Number Five Canalside is a beautiful holiday home, set in an ideal location, just a few minutes' walk from Bude town centre where you will find a variety of restaurants, cafes, shops and the larger beaches of Summerleaze and Crooklets. The location here is just perfect for everyone, ideal for easy strolls to the beach, the town and pretty walks along the canal, with the nature reserve, golf, tennis, squash courts, bowling green, the museum, art galleries, all providing lots to see and do. The apartment is situated adjacent to the Bude Canal so it is perfect for paddle boarding from the private decking area, fishing, and walking into town or along the canal. Just a stone's throw away, you will find two pubs and all the cafes, eateries and workshops dotted along the Lower Wharf, there is even a floating café to enjoy a coffee and brunch. There are also many places to visit by car such as Hartland, Clovelly, Boscastle, Tintagel and Padstow all of which are well within an hour's drive. Holidays in Bude

Bude is a coastal town in the north of Cornwall, situated at the mouth of the river Neet. There are a number of excellent beaches in and around the town, such as Summerleaze and Crooklets, as well as Widemouth Bay a little further south.

Bude has so much to offer, including a fabulous town with a wide selection of independent shops, cafes and restaurants. In addition, visitors can meander along Bude Canal, or enjoy a gentle cruise in a pedal boat or kayak, observing the beautiful area from a different angle. The town is home to the historic Bude Sea Pool and The Castle Bude, both a must if you are in the area. 

For those who enjoy walking, the South West Coast Path can be easily access from Bude, head south in the direction of Crackington Haven or North towards Morwenstow. You’ll be blown away by the stunning scenery and breathtaking views along the coastline.

With so much on the doorstep, it’s the perfect destination for a holiday by the sea!

Beaches in Bude

Crooklets Beach

At low tide, a large expanse of golden sand is exposed, along with rocky outcrops which are great for rock pooling. The beach can be reached by a short walk over Summerleaze Down or down the hill from the town centre. Crooklets is very popular with surfers, but also perfect for families, with great facilities including a large car park, beach café, skate park, showers, and pubs close by. Dogs are welcome on this beach except between 15th May and 30 September, 10am to 6pm when a seasonal dog ban is in place.

Summerleaze Beach

Boasting the iconic Sea Pool, and only a five minute walk from the centre of Bude, Summerleaze Beach is Bude’s central hub of sand, surf and sun. It’s the first port of call for many visitors. Clean, safe and easy on the eye, Summerleaze Beach is a big hit with surfers, sun-bathers and families. However, it is the sheer variety of activities that mark Summerleaze as arguably one of the best beaches in Cornwall for outdoor pursuits and water sports. Dogs are welcome but must be on leads from 21st May to 30th September from 10am-6pm.

Widemouth Bay Beach

Stretching across one and a half miles of golden sands, Widemouth Bay is divided into two halves, the North beach and the South beach, separated by a natural barrier of rock known as Black Rock. As the tide retreats, amazing rock formations are exposed - perfect for rock-pooling!

Northcott Mouth Beach

Three miles North of Bude, is the small rocky beach Northcott Mouth, owmed by the National Trust. As the tide drops, the beach opens up to expansive sand with rock pools dotted all around - perfect for exploring. Dogs welcomed all year round. 

Sandymouth Beach

Four miles North of Bude is the National Trust beach, Sandymouth. Backed by sweeping cliffs, this large sandy beach is popular all year round, especially with dog owners as it welcomes dogs year round.

Things to do in Bude

Bude Castle

A castle built on sand! Built around 1830, the castle was formally the home of Victorian inventor Sir Goldsworthy Gurney. It is now a heritage centre with exhibitions about Bude and Sir Goldsworthy Gurney.

Explore the surroundings of Bude on two wheels. A good selection of bikes are available for hire which suit all ages and most abilities.

Bude Sea Pool

Opened in 1930, this partially man-made tidal swimming pool in the rocks of Summerleaze Beach provides a lovely, safe place to swim when the sea is rough, or when it’s calm! The pool is open all year round, but of course depends on the state of the tide!

Surfing and watersports

Based near Summerlaze beach, Bude Surfing Experience provide water sports equipment hire and water sports lessons. Why not give surfing or stand up paddle-boarding a go?

Alternatively, Freewave Surf Academy at Widemouth Bay offers surfing, coasteering and SUP lessons, whilst Big Blue Surf School offers a range of surfing lessons, from complete beginners to advanced.
