Steeped in history, Downalong is a timeless haven that captures the fishing heritage and thriving art community of this enchanting area of St Ives. With all that St Ives has to offer on your doorstep, spend endless days exploring the sandy shores, stunning coastal paths and bustling harbourside.
Downalong is a historic Cornish term for an area of harbourside fisherman's cottages 'down along the harbour'?

Excellent cottage in heart of St. Ives.
Mr Davies Sep 2024
A great location to stay, able to enjoy all aspects of St Ives, to the long walks along the beautiful coastal paths , Tate, Barbara Hepworth,Leach Pottery, to the evening drinks down at the harbour. Chapel House had everything we needed to make our stay most enjoyable. Even went to the cinema and saw “Catch the Wind “ St Ives in the 1960’s Many thanks Aspect Holidays Nicola and Martin Davis

We (3 people + small / midsize dog) had a great stay in Chapel House. It is a lovely place, very well equipped and perfectly located within St. Ives with shops and beaches just nearby, but nevertheless absolutely quiet; we really felt at home. Among others we enjoyed the outdoor area with a bench for breakfast in the morning sun and to hang up towels & wetsuits. However, you may bear in mind you can not park right in front the house, but have to walk a steep path with all your luggage. Similar for inside the house, as you only reach the bath and sleeping room via steep stairs (no issue at all for us). Parking may become an issue, but although staying in main season we always found a place in barnoon car park when arriving in late afternoons after first day-visitors have left. We will definitely consider Chapel House again when coming to St Ives next time, and refer to "aspects holidays" as all communication has always been prompt, very kind and helpful. Thanks a lot.

Aspect made booking so easy and went out there way to help us book a slightly longer stay than the standard week. The accommodation is lovely, nice and cool on those hot summer days. There’s a few points where you beef to mind your head buts that’s to be as expected with the age of the cottage
Mr Drane Jul 2024
We loved the cosy Chapel House cottage especially the art and ceramic's giving the cottage a lovely arty St Ives feel. The location was a great and the cottage had everything you could need.
Mrs Evans Jun 2024
Very comfortable cottage with lots of character. Well placed for all of St Ives but quietly tucked away. Lovely gift on arrival, thank you ??. Would definitely return/recommend. As usual great service from Aspects!
Mrs Russell May 2024
Chapel House is a fantastic bolt hole, perfectly positioned to easily access all that St Ives has to offer. It’s a lovely quirky welcoming cottage, very comfortable, clean and well equipped.
Mrs Rye May 2024
Our dog was totally relaxed and seemed to love being there, as did we. The equipement was thoughtful and excellent. The beds were warm and comfortable as was the whole cottage. It is very convenient for the harbour, the shops and most important, The Sloop! Thank you for a great short break. It is a very small space but good use is made of every inch. Very tall people will need to remember to duck at times!
Mr Edwards Apr 2024
Chapel House excellent location very homely side porch very handy for coats boots etc Great welcome tray full of things to help on arrival
Mrs Mcbride Mar 2024
Thank you for a lovely stay in the middle of St. Ives. Comfortable , practical, close to the beach and rail station. What more could you ask for in a sunny week in Cornwall
Mr Bragg Sep 2023
Immediately you’re hit by the quiet location: yard from the crazy of Fore Street, yet suddenly you’re in a peaceful, shady and private little courtyard. The cottage looks as gorgeous as the photos, and as you enter you’re welcomed by a spotlessly clean and tidy cottage which has retained all its original charm, yet is styled in a modern, tidy and considerate manner.
The entrance is bright and cheerful and provides a welcome space for body boards, brollies, coats and wet dogs! There’s a lovely little table and chairs, perfect for breakfast or morning coffee. The open plan lounge and kitchen are cosy yet spacious, and everything is available for a comfortable and easy stay, especially if you’re cooking your own meals. A welcome pack was also provided with fresh bread, butter, tea, coffee, milk sugar and snacks, a lovely touch from the property owners which was very gratefully received! The kitchen is very well appointed and sensibly laid out. Even dogs are catered for with blankets and food/water bowls!
Upstairs you have a good-sized bright and breezy bedroom with what look like original roof rafters (?) from Chapel House’s historic past. There’s an en suite bathroom with shower/bath and again, everything is spotless. We found the bed very comfortable and always had a great night’s sleep. A little torch is provided for those night-time bathroom visits!
The photos don’t do justice to the modern yet homely style and layout, where every inch of space is used to best effect. Make sure you bring a good selection of jazz to get the full experience!
Someone mentioned the lack of natural light and while this is true of the lounge/kitchen we were grateful for the tree shade in some very warm temperatures. The bedroom is bright though. There are a couple of low beams already mentioned, on the stairs and in the shower, but this is St Ives where everything is tiny! Signs and padding are provided to remind you to take care. Information about parking and unloading is given but note that Barnoon Long Stay is at the top of a very steep hill with some steps so consider your unloading and loading options carefully beforehand if you have any mobility issues.
All in all we agreed this is the nicest and most welcoming property we’ve stayed in, despite regular trips around the country, around Europe and around the US. We would happily stay here again and would have no problem recommending it to others.
Mrs Hawker Sep 2023
Chapel House is a quaint and beautiful place to stay for a St Ives holiday. Just off the beaten track and bustle of Fore Street it is perfectly located for all that St Ives has to offer. Beautifully presented with everything you need, very cosy, like a home from home!! I’ve stayed at this property many times and would definitely book again.
Ms Power Aug 2023
The property was well located close to the harbour and shops, yet still quiet. Although small, the property was fine for two people. One problem was a strong odour of smelly dog at the property which didn't dissappear, this made returning to the property less enjoyable each day, sorry. Otherwise everything was clean and in good working order.

We were sorry to hear about that smell. We haven't had anything like this reported at Chapel House, both before or after your stay. This is of course not to dispute that there had been a smell at the time of your stay, but is just to reassure you that should you return, this isn't something that we would expect again. We will of course continue to monitor feedback though, so thanks for letting us know. If we are not informed, we will not be aware, and not know what to improve. We do hope that you still had a great time. Tanya, Customer Services
For a 2 person booking Chapel House fits the bill. Fully equipped kitchen and dining table and chairs. There is not a lot of room downstairs but a lot of properties in St Ives have this problem. The lean-to on the side of the house is ideal for somewhere to put all your coats, shoes, bags, etc. 2 minutes to Fore Street ( for shopaholics ! ) and another 2 minutes to the harbour so very well located. No noise can be heard at all in the house as it is behind the shops. Very easy to find at the bottom of The Digey. If you park in the Sloop car park it's only a short walk to carry your bags. Not a lot of natural light in the house but not a problem if you are out all day. Good value in an expensive resort.
Mr Tansley Oct 2022
Great place as is central but need a trolley for bringing your luggage to the cottage.
Mr Sharpe Sep 2022
Nice cottage but with head height issues and access for unloading not good . However ideal spot for the town

We are glad that you liked this lovely cosy little cottage. The old traditional cottages here tend to have quite quirky features when compared to more modern homes, including lower ceiling heights, steeper, narrower stairs, unusual shaped rooms and layouts. We try to show these as best as we can on the website photos and often include additional information in the descriptions. We hope that the ceiling heights were therefore what you had expected from the photos included. We will continue to monitor for further feedback though. Due to the great location, right in the heart of the town, yet tucked away enough that you are away from all the main footfall, there isn't direct vehicular access to the property. That has huge advantages when it comes to making it a quieter location in the town but will involve a bit more of a walk with your luggage on arrival and departure days. We hope that you had a great holiday and hopefully we will see you back here in St Ives soon. Tanya, Customer Services
Completely satisfied with chapel house located is also great will book again soon in our happy place st ives
Mr King Jun 2022
Chapel House is perfectly located for Harbour Beach and Porthmeor Beach, literally a minute’s walk! The house is hidden away and amazingly quiet - great night’s sleep. Extremely well thought out decor and great use of a small space. Perfect bolthole for 2 people, with the option of a comfy sofa bed also. Loved it ! X
