October 2021

We thoroughly enjoyed our holiday at West Holm. This was our first holiday in two years! We had booked West Holm in September 2020 but cancelled because of Covid. Aspect Holidays were so helpful and we got almost a full refund. It was worth the wait. The bungalow is in a quiet location even though there are neighbours all around. It is extremely well equipped with many appliances better than ours at home! The king size bed was comfortable too. Overall very nicely done.

Holidays in Bude

Carrying the title of Cornwall’s northern-most coastal town, Bude is perfectly placed to enjoy some of the north coast’s beautiful beaches and coastal walks.

Bude has so much to offer when it comes to things to do, including a fabulous town with a wide selection of independent shops, cafés, and restaurants – not to mention the wildest live music venue in Cornwall. In addition, visitors can meander along Bude Canal, stretch out on one of the many beaches, or enjoy a gentle cruise in a pedal boat or kayak, observing the beautiful area from a different angle. The town is home to the historic Bude Sea Pool and The Castle Bude, both a must if you are in the area.

For those who enjoy walking, the South West Coast Path can be easily accessed from Bude. You’ll be blown away by the stunning scenery and breathtaking views along the coastline – it’s also a great dog-friendly day out!

With so much on the doorstep, it’s the perfect destination for a holiday by the sea!

Top tip

Take a dip in the historic Bude Sea Pool at Summerleaze Beach!

Beaches in Bude

Each with its own character and charm, the beaches in Bude are great whether you’re a swimmer, surfer or sand-snoozer.

Summerleaze Beach – Boasting the iconic sea pool, and only a five-minute walk from the centre of Bude, Summerleaze Beach is Bude’s central hub of sand, surf, and sun. Clean, safe, and easy on the eye, Summerleaze Beach is a big hit with surfers, sun-bathers, and families. However, it’s the sheer variety of activities that mark Summerleaze as arguably one of the best beaches in Cornwall for outdoor pursuits and watersports so definitely swing by if you love a hands-on holiday.

Crooklets Beach – At low tide, you’ll find a huge expanse of golden sand along with lots of rockpools to explore, making it very popular with families. There’s also decent surf and lots of amenities nearby including a beach café for those all-important ice creams and even a skate park.

Widemouth Bay Beach – Stretching across one and a half miles of golden sands, Widemouth Bay is divided into two halves, the North beach and the South beach, separated by a natural barrier of rock known as Black Rock. As the tide retreats, amazing rock formations are exposed - perfect for rockpooling and getting back to nature!

Northcott Mouth Beach – Three miles North of Bude is the small rocky beach Northcott Mouth, which is owned by the National Trust. As the tide drops, the beach opens up to expansive sand with rockpools dotted all around - perfect for exploring with the dog all year round.

Ordinarily, a castle built on the sand might not seem like the best idea, but Bude Castle has really stood the test of time! Built around 1830, the castle was formally the home of Victorian inventor Sir Goldsworthy Gurney. It’s now a heritage centre with lots of fascinating exhibitions and art galleries, making this impressive feat of architecture an interesting day whatever the weather.

Bude Sea Pool

Opened in 1930, this partially man-made tidal swimming pool in the rocks of Summerleaze beach provides a lovely, safe place to swim, perfect if you’re not ready to swim in the sea. The pool is open all year round, but of course, it depends on the tide and weather, so always check before heading out.

Surfing & Watersports

Based near Summerleaze beach, Bude Surfing Experience provides water sports equipment hire and watersports lessons so you can hit the waves running as you try your hand at surfing and stand-up paddleboarding!

Head to Banford’s Bude, Jemima Rainbow, or Wildwood Cornwall for unique Cornish gifts, or you can stop by the Refill Shop for some environmentally friendly supplies. You’ll also find popular big names from FatFace to Ann’s Cottage, which houses all the top surfing brands.

Walks

With lots of stunning walks in and around Bude, walkers will be spoilt for choice when it comes to scenic routes. Head out onto the South West Coast path for dramatic coastal paths or head inland and explore the many walkways, which take you across crisscrossing fields, through woodland trails and even past Bude’s historic aqueduct.

Dining Out

After a day frolicking in the sea, we often find ourselves in need of a big feed, which is perfect when you’re surrounded by all the great places to eat in Bude. Head to Life’s A Beach for epic food and relaxed vibes or live out your dream of feasting on the water at The Barge! Another quirky stop-off that’s of special gin-terest is The Surfin’ Frog, which not only serves up cracking food but offers guests a choice of over 20 Cornish gins! If you’re looking forward to a cosy evening in, then a visit to the Little Pig Farmshop will see you kitted out with everything you could possibly need for an evening of foodie delights.

A fantastic property with every thoughtful touch in place. Super comfortable, homely, clean and location excellent. Would highly recommend.

West Holm is a very nice property, although we did have a problem with dirty floors on arrival which we cleaned and then reported when the agency was open.

Plenty of equipment in the kitchen and lots of books/dvds maps etc to use. The property is in a good location very quiet and a few minutes walk to the beach Conservatory was a nice place to sit and read looking out over the garden. Very nice place to stay we enjoyed our week.

Reply from Aspects Holidays

We were so sorry to hear this. We would always expect that guests arrive to their chosen property to find that it has been cleaned to a very high standard, and if that was not the case, we would always do everything possible to put that right for you. We certainly wouldn't expect guests to have to take the time to do this themselves. The housekeepers should leave their contact details in the property so that they can return, even if the office is closed. We also have an out of hours service, so no guest should ever be left in a position of needing to wait for the office to open, if there is something that needs to be dealt with urgently. We can only apologise if any areas had been missed and please rest assured that this was followed up with the cleaner. Thank you for your comments. Tanya, Customer Services

Lovely property nice and clean. Great location short walk to beach and costal path. Very well equipped kitchen cooked a few meals in the cottage and found everything we needed. The outside storage was great too with all the beach equipment, the boys tried to bodyboard and loved it. The Welcome box was a nice touch after a long journey would definitely recommend this property.

This beautiful bungalow will not disappoint. Perfect retreat from the world. Ideally situated for beach.

We had a wonderful holiday, was helped by the weather but Ruth and Matthew had thought of everything plenty of games to keep children busy, right by the beach great for surfing

A week at West Holm was just what was needed. The bungalow is in a quiet location, just a few minutes from the beach and SW Coastal path. It is extremely well-equipped with a very nice welcome box of goodies on arrival. Spotlessly clean and comfortably furnished, the bungalow also has a range of DVDs and games (indoor and garden) available if needed. The TV is FreeSat enabled and comes with a basic Netflix and Amazon Prime facility. Wi-Fi proved to be reliable and efficient. A pack of local maps (including up to date Ordnance Survey Landranger and Explorer editions) was really helpful. Someone came, whilst we are out, to cut the grass and clear fallen palm leaves. The property manual contains tips and suggestions on what to see, visit, where to eat etc. Our weather wasn't perfect during our week, but good enough for what we wanted to do - headland walks from Widemouth Bay, Bude, Duckpool and Boscastle, plus walks along the Bude Canal and at Tamar Lakes. All in all, a great place to stay and we wouldn't hesitate to recommend it to others.

Would loved our stay at West Holm such a welcoming and comfortable holiday home, a lot of care and attention in every way had been taken thank you

Lovely relaxing place in a perfect location. Really well equipped and an amazing welcome gift box on arrival, the best we've ever had. We enjoyed our say so much we've booked to go again in October. Would definitely recommend West Holm.

Had a wonderful 5 night stay here as soon as the lockdown restrictions were lifted. Every thing was spotlessly clean and had a wonderful fresh smell which is so nice to arrive in. This place is in an absolutely perfect position, with the Ocean peeping over the hillside at the end of the lane and stunning scenery only minutes from the door. The place itself is modern bright and fresh and full of pretty décor that gave you that holiday feel! The kitchen was a lovely and garden was a perfect sun trap! Visited Bude, Boscastle and Tintagel and had ice creams at the beach every day. Lovely welcome basket as well and card from owner which was very thoughtful and appreciated and set the tone for a brilliant holiday. This was exactly what we needed after the long hard winter lockdown. Even the teenager approved and we know how hard they are to please! We didn't want to leave and we will definitely be back! Thanks to Aspects and the owners for giving us this uplifting holiday that was so much needed!

This is a lovely Bungalow in a prefect location. We have stayed there a few times and just love it.

We stayed at West Holm for a week in September and had a relaxing and enjoyable break. The house is a very short walk from the beach at Widemouth Bay and a 5 mile drive into Bude for the beach, shops and restaurants. West Holm is a fantastic house which can be enjoyed in all weathers. We had very hot days where we used the garden; and wet, windy days where we were cosy and enjoyed being indoors. On a good day try the walk into Bude along the coastal path and then back again along the canal and across fields - 7 miles but a fine walk with plenty of places to stop and eat and drink.

We had a wonderful stay at West Holm with the property exceeding all of our expectations. We couldn’t have asked for more.

We had a wonderful week at West Holm, in a great location minutes from the sea, beautifully decorated, very well laid out and kitted out with everything you could possibly need.

We had a brilliant week - should have stayed two. The house is just right for a couple or family. There were four of us two adults and two teenagers, they put up with sharing for a week. The house has everything you need and is very comfortable especially the beds. Locally the beach is literally a few mins from your door. There is the beach cafe and beach bar in easy walking distance and also a small fresh fish shop which also has basic provisions - bread, milk etc. Just 5-10 mins walk. Bude is about 10mins drive down the coast road and has everything you need shops, cafes, restaurants and takeaways. In these testing times it was great to get away enjoy the beach and fresh air, eat some good food and just relax in a safe and clean environment. Thank you.

Lovely cottage. Very comfortable and a great location. Would definitely recommend it.

We've stayed in a different cottages in Cornwall but this one is really the best. Absolutely loved everything in there. Such a modern and cosy place to stay. Enjoyed having dinner in the garden, so peaceful and relaxing, loved the floor covering bathroom and shower. Amazing! Kids loved to be in there room, beds are comfortable. A big thank you and we'll be back.

A very well equipped and comfortable house with everything one could wish for. Enjoyed sitting out in the peaceful garden and watching the wild life fly by. Also enjoyed strolls and walks along the beach and cliffs at Widemouth Bay and Bude.

West Holm was clean and bright. Very well equipped everything you could need and more and of a good quality, even down to the garden furniture. Lovely touch of welcone basket. Easy walking distance of the beach. Best cottage we have stayed in and would not hesitate to come back and would recommend to friends and family.

A great place to stay at west holm, only minutes from the beach and a short drive to Bude town.

Very relaxing and plenty of places to visit in the area or just walk along its many trails for breathtaking views and scenery.

The Brown family.

Great situation, loved being able to walk to the beach. Very well equipped, clean and comfortable and the welcome groceries were a nice touch.

The best property we have stayed at, the owners thought of everything and the welcome hamper was exceptional and a lovely surprise the property was imactulatly clean and comfortable. We can't wait to book again later in the year.

Great accommodation - well proportioned, clean, comfortable and very well equipped. Everything worked, including the wi-fi (which is of critical importance to my two sons... .). The location was really good, quiet but very close to the beach and a great cafe. The garden and the large conservatory were lovely, the latter was great when the weather wasn't good. Difficult to find fault in anything.

Really impressed with West Holm. Owners have thought of everything you could possibly need, we had a great time with the garden games. The welcome pack was very generous. Overall a fantastic stay. Thank you!

West Holme is home from home. The best home we have stayed in - in Cornwall so far. Will return without a doubt. Very impressed! Thank you.

Great location. Loved the welcome box of goodies. Excellent decor

First class 5 star bungalow in all respects. Has to be the best rented property we have ever been to. Thoughtful extras are in abundance, especially the welcome hamper with a bottle of wine, coffees, teas, snacks etc.

Lovely property and well placed for the beach Would definitely return again

Lovely property, beautifully & comfortably furnished. Welcome hamper was very thoughtful. Enjoyed our stay at the property very much.

West Holm is a well equipped clean and well presented property The beds were extremely comfortable with appropriate bedding for the cooler nights of October The owners had given much thought to equipping the accomodation for both families and couples We really enjoyed our stay and would definitely consider staying again

Ideal location for walking and all water sports fantastic coast line. Highly recommend this property to any one Brilliant.
