Shopping in St Ives
From books to jewellery to freshly made food, shopping in St Ives is a Cornish tradition thanks to the cobbled streets and independent shops that line them.
Tucked away on Porthminster side of town is Ivar’s Place, a welcoming retreat for couples or small families alike, who are looking for a cosy escape, just moments from the stunning blue waters of Porthminster beach. Situated on the first floor, and laid out over one level once inside, Ivar’s offers a cosy yet contemporary feel, featuring an open-plan living area that's perfect for quality family time. Whether you're gathering for meals or unwinding on the sofa after a day by the coast, this inviting space is designed for comfort and relaxation. Guests can choose from two beautifully decorated bedrooms, a king-size master, and a charming bunk room ideal for children, featuring a cosy snug area, ideal for bedtime stories. The family shower room completes the mix. Step outside to the compact outside space, complete with bistro table and seating for two inviting you to soak up the sun with your morning coffee or enjoy an evening drink under the stars.
The location is ideal for exploring St Ives, being only a short amble from bustling town centre with its many shops and galleries, including the renowned Tate St Ives, with a great choice of restaurants and cafes in which to sit and watch the world go by. With parking included in your stay, just a five min stroll downhill (slightly longer back up), you can explore further afield, without the hassle of trying to find parking on your return.
four external stone steps leading to communal door, with a further flight of internal stairs leading to apartment front door. Hallway with doors to:
electric hob and oven, washing machine, air fryer, fridge with freezer compartment dining table with seating for four, two sofas, Smart TV. French door leading out to compact outside area with bistro table and seating for two.
king size bed.
bunk beds with reading nook, hanging hoos for clothes- Ideally suited for children.
rainfall shower, WC and basin.
electric panel radiators throughout, parking is a five min walk downhill at Primrose Valley ( please note the hill leading down to Primose Valley is a steep incline), WiFi, short breaks available.
This is all about location with comfort. The Surf school (surf, kayak and coasteering) is right outside down the hill alongside Porthminster Beach Cafe, with dishes featuring produce from the cafe garden. Seal spotting is a delight and I'm returning home way more toned and in shape than when I arrived thanks to the steep hill. I loved it and it gave me the opportunity to try the cream teas at Pedn Olva which are heavenly and the lemon meringue pie at Porthmeor Beach Cafe. For those not wishing for the body toning hill, there's a flatter / no steps walking route just as easily accessible from the Bus station.
As for the place, it was more spacious than I expected with very clever arrangement in the lounge diner. We loved the provision of amenities like tea milk coffee and bathroom essentials which enabled us to feel at home straight away after a long journey.
The beds are comfortable and the bathroom is smart. Everything was cleaned to a very good standard which we really appreciated.
The views on stepping out every morning were breathtaking! Porthminster beach right outside down the hill and we luxuriated at The Lookout at Pedn Olva with a second coffee each morning. We were extremely grateful for the very nice coffee provided at the apartment which gave us a boost to start the day.
Trips to Penzance and Mousehole were a breeze with the bus and train station just moments away.
We didn't want to leave and will certainly consider returning for another break in St Ives very soon.
Thank you Aspects and the owners of Ivar's Place.
