Holidays in Newquay

Holidays in Newquay are all about stunning scenery, beaches, and, of course, waves. As it’s the surf capital of the UK, you’ll find an abundance of surf shops and schools allowing you to immerse yourself in the surfing culture from the moment you arrive, whether you just want to watch or get stuck in.

However, if surfing isn’t for you, there are plenty of ways to fill the days while staying in the stunning beachside town of Newquay. Head to one of the many beaches for a family day on the sand - picture rock pooling, picnics, and sandy toes! Or, if you fancy a bit of retail therapy, the bustling town has a selection of independent shops selling an array of goods including clothes, artwork, and delightful handmade treats – not to mention a mouth-watering selection of cafés, bars, and restaurants for a mid-shopping or post-beach refuel.

Newquay also has a selection of attractions and events, perfect for the kids (and big kids) from a wild and wonderful zoo to a round of golf by the sea. There are also some great walks in the area thanks to the beautiful South West Coast Path, perfect for a dog-friendly Cornish getaway.

Did you know...

Newquay has nine sandy beaches to choose from!

Beaches in Newquay

When staying at a holiday cottage in Newquay, you won’t be short of aquatic adventures, with lots of sandy beaches on your doorstep. All of Newquay’s beaches are lifeguarded in the summer, providing a safe place to spend the day soaking up the sun.

Fistral beach – What do you call the best beach for surfing in the UK? Fistral! With the most consistent surfing in the country and great swathes of golden sand, there’s little doubt as to why surfers flock here from all over the place. You’ll find a surf school and wetsuit hire for those wanting to travel light and it’s dog friendly all year round for those travelling with furry companions.

Watergate Bay – Second on Newquay’s surfing scoreboard, Watergate Bay offers a seriously spacious alternative to Fistral whether you fancy a surf, a stroll or a hot chocolate in the beachside café.

Crantock beach – If you prefer a quieter beach backed by sand dunes then Crantock beach won’t disappoint. Dog-friendly and perfectly sheltered on the southern end, this sandy haven is popular with families and anyone looking for a place to doze in the sand.

Newquay Towan – Right in the centre of the town, Newquay Towan is great for quick dips and sandy escapes while you explore the surrounding shops, attractions, and perhaps even a bar or two!

Great Western, Porth, Whipsiderry, Tolcarne, Lusty Glaze, and Mawgan Porth are also fantastic beaches in Newquay. Read all about them in our extended guide and discover your favourite!

Things to do in Newquay

With quick access to the rugged north Cornish coast and some fun-fuelled attractions and activities, there are lots of great things to do in Newquay.

Surfing & Watersports

Whether you’re a first-timer or a seasoned pro, the beaches of Newquay offer something for every ability, weather forecast, and tide. And it’s not just surfing on offer either. Bring your own seafaring devices or hire kayaks and paddleboards from one of the many rental shops around.

Attractions

With such an abundance of attractions in and around Newquay, it’s the perfect place for a family holiday at any time of year. Newquay Zoo offers a great day out, as do the nearby Screech Owl Sanctuary and the Blue Reef Aquarium. For those who love animals and theme park rides, Dairyland Farm Park is the place to be while Trerice Manor House offers a beautiful walk through history.

If you fancy something a bit different, fishing trips and sea safaris are available, from which you can take in the scenery from a different angle. You may even be lucky enough to catch a sight of seals and dolphins!

Newquay Golf Club overlooks Fistral beach and is regarded as one of the best golf courses in the county, providing a different challenge every day depending on the weather, all with incredible sea views.

Shopping

From beach supplies to holiday mementoes, Newquay’s streets are lined with lots of interesting shops from big names to independent favourites. Unsurprisingly, there are plenty of surf shops where you can fill up your beachy wardrobe including Married to the Sea, Boardwalk Surf Shop, Watershed, and Ann’s Cottage – some even have surfboards too so you can really kit yourself out. Razzmatazz is an eclectic mix of fun, holiday take-homes and Lucky Go Happy provides a lovely selection of ethical bits and bobs for the whole family.

If you’ve got a sweet tooth, a trip to Roly’s Fudge Pantry or Cornish Cream will see it satisfied as you’ll find a fantastic array of Cornish chocolates, fudge, and even Cornish cream tea hampers (which make for the ultimate beachside picnic).

Walks

With the north Cornish coast right on your doorstep, it will come as little surprise that Newquay is jam-packed with incredible walks. Walk around Park Head (which you might recognise from Poldark) and Pentire Steps for some stunning coastal views or trudge along to Lappa Valley where you can swap the rippling blue of the sea for the dappled shade of the woods. You’ll also find a lovely area around the Porth Reservoir and surrounding wildlife reserve, giving wildlife watchers plenty of opportunities to whip the binoculars out.

Dining out

Newquay's vibrant foodie scene has grown and grown over the years, with the town now offering something for every taste and occasion. If you want to eat out, you’ll find a huge selection of eateries, including many beach cafés and restaurants serving up locally caught seafood with incredible sea views. Or, if you fancy something special after a day surfing the waves, check out the many fantastic fine dining options or cocktail bars for a relaxing drink.

If you want to stay in and make the most of your lovely home from home, there are some excellent farmshops and delis in the area, including the welcoming Trevilley Farm for all your locally-produced needs or Malcolm Barnecutt Bakery for some seriously moreish fresh bakes.

Dog-friendly Newquay

If you want to bring your four-legged friend with you on your Cornish holiday, you couldn’t pick a better spot than Newquay where you’ll find plenty of great dog walks.

Dog-friendly beaches

Fistral beach – Surf, sea, and sandy paws, it’s all waiting for you at Fistral beach 365 days a year.

Watergate Bay – With miles of sand and lots of rockpools and caves to sniff out at low tide, this dog-friendly beach is a favourite with dogs and humans alike.

Whipsiderry beach – Considered a hidden gem by many, dogs are welcome throughout the year on Whipsiderry so why not take a dog-nap in the sand before checking out those rock formations!

Mawgan Porth beach – with Bedruthan Steps a short walk away and lots of sand for zoomies, the beach at Mawgan Porth is great for tuckering out the pooch (and the kids).

You can also see these beaches from the water, as many of the boat trips in the area welcome seadogs aboard!

Dog-friendly pubs and restaurants

When it comes to dinner time, there are plenty of dog-friendly pubs, restaurants and cafés where the whole pack can shake the day off and refuel.

Lewinnick Lodge – Perfectly placed up on the cliffs on the Pentire Headland, Lewinnick Lodge offers sea views with your meal, whether it’s breakfast, lunch or evening drinks with the pooch by your side.

Lakeside Café – Another dreamy spot for a bite to eat, Lakeside Café not only provides delicious treats for its human guests but for its doggie guests too – homemade dog ice cream should get those tails wagging!

The Old Albion Inn – 400 years old with no signs of slowing down, The Old Albion has truly perfected its welcoming atmosphere. Enjoy the thatched roof as you enter and the fully-stocked bar when you’re inside.

What's on in Newquay

Whether you love music and surfing, beer or food, there’s a festival in Newquay for you…

Hitting the cliffs in June, Cornwall’s inaugural Street Food Festival brings cuisines from all over the world together as people celebrate great food and great views.

Boardmasters

This surf and music festival seems to get bigger every year as thousands descend on Newquay's Fistral Beach and Watergate Bay to watch surf competitions and live music while sampling all that Newquay has to offer.

Newquay Beer Festival

Sample over 50 ales and enjoy live music as you make the most of Newquay’s one and only beer festival, which takes over Hendra Holiday Park every September.

What our guests say...

We know how important honest reviews are when it comes to booking your holiday. Beautiful apartment and the views are breathtaking...... we will definitely return for the 4th time round!! Hopefully the lift will be in working order too ??

Thank you very much for your review. It was great to see after many trips here, you're still loving the apartment and the amazing views it has to offer. We are so sorry that the lift was out of action for you during this stay, as we know how helpful it can be for moving luggage to and from the property. Being that the lift is the responsibility of the management company, we can never guarantee that it is a facility that is going to be available to guests, but can happily report since the maintenance was done it has been in working order. Looking forward to welcoming you back again. Ben, Customer Services.

Excellent apartment with amazing views.

View out the front is the apartments best asset. Who needs to turn the tv on with a view like that. Well equipped kitchen and nicely furnished. Car park is tight so definitely back into your space. Some minor issues dealt with quickly by aspects. Would like to have seen more generous welcome pack. It was really lacking compared to the norm as was only one pint of milk some tea bags coff. Just adding some scones cream jam or cake would have been good touch. It’s the little touches that take the apartment from very good to excellent.

Thank you for your review of 6 Fistral Beach, those views are pretty stunning whatever the weather! As you have mentioned, the parking space for the property can be quite tight, but we do advertise it as suitable for an average-sized car (eg, VW Golf). We just ask that guests remain mindful when opening their car doors, to avoid damaging any neighbouring vehicles. It's a shame to hear that you were disappointed with the welcome pack left for you - it is standard for these to contain tea, coffee, milk and sugar. Some owners choose to provide little extras for your enjoyment too, but these can vary from property to property and are not guaranteed. However, your feedback has been passed along to the owners for them to take into consideration for future guests so thank you for sharing your thoughts. Katy, Customer Services.

Fantastic apartment, spacious and well equipped with a superb view. We had a wonderful week in July, lots to do in the area and only 15-20 mins walk into the centre of Newquay.

A great apartment that we regularly stay in, well equipped in a perfect location with cracking views of Fistral bay.

So good we have booked again for later this year

A wonderful clean and tidy apartment in a superb location with excellent facilities. Easy access to the beach, cliff walks and Newquay town. Views of the beach are superb, always something to look at. Fistral beach has lovely places to eat and drink within a 15 minute walk across the beach or using the cliff path. A really relaxing place to stay. We hope to return!

Park you car up, hang the keys up and enjoy everything in this lovely area, oh...I nearly forgot, the view is...spectacular. If I had to describe 6 Fistral Beach in one word - WOW!

Views excellent, apartment excellent, you will not be disappointed.

The apartment was lovely and clean, a welcome sight after a long journey. The views are spectacular and you never get bored of looking at it. The waves can be heard only when the windows are open, so really peaceful. A well stocked apartment with everything you need for your stay. Wi-Fi really good. A short, pleasant walk (about 10-15 minutes) into Newquay to shops. Sainsburys, Aldi, Asda and Tesco express are in Newquay. The beach (brilliant for body boarding) a stroll away ?? Good base to go sight seeing by car (although when we were there you could get unlimited bus travel for £20 for the week, not sure if that’s a long term thing) Overall I would highly recommend this apartment.

Fabulous views and location. Well equipped with most things. There’s a dolce gusto coffee machine if you take pods for it. The size of the parking space wasn’t a issue at all.

Breathtaking views across a lovely sandy beach. Quite location, 15 minute walk in to town and 2 minute walk to beach. Very comfortable and well equipped apartment. Thank you for a lovely stay..

This is our second stay at 6 Fistral beach apartments. We had another lovely week exploring the nearby activities and enjoying the easily accessible beach location. Will never tire of the view first thing on a morning and sound of the waves last thing at night.

Have stayed at 6 Fistral many times over the last 12 years, it's great and will continue to return

Lovely, comfortable flat with amazing views.

Amazing apartment with very high end equipment and furnishings, and a view to die for. We had lovely autumn weather so sea was flat calm - would love to be there again to see it in a storm. Accessible - yes - but really needs more aids etc to be truly so. Hard work to negotiate wheelchair through the heavy (fire) doors to and from car park. Also would benefit from a higher type armchair. My husband got stuck on the low sofa and I had to get help to get him standing up. That said, it wouldn't put us off going there again, but we would need to be more prepared for the lack of aids which we have the benefit of at home.

It certainly sounds like you had a lovely time at 6 Fistral Beach Apartment; it is a lovely place, isn't it? We are sorry if there was any confusion over the accessibility. It doesn't look like we got the chance to speak to you before you had booked the property, but properties listed as accessible on our website can vary from fully wheelchair accessible to ones that are all on 1 level but may still have a small step into them and not specifically designed for wheelchair use but are suitable for those who may struggle with a lot of steps. We always advise speaking to our very knowledgeable team before booking, so that we can advise on the suitability of a property and let you know exactly what is provided there. We are glad that it still worked well for you though and we hope to see you back here again soon. Tanya, Customer Services

View exceptional! Location perfect.

Great location and wonderful views! Very good sized rooms and felt like a home from home. We didn't use the kitchen much but looked to be very well equipped. We'd be more than happy to stay again!

We have been coming back here since our first visit in 2018 and we’ve been 5 times already and booked for next year. We love this apartment it feels like our second home. Very comfortable and clean with the best view ever, looking straight over Fistral Beach. Plenty of walks close by with beautiful coastal views and lots of beaches to explore. Ideal for our hobbies-body boarding, bird watching, relaxing. Never fails to impress.

Simply beautiful place. Calming and delightful. Hopefully we'll be able to return and some point. Really enjoyed our time here

The apartment was exceptionally clean and fresh when we arrived but the view overtook everything it was absolutely amazing we can't wait to book again for next year

Patel family

Gorgeous apartment & very stylish. Bed comfortable & bathrooms top quality. Lovely to sit on the sofas admiring the view with the double doors open. About a 20 minute walk to town, recommended route take path above the beach & turn right through middle of the golf course.

Large spacious and well equipped apartment with possibly the best view of anywhere we have stayed. Arrived to find everywhere spotlessly clean.

Would point out that there is a 20 minute uphill walk into town but there is an excellent view of the sea and the golf course to distract. There is no convenience store within a few minutes of Esplanade Rd.

The location of this property is fabulous- uninterrupted views of Fistral Beach, which is stunning in sunshine or storms. We found the apartment to be spotlessly clean, comfortable and very well equipped with plenty of crockery, glasses etc. And a welcome pack of essentials. Walking, jogging, surfing, golfing etc etc all mere minutes away from the door. Newquay itself is a short scenic walk away.

This apartment is absolutely stunning. The views are spectacular and easily accessible for less mobile people (we took my 96 year old Mum) It is furnished very comfortably and is spotless. Visited in November and the apartment was lovely, cosy and warm. There is nothing i could fault about this holiday except that it all went by too quickly. Will definitely be returning. Thank you to all involved in the organisation of this.

What a delightful appartment , perfect for a short break! Loved linwick Lodge , a short stroll away , especially the rhubarb and vanilla Gin ! Well done Aspects - another lovely booking with you , we will be back soon we hope x

Therapeutic & tranquil! A must visit ??

This apartment is amazing, the view most of all is brilliant and makes it extra special. The kitchen is so well stocked -better than home !! Everywhere is very comfortable but modern and clean too. Bathrooms gorgeous . Will definitely return one day hopefully. It’s a gem of a location and we felt lucky to stay there . Car park can be tight but manageable. Book this place you will not regret it !

You will not be disappointed by this comfortable holiday apartment. It has everything you will need including an outdoor shower to clean off the sand from boards and wet suits and a locker for surf gear. It has the most amazing view overlooking Fistral Beach. It is exceptionally clean and fresh and we have been there 4 times already. We love it there.

A lovely large apartment with a spectacular view of Fistral beach. Just open the doors, sit back, relax and listen to the waves.

Great location and aspect. Who need a tv when you can watch the waves from the main living area and watch the sun setting. Great location for walking to either fistral beach or up the headland for beautiful views. Well equipped apartment

Well kept apartment with wonderful views from the lounge windows. Good location for access to Fistral Beach. Try the coffee and cakes at the Sea Spray cafe on the rocks at the beach.

It’s so good we’ve stayed here on 3 occasions and also recommended to my parents who booked it also. Great facilities and location.

If you want a getaway that truly captures a relaxing, tranquil place, you need to visit here. A recent two week stay felt like a month! Incredible place, clean, lots of amenities. Far enough out of Newquay for no noise, close enough to walk. Can’t wait to go again ??

Had an amazing stay at 6Fistral. The location is stunning, great to just sit and watch the world go by or venture onto the beach within a few minutes. The apartment is very well equipped with everything you could possibly need and lots of information of things to do and places of interest. Would highly recommend.

Stayed here before and will return

Everything about our holiday from booking with Aspects Holiday to the information available on arrival along with the excellent cleanliness of the apartment with its unrivalled views of Fistral Beach was awesome. The service we received was excellent and we highly recommend Aspect Holidays and Fistral Beach Apartments.

Would definatley recommend aspect holidays, the service we recieved was very professional, but also really friendly, and cant fault the apartment we stayed in,it was immaculate, and had everything we needed to make our stay really comfortable and enjoyable

Excellent service from Aspects from start to finish. The apartment was beautiful and well exceeded our expectations. The views and location outstanding.

We love this apartment which is why we have been there five times...so far! The view is amazing and it is spotless and comfortable. Don’t tell anyone!

Excellent apartment, fantastic views, so close to beach, off road parking perfect.

First class - dealt with a problem really quickly. Staff on the phone really friendly and helpful. Very impressed

Thank you for your feedback. We are sorry that there were problems with the TV during your stay, but glad that it got resolved the same day, with a new one ordered and in place. We hope that you had a great time here, and hopefully see you back soon. Tanya, Customer Services

The apartment has amazing views across Fistral beach and you can watch the surfers from the comfort of the sofa. Very quiet area but easy access to the beach, coastal walks and Newquay harbour. if it rains i am sure the views are just as amazing.

Fantastic apartment with stunning views, very comfy and homely.
