The Flying Pilchard cottage was larger than we expected and the bathroom had a separate shower fitting which was fantastic. Very quiet location with friendly neighbours. The Norway store is just across the road which is convenient. We would definitely stay again !

Steeped in history, Downalong is a timeless haven that captures the fishing heritage and thriving art community of this enchanting area of St Ives. With all that St Ives has to offer on your doorstep, spend endless days exploring the sandy shores, stunning coastal paths and bustling harbourside.
Downalong is a historic Cornish term for an area of harbourside fisherman's cottages 'down along the harbour'?

We love the Flying Pilchard. Perfect for 2. Local neighbours either side, so please be respectful for them. They deserve good holiday guests. Location is brilliant too. For beaches and shops.
Ms Quinton Jun 2024
The Flying Pilchard is a snug place to stay, so close to beaches, cafes, shops & walks but quiet & peaceful. It’s also surprisingly roomy for two people with large comfy lounge & big bathroom & kitchen! Loved our stay there over New Year - it was super cosy in bad weather to retreat home there.
Ms Crawford Jan 2024
Lovely just lovely! Ideal spot for everything you need clean and tidy with a well stocked kitchen that is better than at home we found ! Central heating is great for those chilly nights and mornings
Mr Webb Oct 2023
The cottage was very lovely, the location was very central. Everything was very easy to walk to. The facilities in the cottage were excellent. I would highly recommend the cottage.
Mrs Phillips Oct 2023
Great little cottage, hidden away and very handy for everything in St. Ives. Close to 3 beaches for the early morning dog walk.
Mrs Leech Oct 2023
Please enjoy this property for its quietness and lovely respectful local neighbours. This may be a small cottage but every room is somehow a very good size. Fantastic airy kitchen to sit and eat in. A lovely relaxing sitting room and the bedroom has a great sized bed with great storage space. The bathroom is ample and the shower works well too. It’s a little gem. But please don’t book it when we want it!
Ms Quinton Jul 2023
Comfortable and cosy, perfect for a couple. Close to everything St Ives has to offer but nice, peaceful location away from the hustle and bustle!

Mrs Tagholm Mar 2023
Lovely cosy cottage perfect for two and ideally situated for exploring in and around St Ives.
Mrs Bovingdon Nov 2022
The flying pilchard is a charming little cottage in an excellent area of St.Ives. It is well decorated and has a homely feel. It is situated in a row of residential cottages so need to be respectful of that. However, the dog next door is quite noisy (but not a real problem) Overall the cottage is a great little bolt hole. I would definitely recommend to family and friends.
Mrs Lewis Nov 2022
Perfect location
Mr Farnhill Oct 2022

Miss Teer Jul 2022
Perfect for two. Tucked away in North Place. The neighbours either side are St Ives residents so deserve guests who are quiet and respectful of their homes. The Flying Pilchard is small but perfectly sized and it’s kitchen space is light and airy. It’s a lovely comfortable and homely property. Proximity to Porthmeor beach and Porthminster is exceptionally close. Having Norway Stores less than 100ft away is a real bonus.
Ms Quinton Jul 2022

Warm, cosy & clean. Good location, close to the harbour. The little shop just across the road was useful for when we needed to top up our shopping. Close to the car park, which made arriving/leaving easy. We love St Ives and come here as often as we can during the winter months, this was our first time staying at the flying pilchard and it didn’t disappoint.

Wonderful 4th stay at the flying pilchard . Location and accommodation for two people perfect. We did have some housekeeping issues , which were addressed by aspects as soon as we contacted them . Would be nice if you re introduced the welcome pack as this was sadly missing . Cornish biscuits , tea, milk, cake would be nice . It’s the little things that make the greatest impact .

We are glad that you liked the Flying Pilchard, and although we spoke to you at the time of your stay, we would again like to apologise for the disturbances caused by the roofing works taking place on the neighbouring property. Had we been aware of this before your arrival, we would have pre-warned you, and we are very sorry that we had not had that opportunity. Unfortunately, in a residential area like this, it can come up from time to time without warning, but we are happy to read that it has not put you off returning to The Flying Pilchard. Tanya, Customer Services
Lovely cottage very quiet and good location.
Mrs Wilkinson Feb 2019
Wonderful location that allowed us to explore St Ives easily. Cosy property which would be perfect if it had any form of parking.

It's great to hear how much you enjoyed The Flying Pilchard. Parking is unfortunately at a premium in St Ives, with many properties not having this facility. For those without this facility, it is always worth looking into parking options beforehand on the local council website and looking into private parking availability, particularly for peak weeks. There is also a park and ride facility which some find useful. Please feel free to contact the team for any advice. Thanks for your comments, and we hope to see you back here soon. The Flying Pilchard is light and spacious, equipped to a high standard. It is perfectly positioned for The Tate, the town and several of the beaches. A real bonus is Norway Stores, quaint but amazingly well stocked and only 50 yards away.
