August 2023

Absolutely lovely house, had a lovely week with our 3 granddaughters ages 3, 7 and 10, to be honest we spent most of the time we spent in the house in the kitchen, lovely island where we all sat together to eat, very social area with 2 sofa’s and large bi-fold doors leading onto a lovely patio , unfortunately the weather wasn’t kind to us and we only sat out once while we were there. But still managed to have a great week. The only thing we found very frustrating was we struggled to get a table booked in most of the local restaurants. Maybe look at booking a few before you arrive

Holidays in Bude

Carrying the title of Cornwall’s northern-most coastal town, Bude is perfectly placed to enjoy some of the north coast’s beautiful beaches and coastal walks.

Bude has so much to offer when it comes to things to do, including a fabulous town with a wide selection of independent shops, cafés, and restaurants – not to mention the wildest live music venue in Cornwall. In addition, visitors can meander along Bude Canal, stretch out on one of the many beaches, or enjoy a gentle cruise in a pedal boat or kayak, observing the beautiful area from a different angle. The town is home to the historic Bude Sea Pool and The Castle Bude, both a must if you are in the area.

For those who enjoy walking, the South West Coast Path can be easily accessed from Bude. You’ll be blown away by the stunning scenery and breathtaking views along the coastline – it’s also a great dog-friendly day out!

With so much on the doorstep, it’s the perfect destination for a holiday by the sea!

Top tip

Take a dip in the historic Bude Sea Pool at Summerleaze Beach!

Beaches in Bude

Each with its own character and charm, the beaches in Bude are great whether you’re a swimmer, surfer or sand-snoozer.

Summerleaze Beach – Boasting the iconic sea pool, and only a five-minute walk from the centre of Bude, Summerleaze Beach is Bude’s central hub of sand, surf, and sun. Clean, safe, and easy on the eye, Summerleaze Beach is a big hit with surfers, sun-bathers, and families. However, it’s the sheer variety of activities that mark Summerleaze as arguably one of the best beaches in Cornwall for outdoor pursuits and watersports so definitely swing by if you love a hands-on holiday.

Crooklets Beach – At low tide, you’ll find a huge expanse of golden sand along with lots of rockpools to explore, making it very popular with families. There’s also decent surf and lots of amenities nearby including a beach café for those all-important ice creams and even a skate park.

Widemouth Bay Beach – Stretching across one and a half miles of golden sands, Widemouth Bay is divided into two halves, the North beach and the South beach, separated by a natural barrier of rock known as Black Rock. As the tide retreats, amazing rock formations are exposed - perfect for rockpooling and getting back to nature!

Northcott Mouth Beach – Three miles North of Bude is the small rocky beach Northcott Mouth, which is owned by the National Trust. As the tide drops, the beach opens up to expansive sand with rockpools dotted all around - perfect for exploring with the dog all year round.

Bude Castle

Ordinarily, a castle built on the sand might not seem like the best idea, but Bude Castle has really stood the test of time! Built around 1830, the castle was formally the home of Victorian inventor Sir Goldsworthy Gurney. It’s now a heritage centre with lots of fascinating exhibitions and art galleries, making this impressive feat of architecture an interesting day whatever the weather.

Bude Sea Pool

Opened in 1930, this partially man-made tidal swimming pool in the rocks of Summerleaze beach provides a lovely, safe place to swim, perfect if you’re not ready to swim in the sea. The pool is open all year round, but of course, it depends on the tide and weather, so always check before heading out.

Based near Summerleaze beach, Bude Surfing Experience provides water sports equipment hire and watersports lessons so you can hit the waves running as you try your hand at surfing and stand-up paddleboarding!

You’ll also find popular big names from FatFace to Ann’s Cottage, which houses all the top surfing brands.

Walks

With lots of stunning walks in and around Bude, walkers will be spoilt for choice when it comes to scenic routes. Head out onto the South West Coast path for dramatic coastal paths or head inland and explore the many walkways, which take you across crisscrossing fields, through woodland trails and even past Bude’s historic aqueduct.

Dining Out

After a day frolicking in the sea, we often find ourselves in need of a big feed, which is perfect when you’re surrounded by all the great places to eat in Bude. The Grange is a very good holiday home. It is on the outskirts of Bude and a 10 minute walk to the centre, 20 minutes via the canal. Several beaches can also be reached by foot and the coast path is close by, it is ideally situated. There was plenty of space for the family and the house was very well equipped and comfortable. There are lots of beaches to choose from locally and we made easy day trips to The Eden Project, Rock/Padstow, Clovelly and walked the coastal path from Hartland Quay. A great holiday.

The Grange is a fantastic property perfectly suited for 8 people. Beautiful kitchen with bifold patio doors onto a lovely outside area, there is a dining room if the weather is not so good, and a lovely living room to relax in at the end of the day. It is ideally located for walking into Bude, especially along the canal if you want a more scenic route. I almost don't want to leave an excellent review as would like to book here again and so don't want it to become fully booked lol. The property has everything you need to be able to enjoy your stay and be very comfortable. Lovely quiet setting with excellent off road parking. Fabulous and would love to live in this home. Thank you for our wonderful stay.

Beautiful home - spacious, well furnished yet inviting and comfortable for us and our two dogs to enjoy. Thank you - we’ll be back

Lovely house, spacious with a fantastic kitchen area that opens up onto a patio, great views overlooking the countryside and canal. Within walking distance of Bude centre. The house itself is equipped with everything you need to enjoy a relaxing family break. We had a couple of issues that were resolved quickly - would highly recommend.

Lovely holiday spent in a well equipped family house which is situated in walking distance of Bude. Fab cycle/walking paths and ideally placed to use the canal to paddle to Bude.

Lovely, spacious house in a great location, with enough parking for 4 cars, just 10 minutes walk by the road, or 30 minutes along the quieter canal route. The views from the terrace are beautiful. The kitchen was very well equipped and our kids loved the reclining sofas and chairs, one each. Will recommend to friends and family.

Beautiful property in perfect location. Nice walk along canal into Bude. Weather could have been better but didn't dampen our spirits. Local takeaways and pubs and restaurants close by. Enjoyed by us all old and young. Would definitely recommend.

A lovely spacious house which was very comfortably furnished and tastefully decorated. It was spotlessly clean and well equipped. The garden was enclosed for the dogs. Situated in a quiet location, very close to Bude, with beautiful walks across the downs (a couple of steep hills) on the doorstep and the canal path just a short walk away ( hilly coming back)! The house wanted for nothing, we loved it!

Lovely house in a great location, easy walk along the canal path into Bude. Plenty of space for an extended family. Would definitely recommend.

We absolutely loved our stay at The Grange. The house is lovely and spacious and well equipped with everything you’d need. The location is perfect. Peaceful views across the countryside but within walking distance of Budes town centre and amazing beaches. We wouldn’t hesitate to recommend this property and Aspect Holidays and hope to return soon

One of the best houses we have visited in Cornwall ! It's luxurious, spotlessly clean, very comfortable furniture & beds. Amazing shower, everything is just spot on. Dogs are very well catered for, with doggy towels, water bowl, doggy waste bags etc... & my 2 were thrilled with the xmas stockings under the tree, along with gifts for us, very nice gesture. The garden is very secure for the dogs, the owners really have made this property something special. We would def like to visit again !!

Had the most perfect week at the grange. All we needed for our half term break. Very relaxing and homely. Perfect location.

Very nice property in a good location. would visit again

We really enjoyed our stay at The Grange. Lovely spacious house with a homely feel. Quiet location with lovely views from the back garden. All kitchen equipment you could think of and needed was provided. The ice-maker certainly helped on the hot days we had. Easy access to Town Centre and beaches whether you were driving or walking. (It was a 5 minute drive or a 20 minute walk). We personally loved our daily walks along the Canal with our dogs. We would certainly recommend this house, it is lovely.
