This was our third visit to The Beacon and continues to be one of our favourite places to enjoy a holiday in Falmouth. It is so close to the Town Centre with lots of interesting and unique places to shop and browse as you head into Town. Must mention the good places to eat and drink heading down the street into Town. Two great pubs a stones throw from The Beacon.
The view from The Beacon balcony is lovely and relaxing and the ships and cruise liners were a talking point and got us all on google checking them out (a bit sad really but fun). So all in all a good time had by all the family.
Once again we have booked for next year as it is a great place to be based to explore Falmouth and the surrounding areas.

Holidays in Falmouth

Holidays in Falmouth are made for lazy beach days, relaxed wanderings down cobbled streets, and easy access to some of Cornwall’s most fascinating historical buildings – not to mention a coastline that can easily be confused with the Med.

Situated on the coast, Falmouth benefits from four beautiful beaches, with many more nearby, including the much-loved Blue Flag beach, Gyllyngvase. The vibrant seaside town is also home to a selection of tropical gardens and a plethora of attractions to keep you entertained throughout your stay.

During your holiday in Falmouth, why not leave the car behind and experience some ‘car-free’ days out, enjoying transport links from the town by bus, rail, and even by boat! Visitors can take pleasure cruises around the Fal estuary or along the beautiful Helford River. Take the ferry to Flushing or St Mawes and experience the beautiful scenery along the way – it really is the only way to travel.

Home to the third deepest natural harbour in the world, it will be of little surprise that you can also enjoy many different water-based activities from Falmouth including sailing, sea safaris, and watersports – it really is a boater’s paradise!

Falmouth also benefits from a jam-packed events roster including music and food festivals as well as a week-long, town-wide celebration of all things Falmouth.

If you’re bringing the pooch with you, you’ll find lots of dog-friendly outings around Falmouth, as well as some fantastic eateries that welcome dogs and their well-behaved owners.

Did you know...

Pendennis Castle was built by Henry VIII to protect the Carrick Roads from invasion!

Beaches in Falmouth

If a Cornish stay isn’t complete without a beach day or two, Falmouth is a must-visit with its four beautiful beaches and stunning surrounding coastline.

Gyllyngvase beach – Perhaps Falmouth’s most popular beach, Gylly beach is home to everything you could want from a hazy day in the sand. Consistently flat waters provide the perfect conditions for SUPs while a café and restaurant on the beach offer beachgoers the chance to refresh and refuel without leaving the white gold sands behind.

Castle beach – Just down from Pendennis point you’ll find the aptly named Castle beach, which offers young and intrepid adventurers plenty of rockpools to explore, along with an underwater paradise for keen snorkelers.

Swanpool beach – More a cove than a beach, Swanpool mixes an idyllic setting with action-packed watersports for a fun-filled beach day whatever your beachy interests. There’s also a great little beachside café for those all-important ice creams.

Maenporth beach – Just on the edge of Falmouth lies another of South Cornwall’s most serene beaches. Flat waters, golden sand, and an award-winning restaurant all add up to an unmissable day amidst sand, sun, and sea in Falmouth.

Things to do in Falmouth

Whether you’re a water baby at heart or a seeker of culture and cuisine, there are plenty of things to add to your holiday itinerary when visiting Falmouth.

Art Galleries

Falmouth is home to an eclectic mix of art galleries, all featuring a wide variety of local and national work. Home to one of the leading art collections in Cornwall, Falmouth Art Gallery is the place to go for a rolling look at Cornish art through the ages or you can head to Beside the Wave for more contemporary exhibitions.

Shopping

After a shopping trip in Falmouth, you’ll want all highstreets to be lined with cobbles and decorated with colourful bunting – it really does set the scene for a vibrant day out! Falmouth’s shops themselves vary from big names like FatFace and Ann’s Cottage to more niche shops from intriguing antiques to everything Cornwall – perfect for your holiday memento. Oh, and if you have a sweet tooth, you’re going to want to check out Roly’s Fudge Pantry – it’s to die for!

History

A holiday in Falmouth wouldn’t be complete without a trip to Pendennis Castle and the National Maritime Museum – two of the town’s top cultural attractions. Both dive into the history of Falmouth and Cornwall with a definite nautical theme, with Pendennis Castle looking more at defence and the museum exploring the wider culture of life by the sea.

Boat Trips

When you get bored of hard ground beneath your feet, set sail up the Fal estuary or along to the Helford river on one of Falmouth’s many fantastic boat trips that vary from party boats to sea safaris to meals on keels (sorry, boat puns are a mandatory here).

Watersports

With South Cornwall’s microclimate and plenty of sheltered bays, the waters around Falmouth are known for being consistently calm, which makes them perfect for mastering your favourite sea-based activity. Try your hand at everything from kayaking to SUPing, swimming to sailing as you swap dry land for the thrill of the Cornish waters.

Walks

River walks, coastal strolls and countryside ambles… there’s no limit to what your feet can discover with the many breath-taking walks in and around Falmouth. Take to the South West Coast Path for unbeatable coastal views (and plenty of opportunities for a cheeky dip in the sea) or take your walk riverside for an idyllic escape to nature. Falmouth’s also home to an impressive collection of gardens, each with their own intriguing collection of paths to explore.

Princess Pavilion

This fantastic theatre complex offers a year-round program of live music, entertainment and theatrical performances. Set in the stunning Gyllyngdune Gardens, you can pop along to take in the beautiful scenery and enjoy a drink and some food in the Garden Room Café. Find out more about the pavilion and what’s on here >

Dining Out

Falmouth is quickly becoming one of Cornwall’s ultimate foodie hotspots thanks to a veritable smorgasbord of top eateries and superb pubs and bars, many with incredible sea views and welcoming dogs. Mexican, Texan, African, Cornish, Caribbean, and vegan, it doesn’t matter what kind of cuisine you fancy, Falmouth’s got it all!

Dog-friendly Falmouth

While the four main beaches in Falmouth all operate under seasonal restrictions (dogs aren’t allowed on the beaches 1st May – 30th September, 10am – 6pm), there are plenty of pup-friendly places for you and the dog to get your beach fix near Falmouth.

Dog-friendly beaches

Polgwidden Cove – Accessed through the beautiful Trebah gardens, Polgwidden is a lovely shingle cove that’s dog-friendly throughout the year. If you don’t fancy walking, you can always rent a boat and sail there as many of the boat hires in Falmouth welcome salty sea dogs!

Sunny Cove – Perhaps the closest dog-friendly beach to Falmouth, Sunny Cove provides a perfectly sheltered place for a dog nap in the sand. It’s situated between Swanpool and Maenporth just off the coast path, making it a great destination for a dog walk. It is worth noting that the cove is popular with naturists so swimming costumes are optional!

Dog-friendly pubs and restaurants

Stable Pizza – Combining pizza, cider, and harbour views, Stable in Falmouth is a popular haunt for good reason. Dogs are welcome on the ground floor as well as outside so the whole family can enjoy a meal out together.

Five Degrees West – A pub that specialises in pizza and pints, Five Degrees is always a firm favourite with those who want to dine with their pup in tow. Pop in for a quiet drink or a slap-up meal, the choice is yours!

The Boathouse – Claiming the title of ‘pub with the best sea view in Falmouth’, The Boathouse has been welcoming guests for over 300 years, which is perhaps how they’ve perfected their easy-going offering. The menu might change with the season (and the chef’s fancy), but the friendly, dog-welcoming vibes remain the same.

What's on in Falmouth

The town has a rich tradition of hosting a year-round programme of events, from sailing regattas to live music and an abundance of food and drink festivals. You don’t have to wait for specific seasons either, as Falmouth enjoys plenty of markets and live music throughout the year.

Falmouth Spring Festival

Are you ready to paint the town yellow? Every year, the Falmouth Spring Festival celebrates the start of this blooming wonderful season with a line-up of fantastic events and a tradition that sees the town’s window displays reflect the daffodils that decorate the fields around.

Falmouth Food Festival

Filling Falmouth with tempting treats from a variety of local vendors and producers, Falmouth Food Festival is the place to be for an epic feed. Spend the day filling your bags (and bellies) with the very best grub Cornwall has to offer, while sipping Cornish ales and listening to superb musicians - it's a true feast for the senses!

International Sea Shanty Festival

This internationally popular music event brings all the foot-stomping fun of sea shanties to Falmouth as thousands of people descend to share in a festival that would make any pirate proud.

Falmouth Week

Falmouth Week isn’t just a sailing regatta, it’s a ten-day-long, town-wide celebration that features every entertainment imaginable including unmissable live music, maritime marvels, and aerial displays. Lots of the town’s shops and organisations join in, adding their fun-filled activities to the jam-packed roster.

Falmouth Oyster Festival

Bringing live music, fresh food, and a bevy of activities to the streets of Falmouth, this festival has become a tradition we just can’t do without. Celebrity chefs provide demos so you can recreate your favourite dishes at home while plenty of food and drink stalls provide you with everything you need for a true Cornish feast.

Falmouth Book Festival

You’ll want to pull your nose out of your favourite book for this one as much-loved authors, poets, and storytellers flock to Falmouth for a literary celebration like no other. Getting around

There is possibly no better place for a car-free holiday in Cornwall than Falmouth thanks to the town’s numerous public transport options. Catch the bus or train for connections with the rest of Cornwall or leave dry land behind as you hop aboard a ferry to St Mawes or Truro. Of course, if you fancy visiting via car, you’ll find plenty of parking at one of the town’s many car parks or you can use the park and ride service.

great holiday especially the location and fantastic views.

Come to the Beacon, views to amaze. If you are relaxed, you could just sit and watch the world go by.

Very happy with The Beacon. Clean tidy & well kept. Well equipped kitchen with good quality pans & sharp knives ( not always the case in self catering properties!) Comfortable sofas in the lounge/diner area too. Good quality bedlinen. The view from the balcony is fabulous and a joy to wake up to everyday. We loved Falmouth and enjoyed many of it's restaurants whilst there.

Especially happy with the way Aspects dealt with our faulty tv problem. Excellent service all round, in that the tv was replaced the day after raising concerns. Thanks to Ross the housekeeper, who installed/set up the tv, it was great to chat to him about the area.

We are so glad you had a lovely time away and found everything you should need and more. We are always more than happy to help where we can as soon as we are aware of any queries and so, thank you for highlighting this for us. We hope we will be able to welcome you back again soon. We absolutely love this apartment. Its perfect for us. The rooms are immaculately clean, cosy and well kept. The facilities cover any emergent task. The prep and welcome from Nick and Becca (Aspect Holidays), goes above and beyond even if there is a problem it is resolved without reticence. The owner is most accommodating and flexible. We book up in advance every year...

The Beacon was perfect for our visit to Falmouth. The flat is beautifully furnished and the balcony view was amazing every day. The 50 or so steps were fine and kept us fit. It’s easy to explore the north and south coast and Falmouth has lots to offer. But best of all it was great to catch up with our daughter who’s at University there. We now understand why she loves the area so much.

What was good. View was as expected. Always changing. The flat was clean and had everything you need. It wasn’t far from the ferry and many excellent restaurants within walking distance. The cream tea waiting for us on arrival was a nice touch.

What was bad. The noise. At the back. The nearby Boathouse pub was incredibly noisy EVERY night of the week and the clientele seemed to enjoy communicating by shouting only. The road was always busy with vehicles many of which seemed to have exhaust issues. The front. When it was hot and the windows open, the building seemed to act as a parabolic sound capture device so every sound came into the room. This was mostly banging from the docks and diesel generators etc but also the constant whine of many small boat engines. It’s a harbour so you would expect boat engines but the sound of them all as soon as the sun came up was focused on us it appeared. When windy the boats made a noise like 30 children standing outside banging sticks on saucepans.

Also I didn’t think to check the direction the balcony faced. About 060 deg NE. So the sun was not on the balcony after about mid day and was behind the roof….so no afternoon relaxing in the sun to look at the view which was a shame.

Lastly the noise from below. This is not the fault of Aspects but we happened to have some people below the flat that were shouting swearing and literally fighting all night. So much so that by 4am I called the police who did sort them out.

Reply from Aspects Holidays

Thank you for taking the time to send in your feedback. We would like to reassure you that the disturbance you experienced from people in the flat below is not the norm, and we were sorry to hear that this occurred. However, sights and sounds of staying in such an amazing location by the harbour, with those stunning views and cafes, bars, and galleries just steps from the property, can be expected, particularly in the busier holiday or festival weeks. We appreciate that this might not be something that everyone likes, but for many, the sounds associated with the boats in the harbour, seagulls calling, and the hustle and bustle of such a location, conjure up images of beautiful days spent on holiday here in Cornwall and are exactly what is wanted. We do hope that you still enjoyed your time here and if you would like any advise on locations that may work better for you when next visiting Cornwall, please do not hesitate to get in touch with us. This was our families second visit to The Beacon and we have already booked The Beacon for 2024 so what more is there to say! Many thanks to the Aspects Team.

Fabulous views and accommodation spacious. It was lovely that a member of my family stayed in one of your apartments Walsingham below which was so lovely. It was good to have secure parking opposite The Beacon, and the scones and milk were a lovely treat to receive on our arrival. We saw the tall ships and perfect views from the large balcony.

Very comfortable apartment with stunning views. The location is perfect and although the hill is a tad steep, it very much helped with working off those extra calories gained from dining in the excellent Stones Bakery which is practically on the doorstep.

The Beacon is the best way to enjoy everything Falmouth has to offer. Great views and on walking distance from everything the center has to offer. It is spacious (although low ceilings) enough and nicely private.

Spectacular views from the property, was a well laid out apartment in a good place for exploring all Falmouth has to offer. Well equipped kitchen. Loads of hanging space in every bedroom Bonus having two parking spaces, even if they are a little tight to manoeuvre in to. Would book again if I'm in the area.

Overall great accommodation, in a perfect world the balcony could do with being a little larger with better seating, the seagulls were very noisy and hungry and left their mark!!!! However we were at the sea side so what can we complain about We were there for the sea shanty festival which was great, ideal accommodation for the location.

Reply from Aspects Holidays

We are glad that you enjoyed The Beacon and the sea shanty festival. Seagulls are particularly active at this time of year, being nesting season. They are less active at other times, so this may be something that some want to bear in mind when considering when to book, but being by the sea, they are not something that you will ever escape, and for many, the sound of them is a nice association of being by the sea and on holiday. Customer Services

We enjoyed staying at the Beacon so much our car remained in the car park for the whole week. Some visitors maybe concerned about getting to the apartment but the lift gets you to within I think 9 steps of the balcony level. A short walk down the high street gets you to the Prince of Wales Pier where we caught the ferry to St Mawes where we enjoyed a very nice meal at the St Mawes hotel. The Princess Pavilion & Gyllygdun Gardens and the beach cafe/restaurant at Gyllyngvase Beach offers superb meals for those who may like a little further walk across town. All in all we really enjoyed the holiday in this apartment.

Very spacious apartment with excellent views & a fantastic balcony. No need to cook as there are plenty of eateries in Falmouth & always pasties available! Also there were scones, jam & cream, plus milk, tea & coffee to welcome us, a lovely & thoughtful touch, very much appreciated. Another plus was a lift which enabled us to transport our luggage up to the apartment, this made it so much easier taking things up & down. We had a lovely sunny week & would definitely return to The Beacon.

Wonderful apartment with stunning views across the estuary… access not so good if you’re elderly or have mobility problems. Although there is a lift but still some stairs. Did hear the noise from the pub across the road & boy racers revving quite late…. Always book with aspects as always brilliant customer service.

Reply from Aspects Holidays

Thank you for taking the time to send in your feedback. This property may not suit all parties, due to the access steps and the location in the busy heart of Falmouth. We try to make this as clear as we can on the description, so we do hope that this was what you had expected. Although it is in the heart of this vibrant and popular Cornish town, with some associated noise to be expected, we hope that you agree, it is well worth it for those absolutely stunning views and being able to step out the front door and be strolling around the shops, enjoying some tasty food in the cafes and restaurants, on a little boat trip or on the beach in a matter of minutes. Tanya, Customer Services

Overall, a lovely week spent at the beacon, fantastic views with great sunrises. Clean and tidy, and well equipped. Would definitely book again and recommend a stay for friends

Great winter getaway, unloading the car was easy and parking opposite the property was a breeze. There is a lift to the property so guests with mobility issues who love a view this could be the place. The view is stunning. Good location close to shops, pubs and restaurants. Another Aspects gem.

We stayed at The Beacon for one week during October 2022. Everything went smoothly from our initial enquiry right to the end of our holiday. The booking process was straightforward and the Aspects staff were polite, friendly and helpful. The guidance regarding our arrival (including directions) was detailed and accurate.

The Beacon is a lovely, spacious apartment with absolutely wonderful views. The floor to ceiling windows in the hall, lounge and master bedroom (and one of the other bedrooms) meant the view could be enjoyed whichever room we were in and enhanced the feeling of space.

The apartment was clean and well- equipped. The kitchen offered everything we needed. Lovely thought to leave enough tea, coffee, sugar and milk along with scones, cream and jam to welcome guests.

The lounge/diner is large, as is the master bedroom. The other bedrooms are decent sizes, too. The ‘built in’ wardrobes in each bedroom offer plenty of storage space.

The secure, private parking is conveniently located just across the street. The Beacon has two allocated spaces. However, it may not be easy to manoeuvre two large cars into/ out of them due to where the spaces are situated.

We would certainly stay at The Beacon again and we would definitely book another holiday through Aspects.

Wonderful view, great location. Would definitely stop there again.

The Beacon at Falmouth is situated in a superb position with a stunning view over the confluence of the Fal and Penryn rivers. Although it can accommodate six would say it is good for two to four people. The apartment was clean and comfortable with adequate equipment but could do with some attention to detail and more thought given from the visitors perspective. There were some minor issues to which the agency Aspects Holidays, who have an office close by, responded well - we thought they were, without exception, excellent. Reasonable value for money and overall would recommend a stay at this property. Paul & Elizabeth, September 2022.

We had a great time in Falmouth and The Beacon was a great place to stay with everything close by with excellent restaurants and pubs. Of course the sunshine meant we could enjoy the beaches close by. We were so impressed with The Beacon and have booked it for next summer. Thanks to Aspects Holidays and their staff Thanks to the housekeeper (I think his name was Pious), My husband briefly met for making the accommodation nice and clean Much appreciated. Marilyn Kaliczak

We had a fantastic stay at The Beacon. The location is great and the views amazing. Aspect holidays were very helpful when we had a few small queries. We are a family of 4 (2 children under 8) and this felt like the perfect size property. Would 100% recommend the property.

As other guests have said some of the apartment does need some updating. Saying that the view is excellent, the position is very good and the fact that it has secure parking is a real bonus.

We are sorry if the style of décor was not what you had expected. We aim to offer a wide range of properties that we hope will meet the different budgets, differing requirements and individual tastes. Whilst this property is not marketed as one of our more higher end/modern properties, the owners usually keep it very well maintained and we try to show the style of decor as best as we can on the website photos so that customers can make an informed choice on whether it will suit them. Your comments have been passed on to the owners though, so they can consider any suggestions for future changes, and we will of course continue to monitor any further feedback. Thanks for taking the time to send in your comments. Tanya, Customer Services

Lovely spacious apartment with fantastic views. Great to have secure underground parking. As noted in a previous review there are a lot of steps, but there is a lift to move bags up and down which helped.

The Beacon was an amazing stay, the view was unforgettable of the harbour that looked amazing rain or shine. The apartment had everything we could have needed and was spotless. Would definitely stay again

Fantastic views from the apartment and parking over the road a bonus. Apartment just needed a bit of attention

I booked 6 nights with Aspect Holidays in 2019. Then after a series of unforseen events mostly to do with the pandemic restrictions. Aspect holidays were so helpful and reassuring throughout the cancellations, postponements and even when the original owner sold the rental I had booked. Throughout all this time, the telephone staff were always friendly, polite and professional.

Aspect switched me over to a nicer property, the Beacon.

I was booked in with my daughter who was joining me a day later. On my own, I found the instructions for getting in after 4pm easy to follow. I parked the car in an understandably cramped designated space in the secure multi-storey car park. I then started to unpack… Those steps up three floors was enough to get the old man to use the small lift. Of course, that was completely forgotten by the the joyous quality of the apartment which is beautiful and complimented by the panoramic vistas of Falmouth harbour and inlets. The beds are very comfortable, the facilities are so clean and homely and the nicest touch is the welcome pack of cake, scones, cookies and prosecco.

Before we left for home, I had recommended two other families to Aspect. I have pre booked for next year and I recommend the insurance for peace of mind. Thank You, Jacquie, Nic, Becca and Sam.

You could book this apartment just for the views alone, but it is also in a fantastic location - close to all the amenities but quiet enough - and a comfortable base for exploring all Falmouth has to offer. Parking was a real bonus. We loved it. If you're planning a stay in Falmouth it would be hard to beat.

We found The Beacon welcoming and very comfortable. It had everything we needed for a very relaxing holiday. The location suited us. It is within easy walking distance of the town, harbour and seafront. The views from the property are superb. We are looking forward to a return visit.

The Beacon accommodation has everything you need. You will never get bored of the lovely view. The location is close to the town and is only a very short walk to all the amenities. You won't be let down if you were to stay here. It is up a short hill but don't be put off by that. And I must repeat how lovely the view is over the harbour. I really shouldn't be giving this such a good review as I will definitely be going again and know how the availability for this property is very limited because how lovely it is.

We thoroughly enjoyed our stay at the Beacon. The apartment was very well equiped and very comfortable and warm. The views from the apartment were fantastic, we were sad to leave them behind. We would certainly recommend a stay here.

Wonderful holiday at The Beacon in October. Mesmerising view whether first thing in the morning as the sun came up over the dockyards or in the evening as the light faded. Lots of light and space and we were keen to get back in the afternoon to enjoy drinks on the balcony. Of course we had to visit Flushing and St Mawes after seeing the ferries go back and forth all day. Both lovely days out for walking and lunch at the Pandora Inn in Mylor Bridge. Great choice of restaurants, pubs and shops in Falmouth and so colourful with all the art students adding a Bohemian feel.

The Beacon is a fantastic apartment for estuary views and close proximity to the town centre. The layout gives a very spacious feel to the place and the kitchen is very well stocked.

Wonderful view from the lounge and balcony. Very comfortable main bedroom. Lovely apartment. The apartment is at one end of the high street, most of the restaurants are at the other end. It is about a 10 /15 minute walk to them which could be a problem for some people.

We are a family of 4 and all had a really lovely time. Aspect Holidays are always great and the flat was in the most fantastic location with gorgeous views from the panoramic windows and balcony. It was in very easy reach of the town and the pier from where there is a whole array of boat trips available. It was clean, comfortable and the kitchen was very well equipped. We would definitely recommend this place and Aspect Holidays too.

Great location with spectacular views, however it does need some money spending on it

Great location in easy reach of all local amenities and superb views. Lovely apartment that was really well equipped and allowed us to have a lovely relaxing break.

Enjoy

Nice flat in a great location. Views from the balcony over the estuary and harbour are superb.

Sitting with glass in hand and watching the activity on the water below is mesmerising

brilliant views makes the perfect stay and in such a great location and the lift comes in handy too.would def go back again for sure and recommend to anyone really is a gem too stay in. Can not fault it and is well stocked with everything you need and more

Lovely week in The Beacon. Views are amazing, beds comfortable, kitchen amenities good, some of the apartment needs updating such as bathroom and shower.

The Beacon has a gorgeous view of Falmouth harbour, very suitable for a family or group of six. It has a good location with the benefit of off street parking. We climbed the stairs every day which was great for our fitness levels. The balcony runs the length of the property so I would recommend it for a family with older children. The kitchen was well stocked with the normal things you’d expect plus a washing machine and a dishwasher. Our family had a lovely holiday in Falmouth with its beaches, sea food and waterways.

We were extremely impressed with the property itself and the amazing view! It was in immaculate decorative order and the decoration and furnishings were of a high standard and very comfortable. The kitchen was well equipped and had everything that we needed. The lockable door to the balcony of the property was also comforting. We loved the position of the property in relation to the town. The large windows overlooking the harbour let in lots of light and so it was a real pleasure to just sit and watch the view and relax. We enjoyed our holiday very much, what a wonderful place to retreat to in these difficult times!
