balcony. The town of Newquay has shops, bars and cafes within walking distance. You can hire Beryl Bikes from closeby which are handy for getting you to the town, zoo, mini golf etc if you don't want to drive or walk.

We were a family of 6 adults ( 3 couples). The property was fantastic, with a great hot tub on the balcony overlooking fistral beach.

We stayed at Saltwater Penthouse for a weeks break as a family of four . The location is brilliant, views are spectacular and the property is excellent value for money. Very spacious, well equipped and the hot tub is a bonus. We would definitely stay again!

Excellent property , excellent service …. Already looking forward to our 3rd stay in 2025!

Beautiful apartment in a stunning location just expect a fair walk into town or short drive .

Reply from Aspects Holidays

Thank you for your comments, we are so pleased to hear you enjoyed Saltwater Penthouse's fabulous location. The property is perched on the Pentire headland just outside of Newquay, so as you rightly said, requires a walk into the hustle and bustle of the town. If you do walk though, I am sure you will agree that the scenery along the way certainly makes it worthwhile! Lucy, Customer Services

The Saltwater Penthouse is a lovely spacious flat with stunning views from two large balconies. The whole flat is attractively furnished and the beds and bedding really comfortable. Big plus to have two good sized parking places. Great place for a family holiday plus dog.

A great apartment with lots of space. We all enjoyed the open plan living area as well being able to have our space in the lovely bedrooms with plenty of bathrooms. The hot tub was great to use even in November .

Excellent location, beautiful penthouse with plenty of room for six people the views from the balcony was amazing. We will definitely be coming back

We have just enjoyed a fantastic week at Saltwater Penthouse. The location worked well and the views were stunning. The apartment is spacious and well equipped and the welcome pack greatly enjoyed. Aspects Holidays remain our choice for booking of our holidays to Cornwall and we thoroughly recommend both them and this apartment.

Saltwater ticks so many boxes for our family! An incredibly spacious, well thought out space with plenty of room and storage. Obviously the view is incredible ( on both sides of the building) but it’s possible to sit out in almost any weather ( rain is best viewed from the hot tub, but there is shelter and sun and some shade too). Access to Fistral beach is excellent and access to Crantock beach is a bit more challenging but do try it at low tide!
The peninsula is very quite compared to the general Newquay area but it’s all in the doorstep if you need it.
Sainsburys deliver there too. What’s not to love?!

Saltwater Penthouse doesn’t disappoint, views over Newquay and the wonderful Fistral Beach, you lose hours just sitting in the hot-tub gazing at the mesmerising view. Apartment is smart, decorated well and comfortable for all ages to enjoy. Everything you need for a wonderful stay in Cornwall.

The apartment was wonderful. Very modern. Our teens loved it too. Views are excellent. Clean and tidy.

Aspect Holidays were excellent to deal with.

We couldnt find a hairdryer in the property. We phoned Aspect up and within no time, one appeared. A few days later, my son found it in his ensuite drawer. We owned up to our mistake. Oops.

Weather was perfect too.

Paula and Tony Walker

The Saltwater Penthouse is gorgeous with fantastic views over Fistral Beach , attractively decorated good sized rooms and well furnished balconies with a lovely warm jacuzzi. Very comfortable beds and bedding. Two parking spaces a big bonus! The generous welcome pack was a lovely surprise and we all enjoyed our cream tea when we had unpacked. Certainly a place worth revisiting.

Lovely stay, amazing views and great apartment. Friendly staff and quick to respond when we needed them.

A spacious apartment in a lovely location overlooking Fistral beach. It's a quick drive into Newquay and there are many places nearby to visit. We enjoyed the generous welcome pack. The space is well equipped and comfortable for families and group of friends and we had fun on our short girls holiday. There are lovely comfortable beds with quality linen and the kitchen is well equipped if you decide to have a night in or prepare a quick breakfast.

I was extremely satisfied with the penthouse apartment. Everything was as described and the spectacular views on each balcony were just breathtaking. We were greeted with a generous welcome pack which was real lovely. The property was very clean and the beds very comfortable. We absolutely loved the showers too. There was an issue with the main bathroom and it was out of use but the owners were fair and gave us a 10% refund off the stay for the inconvenience to the guests staying. The agency we booked with aspect holidays were extremely helpful and friendly and quickly dealt with any minor issues that arose. Would most definitely return in the future and have already recommended this place to my family snd friends to stay in the future

Saltwater penthouse is at a great location looking over fistral beach which lets you watch the surfers all day. The weather was hit and miss during our stay but with such a lovely apartment it was hard to live and head out anyway.

Excellent week in Cornwall, Saltwater penthouse was lovely, the views were amazing. Plenty of room and very dog friendly, we took our dogs bed but she liked the one supplied and swapped between the two. Very generous welcome pack which was a lovely touch. Would recommend for a lovely holiday.

The view from Saltwater Penthouse is breathtaking and catapults you into a deeply relaxing holiday from the moment that you arrive. The morning sun on the other terrace is glorious and the sunsets are sunrises can both be enjoyed. The spacious interior gives you plenty of room to relax if the weather isn't great. The location is excellent as it's very quiet most of the time. You can see how busy the beach is before you pop down and if you want to leave the area by car, you are rarely caught in traffic. I snapped up the only week remaining this Summer but we could easily have stayed for two or more.

Lovely family stay at the Saltwater penthouse, hot tub was a great extra. Nice location to be a-bit out of the main town. Lovely beaches near by, amazing views. Definitely would stay again

10/10, Absolutely outstanding! Saltwater Penthouse is quite literally out of this world. Waking up every morning and looking over Fistral Beach really sets you up for the day! The Penthouse has everything you need and more to ensure you have a great holiday. A 20 minute walk one way gets you in to the town centre and 5 minutes the other way gets you to the stunning views of Pentire Headland. I wouldn't hesitate to recommend Saltwater Penthouse or Aspect Holidays to any of my friends or family. Hopefully see you again next year!

As a party of 6 adults we had a fantastic weeks holiday in this stunning apartment. The views from the front and the back of the property were lovely and we happily explored the local area by foot, enjoying the two local beaches and walking the headland. The hot tub was an additional perk and was used daily! The bedrooms and living space were comfortable and the kitchen had everything we needed. We would happily return.

Such a lovely comfortable penthouse with stunning views. Bit far out from the town centre but there is a bus stop just outside. Would definitely return.

The stay was better than we expected. There was 8 of us going to the apartment. At first I was quite sceptical of how the hotel would look in real life as I found it on Facebook. However, as we first entered it was beyond our expectations, and we all as a group truely enjoyed our stay. I recieved all the information, and the booking was easy to fill out. The views are amazing. Better than the ones on the pictures. We had the sea 5 min away which was amazing, along with suggestedplaces we could visit that aspect holidays sent us. We all wished we could stay longer as we fell in love in the place and we are already looking to book our holidays there again next year :) Don't hesitate about not going, the price is fully worth the stay, even if its just for a long weekend.

Fantastic apartment !!! Excellent space, fittings, beautiful bathrooms and views of fistral beach All facilities provided accessible for those with poor mobility/ walking aids. Fantastic views of beach and Newquay Hot tub was great and overall would recommend to anyone to stay here. Also mgt staff really lovely and helpful.

Absolutely gorgeous apartment, beautifully furnished with amazing views from both balconies. Hot tub was wonderful. We had a great week and would definitely love to stay here again.

The Penthouse apartment is very comfortable, spacious and well equipped to a high standard. We went in October and still used the hot tub every day. Though not centrally located for the beach it is only a 10-20 min walk to Fistral Beach depending on the tide. We would highly recommend this luxury apartment.

Fantastic luxury penthouse with lots of added extras, views from both balconies are amazing, 10 minute walk to Fistral beach and just a few more minutes to Newquay town centre, we would highly recommend this Penthouse and Aspects holidays

We had a fantastic holiday here . You’ll want to stay in this place for longer than a week or two to enjoy everything it has to offer. We would definitely look to book again (but don’t tell everyone)!

We loved our stay at Saltwater Penthouse. The location is perfect and the views from the balcony are stunning. The hot tub was an added bonus and made our holiday even more special. Being able to sit in the hot tub and look out to Fistral beach was amazing. The penthouse itself had all the facilities we needed and was very well equipped. The beds were very comfortable and the rooms spacious enough with good storage. We found the whole booking process and arriving at the property/getting the keys etc so easy and would definitely recommend Aspects Holidays. We hope to be back at the Penthouse soon!

Fabulous views from both sides of the penthouse one of the entire length of Fistral beach and the other for miles over Crantock and south over countryside. Very stylish furnishings and a lounge that comfortably seats 8 people. Watch the surfers from your own hot tub. A one mile walk into town.

Saltwater Penthouse completely exceeded our expectations... upon arrival, everything about the apartment took our breath away; from the stunning views from both balconies, to the beautiful, tasteful decor, to the high quality soft furnishings; and the high tech gadgets. We had to keep pinching ourselves to make sure it was real! Every effort had been made to ensure that the property was fully equipped, comfortable, immensely clean and just perfect in every way. We looked forward to coming in from the beach just as much as we looked forward to going out. We have rebooked for next year and can’t wait to return!!! Thank you so much.
