Holidays in Mullion

Situated in a National Landscape (formerly Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty) on the Lizard Peninsula, Mullion is a quaint village much unchanged by time. Its harbour, now owned by the National Trust, was built in the 1890’s for the pilchard fishing industry. Half a mile offshore is the uninhabited Mullion Island, home to large colonies of sea birds, also protected by the National Trust.

Famous for its history of smuggling, Mullion is the largest village on The Lizard, with a working harbour and the 15th century church of St Mellanus. This traditional Cornish village is perfect for a relaxing holiday for families or couples alike. Visitors can experience the village lifestyle; pop to the shops for some local produce, purchase cake from the independent cafes and enjoy a drink at the village pub. Additionally, it's a great base for those looking to explore the beautiful scenery on The Lizard. Walk along the South West Coast Path and be treated to some of the best views in Cornwall.

Whilst Mullion is a relatively small village, there’s plenty to do during your holiday. As well as the facilities within the village itself, visitors can pop to the local craft centre, visit one of the nearby beaches, enjoy a round of golf or go kayaking from the harbour.

Did you know...

dogs are welcome at Mullion Cove all year round!

Things to do in Mullion

Chocolate Factory and Craft Centre:

Just above Mullion Cove, you’ll find the Chocolate Factory and Craft Centre. An absolute must if you are staying in Mullion. Home to Trenance Chocolate, you can watch the chocolate being made and choose your favourites from the shop.

The centre also has a selection of lovely shops selling a range of locally made, eco-friednly products and gifts, including skin care products, candles and craft gifts. You can also try your hand at making your own glass artwork at the Mullion Glass Studio and Workshop with Zoe Schoning.

Before leaving the Craft Centre be sure to visit its resident llamas behind the car park.

Mullion Golf Course:

With breathtaking views across the ocean, Mullion Golf Course must be one of the most desirable courses to play golf. The 18-hole course boasts fabulous views throughout, and the 11th tee is uniquely situated on the cliff edge.

Kayaking:

Mullion Cove is the perfect spot for going kayaking. Head out from the cove to explore hidden bays and caves, seeing the coast from a different perspective. If you’re lucky, you may even see seals on your adventure! Book your trip with www.lizardadventure.co.uk

Beaches

Mullion Cove Beach:

Mullion Cove Beach is a small, sheltered cove next to the historic lifeboat station, with a further sandy stretch, accessible at low tide, just around the corner from the harbour. The beach and harbour are owned and looked after by the National Trust. Parking is available at the harbour, along with toilets and a café. Dogs are welcome all year round but the beach is not lifeguarded.

Pollurian Beach:

Pollurian beach is a beautiful west-facing, sandy beach which is partly sheltered by the high cliffs that flank the beach. Though difficult to get to, the beach is popular with locals and visitors alike, and surfers when the swell is good. There is no parking at the beach, so it’s best to park at Mullion and walk the coastal path to the reach the beach. Dogs are welcome outside of the summer season, while lifeguards are present at weekends only, during the summer season.

Poldhu Cove:

Popular with the locals for its café with famous hot chocolates, Poldhu Cove is a wonderful beach for families, also owned by the National Trust. Children can enjoy safely playing in the stream that leads to the sea at this sheltered beach. Visitors can make the most of the facilities available, including a café, surf school and toilets. Lifeguards are present during the summer months.

Really lovely welcome pack. A nice touch with the Easter eggs! Everything was as we expected and more. Even the absence of parking wasn't an issue.

Great little cottage which is very well equipped. It is a lovely friendly village well positioned for beautiful beaches & coastal walks. Good food in the local pub & at the Bistro in nearby Mullion Cove Hotel. Very dog friendly cottage. We, 4 adults & 2 dogs, had a great week & hope to return next year.

Lovely compact cottage in a busy little village with good facilities (shops and pubs etc) - every effort made by owners and housekeeper to provide a comfy, clean and cosy base for exploring The Lizard. Small garden, very nice but not ideal for big dogs or those who like a lawn, but otherwise would recommend Mullion Cottage.

We had an excellent week in Mullion Cottage with our two dogs. The cottage is a beautiful, traditional cottage. We arrived to the most wonderful welcome pack of tea, coffee, biscuits, crisps, bread, scones, clotted cream, jam and strawberries and a bottle of wine. Our dogs also enjoyed their welcome pack of dog beds, blankets and treat sticks. The cottage is super comfortable, the bed was super king size and extremely comfortable. The shower is a little small, but not a major issue. All the facilities in the cottage are top class, and there is EVERYTHING you need in the cottage. We did a full search of the place to find the cutlery, to find it neatly compacted in the top of the top drawer to the left of the oven ?? The sun room offered a lovely space for myself to sit in to have a quiet read for an hour after breakfast.. The garden is a beautiful enchanted garden style space Unfortunately because of the time of year we went, I didn’t get to see it in Full bloom, but I imagine it would be beautiful, with a bench to sit out on, and a table and chairs for an evening glass, or morning coffee. The only fault was that there is a shed at the bottom of the garden that is very easily accessible to curious dogs. My dog kept jumping into the roof and walking across onto the neighbours garage roof. We tried to block it off but he still kept getting up there, and the neighbours knocked one evening and requested that I get my dog off his roof!! This really needs to be rectified as if a dog walks to the end of the corrugated roof, he could easily access the road. The cottage itself is in a fantastic location, with the Spar across the road selling everything and even has its own bakery for your Cornish pasties. There are two lovely pubs within a couple of minutes walking distance. We didn’t bother with the garage, we parked on the car park opposite The Old Inn. There are an abundance of fantastic walks from the door and many more within a short drive from Mullon. The Lizard peninsula is a stunning area of Cornwall and Mullion Cottage is an ideal place to stay to discover it

We are so glad to hear how much you enjoyed this property and its amazing location. The owners work extremely hard to provide a comfortable and high standard of accommodation for their guests, including their furry friends. It seems to attract many parties with dogs on their bookings and for the vast majority, the garden space works really well for both dogs and their humans. The owners made some adaptations around the outhouse last year, but if you have a dog breed that is very agile and very inquisitive in nature, it may be possible that a few will be able and inclined to explore, and it is advisable to supervise them in their new surroundings. The garden is enclosed and a very safe space for the majority of dogs though, and for anyone interested in booking this property, we include a few photos on the website that show the area mentioned and should help you to make an informed decision on whether this will suit you and your pet. Tanya, Customer Services

We absolutely loved our stay at Mullion Cottage and cannot wait to return. Upon arrival the arrival package was gratefully received and the added touches of a book each for our children and treats for our two dogs was something we didn't expect, but it made such a difference. Set in the heart of the village we really did feel spoilt in this wonderful Cornish cottage. Parking was available in the car park around the corner, just a few minutes walk away and being able to load and unload outside the property after a day at the beach was great. We would go back in a heartbeat! Cannot recommend highly enough.

Our family of three (mum, dad and teenage daughter) enjoyed our stay in Mullion Cottage. It is immaculately presented and very well equipped. Mullion is easy to find and a very friendly village, with a clear sense of community, which is lovely to see and made us think there were fewer second homes/holiday cottages here than in many other areas of Cornwall we've visited. The Spar over the road from the cottage is very handy but if you are looking for a week of lie-ins then this cottage isn't for you as there are four very early morning deliveries every week! Luckily we were out of the door after breakfast so not too much of an issue for us. Thanks for the lovely welcome pack too :-)

Reply from Aspects Holidays

We are so glad to hear how much you all enjoyed this lovely property and the pretty village of Mullion. It definitely is somewhere with a great sense of community and a lovely atmosphere. The deliveries at the Spar may be noticed if you are a bit of a light sleeper, but the frequency and timings of these will vary through the year, with less deliveries at other times, and not always early. We hope that you agree, the convenience of a well-stocked shop with an in-store bakery, fresh food, hot food, off-licence, and an ATM, is a great bonus, meaning that you don't need to drive all the way to Helston for supermarket supplies. We are glad to hear that it worked so well for you and hopefully we will see you back here again soon. Tanya, Customer Services

We highly recommended Mullion Cottage. It is a very welcoming space and every effort was made to ensure you have all the things you might need during your stay, definitely the best equipped cottage of this kind we’ve experienced. Beautiful garden, cosy interior, perfect location.

A great stay in a very comfortable cottage. We were left a lovely welcome pack for ourselves and our dog. Recommended!

We thoroughly enjoyed our stay here and would definitely come back. Great set up for dog and he loved all the goodies left. The garden was lovely in sun and enclosed for the dog. Very clean and comfy. It wasn’t initially set up for little ones however the owners and aspect really tried to make it a great stay for us.

Would highly recommend Mullion Cottage very comfortable and everything you needed for a great stay. Easily accessible to lots of nice coves and beaches and a lovely local pub. The cottage garden was so pretty.

Gorgeous cottage and garden in a great location. The bed was very comfortable. Walking distance to some lovely beaches and short car journey to the Lizard. The local pub and chippy serve nice food, and the little shop over the road is good for essentials and a tasty pasty.

This was my second stay at Mullion Cottage with Jack, my Lakeland Terrier. We both find it charming. It is well placed for shops and for walks down to Polurian Cove or across the fields. The cottage itself is spotless and has everything needed for a holiday. The courtyard garden is lovely and a real sun trap - perfect for morning coffee or evening wine !!

A cosy cottage in a fantastic location. Beautiful, dog friendly garden.

Beautifully appointed cottage. Super clean, comfortable, warm & cosy, equipped & furnished to a high standard. Really appreciated the generous gifts from the owners. Parking in the garage & free parking locally are a real bonus making it so easy to visit all the amazing surrounding areas. The lovely garden & sun room were a treat to sit in & relax. Beach just over a mile away & the walk from poldhu to mullion cove was breathtaking. Thankyou to the owners for making this an outstanding holiday cottage & to aspects for their excellent service. We will definitely return.

Stayed in Mullion Cottage with my Mum, Daughter and my dog the cottage truly is home from home and was very comfortable for all of us with both bathrooms being en-suite. The cottage was immaculately clean and very well equipped. Everything you can think of is there and high quality. The large private enclosed garden at the rear is a lovely sun trap and safe for dogs and with the added bonus of an outside tap. Very comfortable beds. The generous treats left by the hosts were thoughtful and enjoyed by us all including the dog with the treats left for her. We enjoyed meals in Old Mullion Inn in the village and walks on the SW coast path accessible easily on foot directly from Mullion. We used the cottages garage to park the car just around the corner from the cottage as well as the villages free car parks. Thoroughly recommend the circular walk from the cottage down to Polurrian Cove via the bridleway and coast path round to Mullion Cove. As well as the coastal walks from Lizard a short drive away. Would definitely recommend this cottage and would love to return.

Beautifully presented cottage, scrupulously clean, well equipped with everything you need, the treats left for us were a lovely touch. Excellent location, for coastal walks only 1.25 miles away. There is a lovely little South facing rear garden with furniture as well as the small conservatory Excellent local pub and shops a very short walk from the cottage. The garage was big enough for our Seat Ateca , to give you an idea of the size, we also made use of the village car park which is opposite the pub. We had a lovely week , and plan to return , highly recommended.

Perfect cottage in a lovely location. The owners have gone the extra mile and the welcome pack is unexpected but great so thoughtful.

Would return in a heartbeat loved everything about it. Poldhu Cove is a fantastic beach to visit and The chocolate factory with its cafe and mees shops great place to go for lunch or cream tea

Mullion cottage is a cosy and charming property in an ideal location for exploring the local area. It has been thoughtfully designed to make sure there is everything you need for your stay. We loved to location, a short walk from Mullion Cove and near to a few local shops, the pub and cafe. For parking, we used one of the free car parks in the village as our car was too big for the garage. The free car parks always had spaces. We’d definitely recommend a visit to Mullion Cottage.

Delightful holiday cottage in convenient location. Beautiful garden; very well equipped and with lovely thoughtful extra touches. Super comfortable beds. Not suitable for very young kids or people with mobility issues as parking outside is restricted and the stairs are steep. Local beaches are stunning and plenty of choice for places to eat out. We spent our beach days at Poldhu and Kynance and enjoyed the food at Amelie in Porthleven and The Shack in Falmouth. The local curry company was also very handy and tasty!

Reply from Aspects Holidays

We are glad that you liked it here. It is a great location for easily getting to some of the stunning beaches in that area. Some of my favourite coastal walks are around there :-) Some of the more traditional properties around here have stairs that are steeper and or narrower than what we may be used to in more modern homes, so we have tried to clearly show what they are like in this property so that guests can make an informed decision. We hope that this was what you were expecting. We are sorry to hear that you found the parking to be restricted. Parking is often quite limited in many villages around Cornwall, as they were not originally built with todays traffic in mind, but this property, in comparison, is quite well covered for this, with the allocated garage space for a small to medium car (not directly outside), overnight parking possible outside between 6pm and 9am (on a first come first served basis) and permissible unloading/loading for up to 30 minutes at other times, and with the 2 free car parks in the village within a few minutes' walk of the property. However, if you prefer something right outside the property, then this would be something you may need to consider. Thanks for your comments and we hope to see you back. Tanya, Customer Services

Mullion Cottage is a very well equipped, recently updated property situated in the heart of the village. Not having a parking spot directly outside could be an issue for some. But not for us. There is a garage just around the corner and two village car parks nearby. Btw 9am to 6pm parking is limited to half of an hour on the road outside. This gives plenty of time to off load and load up. The garden is a little sun trap and although enclosed, the more agile dog could easily access the roof of the outhouse and say hello to the neighbouring dog! The nearest beach is about a mile away at Poldhu Cove. Which has a decent cafe, and even a surf school. We visited 3 or 4 times and it was never overcrowded even with surf lessons running. The cottage is an ideal location to explore the Lizard and beyond. A visit to Porthleven is a must. It has a good mixture of shops and nice cafes.

Reply from Aspects Holidays

Thank you for your feedback; we are glad that you enjoyed your time here. Following this review, measures have been put in place to prevent 'a more agile dog' from accessing the outhouse roof. Tanya, Customer Services

Beautiful clean and quirky traditional Cornish cottage....ideal for walks to coastal area's and Lizard Point.

Great location and super comfortable accomodation. We loved all the welcome goodies and our little dog was well caterd for. The outside space was great for al fresco eating and also handy for drying our swimming gear. Mullion itself had everything we needed ...pubs, well stocked shops, fish and chips, delicious take away curries and gorgeous beaches within walking distance. We really loved our stay at Mullion Cottage!

Great little cottage in Mullion. Perfect for two.Beautifully decorated and spotlessly clean. Lovely week walking the coastal path exploring the Lizard and all its wonderful little coves. Can't wait to return!

Lovely cottage in a sweet village a mile or so from the coast and harbour, with a few shops, 2 pubs and a lovely church. The cottage is really comfortable inside, warm, cosy, clean, pretty and very well appointed, with everything provided for a comfortable stay. The garden is a really lovely sheltered space for eating outside or sitting in the sun.
