September 2024

The blue door barn is a gorgeous little property, ideal if you're after a quiet getaway away from the hustle and bustle. The property was everything we hoped for....clean, well equipped and ideally located for the attractions we wanted to visit, the owner introduced himself when we arrived and was very friendly and if we had any problems not to hesitate to contact him. We couldn't fault the property at all and would definitely recommend it, the only downside was after a week when we had to vacate it to travel home!!!!

Holidays in West Cornwall

There is almost an embarrassment of riches for the visitor to choose from when looking at holiday cottages in West Cornwall. With its extraordinary variety of landscapes and coastline, as well as its proud history and cultural heritage, you won't be disappointed.

With many superb beaches to enjoy, including five with the coveted Blue Flag status, it is easy to see why so many people associate this part of the world with sun, sea, sand and, of course, surf. There is, however, so much more on offer when contemplating self catering holidays in West Cornwall.

West Cornwall is home to popular destinations such as MarazionPenzanceCarbis Bay and St Ives, which are all worth a visit. From the iconic St Michael's Mount to the breath taking Minack Theatre as featured in our blog, you wont be short of things to do while self catering in West Cornwall.

Things to do in West Cornwall

Days out

With such an abundance of stunning sights in West Cornwall, you'll be spoilt for choice when choosing where to visit while holidaying here. St Michael's Mount, The Minack Theatre, and St Ives harbour are just a few of the enthralling places on offer. The many golden sandy beaches that West Cornwall boasts are perfect for topping up the tan. For something a little more energetic, boat trips, fishing excursions and water sports are available. Museums and art galleries provide an equally enjoyable day out, with world famous exhibitions at the Tate St Ives and the Barbara Hepworth museum within easy reach.

With the bustling coastal towns of St Ives, Mousehole and Marazion within close proximity of one another, you can be sure to find somewhere to provide everything you need to the perfect family day out.

Walking

Cornwall's spectacular scenery provides the perfect backdrop for exploring. The coastal paths which hug the rugged cliffs offer breath taking sea views, while walking inland you can enjoy the many nature reserves, ancient stone circles and woodland, for which Cornwall is renowned.

Art & heritage

Famous for its quality of light, the area has long been a haven for artists and there are many galleries to be found wherever you go. There are also many gardens to enjoy; the mild climate will often let plants flourish here which you won’t find anywhere else in the country. For those wanting to dig a little deeper, there is also an amazing mining and maritime heritage which has done much to shape the county and its people as well as, it could be argued, the rest of the world.

Another lovely stay at Blue Door Barn. The property was clean, comfortable and welcoming. We had everything we needed.

We had a perfect time away in Blue door barn it was so relaxing peaceful and quiet, even the lane wasn't as bad as we thought it would be.

Gorgeous place to stay, very central for getting around. The hosts are very welcoming. Be prepared for a very bumpy ride down to the accommodation!

We are so pleased to hear that you had a great stay at Blue Door Barn. Tucked away in a tranquil part of St Erth, the property provides a peaceful hideaway for two. We try to make it as clear as possible that the property is accessed by a narrow unmade lane, and that this may be unsuitable for some vehicles, though if you have any questions before booking please do get in touch and we'll be happy to help. With St Erth train station just a couple of miles away, why not explore the other gems West Cornwall has to offer, with St Ives and Penzance just a quick train journey away! Katy, Customer Services.

Blue Door Barn is the perfect property for a couple seeking a peaceful retreat in beautiful surroundings. At the end of a very quiet country lane but within a short drive of both St Ives and Penzance the property is beautifully appointed with a lovely small outside patio for eating and drinking and very comfortable bed and sofas. Excellent use of space has been made inside to make sure that you don't feel that you're in nearly as small a property as it looks from the outside. The owners are very friendly and on hand and we couldn't have wished for a more relaxing break.

A beautiful secluded barn away from the madding crowd. Has everything you need and is really comfortable

Blue Door Barn, is set in a very quiet countryside setting. It is well set out and has a very cosy feel, perfect for 2. With a car all main tourist places, St Michaels Mount, Lands End, St Ives etc are within half an hour drive. We had a lovely time and will definitely returning at some point in the future.

Blue Door is very comfortable and is equipped with everything one may need. The situation is almost remote, and the track leading from the public road is OK for vehicles except low 'sports' cars. Country walking is the special feature here and a large scale map is necessary. Supermarkets are some miles away and to visit other Cornwall attractions pubs and restaurants will involve much driving.

Great holiday destination..owners very welcoming and helpful..will definitely go back

Blue Door Barn was the perfect base for this area of Cornwall. Short drive to everywhere. Would definitely stay again.

Very pleasant stay and Barn was in a super location. A cosy, comfy and well equipped little cottage. Owners to hand and extremely welcoming and friendly…thank you for the bottle!??

Blue Door Barn is too isolated with poor vehicular access. The internet connection is poor and sporadic. The mattress is far too soft for comfort. Thank goodness for Sky TV when the weather is too bad to go outside. The owners are friendly & helpful and their dog Louie is lovely.

We were sorry to read that this property was not right for you. We try to make it clear within the website opening paragraph, photos and map that is included on the property page, that it is in a rural location, down a long, unmade, private lane. This location may not be everyone's choice, particularly if you want to be close to the hustle and bustle of towns, but for those who want a peaceful rural retreat, this property is the perfect choice. The owners have put a lot of thought into it, to try and ensure that guests have everything they need for a relaxing break, though it can of course be very difficult to find mattresses that will suit everyone's taste, so we were sorry to read that this was not to your preference. Whilst properties in rural locations can find their wifi service and phone signal a little less reliable, this isn't something that has been reported to us before, so we will monitor this and follow up with the owners if there are further reports. Thanks for letting us know. Tanya, Customer Services

A good little getaway in a good quiet location. It will require a car to get to. Has everything you need for a weeks stay.

This lovely converted barn is ideally located about midway across the toe of Cornwall between Mazarion in the south and Hayle in the north coast, and the towns of Penzance and St. Ives are within easy reach. St Ives having direct rail and bus services from the town of St.Erth. The barn is in a very pleasant spot, sitting just across a courtyard from the home of the farm owners. There is ample space for parking, which is handy as the access to it is along a 500 metre long narrow lane from a regular Cornish country road. Blue Door Barn itself is charming. It is well laid out, comfortable and well equipped. It has good cooking facilities, a dishwasher and Sky TV plus there is a small patio and barbecue that can be area accessed from the bedroom which has the sun for most of the day and where you can chill undisturbed if you wish. A nice place for a quiet romantic break.

Blue Door Barn was the perfect property for our holiday. It was clean, well maintained and had all the essentials we needed. Home from home in a lovely location.

Friendly welcome from property owners.

Peaceful location.

Very good property all-round.

Bottle of chilled champagne in fridge ready was nice.

Wonderful place to stay, cosy, warm and welcoming. Owners are lovely and their dog is fab too. A real country retreat and just the place to unwind.

Brilliant property for a quiet break, perfect location. Lovely hosts, Hope to be back next year John and Sheryl

Just spent a lovely week at the Blue Door Barn. The barn conversion is very good. Location is perfect for a nice relaxing time. Access to the property a little daunting but expected as the barn is tucked away. A good holiday, well worth the long journey.

Beautiful idyllic holiday, accommodation was very comfortable, the hosts were lovely and very helpful would definitely stay here again.

The blue door barn was very well equipped, very clean and very pretty. The track leading down to the property is steep and very narrow but was better when it was all cut back on our last day.

Blue door barn is a lovely place to stay, very clean and comfortable, nicely decorated and furnished Very quiet and relaxing, This was a second visit and would definitely return again.

This property is a picture-postcard barn conversion perfect for a couple who are either very happy to self-cater in the evenings or alternatively are happy to drive to get to restaurants etc. There is a quite a narrow, steep track to access the property. The barn is in a really quiet, country location. The hosts live on site in the adjacent buildings and are lovely. They only bother you if you've asked for assistance with something. The property is full of great little touches and the owners have really thought about how to maximize the available space. The outside area is a quite small and unfortunately looses the sun early in the evening. We weren't unfortunatley blessed with the best weather during our stay but there are books, a puzzle and a Sky Box to entertain you! You will be within easy reach of some great walking - particularly coastal walks - and also some lovely hostelries - we particularly enjoyed the food at the Victoria Inn in Perranuthnoe.

A great location for a peaceful stay. Hosts were considerate and helpful. I would have no hesitation in booking again.

The property was well equiped and modern with good heating and plenty of hot water. However we did not find the bed comfortable it is very soft so did not sleep well. Although the heating was good the property felt damp and some evidence of mould on the walls in bedroom. The location is very quiet and peaceful. However the footpath to the river in the description is not accessible there is no safe pleasant walk from the property given the nature of the roads.

Thank you for your review. We were glad to see that you found the property to be well equipped and modern. We were sorry to see that you found the mattress to be too soft for your liking, they can be a tricky thing to get perfect for everyone, as everybody has different tastes when it comes to mattresses, but we will certainly monitor any future feedback we may receive about this. We do apologise if there had been signs of damp and mould. With the traditional materials used in a lot of buildings here and Cornwall being more humid and close to the sea, properties can be more susceptible to damp, especially when compared to more modern buildings. This is not something that we have had reported at this property before, so hopefully should be something that can easily be rectified; thank you for bringing this to our attention. Unfortunately, the local government have had to temporarily close the mentioned footpath due to landslides and we have removed this from the description until this has been made safe and reopened by the local authorities. We hope that you still enjoyed it here and that you'll return to Cornwall again soon. Ben, Customer Services

Lovely property everything was very good.
