Book

You know you are arriving somewhere extraordinary as you turn down the country lane and first glimpse the magnificent views across rolling countryside down to the sea! One of our absolute favourites, superlatives are not enough to portray this magical barn conversion sat within utterly idyllic private gardens in an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty. Songbirds is most definitely a place to say goodbye to the hectic world and escape in total privacy surrounded by an oasis of nature. Painstakingly restored this barn is sat within secluded grounds of a sixteenth century farmhouse and although off the beaten track every modern luxury has been thought of. Think hand built kitchens, luxury bathrooms, oversized sofas and sumptuous beds.

Open up the doors from the large living spaces to the terraces and look out on your own little paradise where there is even a petanque pitch to while away the afternoons. We can't talk about Songbirds without mentioning the gorgeous beaches and coves stretching all along the breath-taking coastline in this stunning part of Cornwall so take your pick. If feeling energetic leave the car behind and take a winding stroll straight from your doorstep through woodlands and fields and end up at Millook Haven a firm favourite with the local surfers. Songbirds complete with a firepit, barbeque and Pizza oven is the perfect place to unwind after a day on the beach cooking up a feast as the sun comes down on this little piece of heaven. The owners have even created a vegetable plot for guests where you are free to take your pick in season. At the bottom of the garden a peaceful spot to enjoy your morning coffee is the decked terrace overlooking the large pond where you can take in the morning chorus. Don't forget your camera and binoculars either as Songbirds is a real haven for wildlife lovers with red deer, otters and stoats as well as numerous bird species regularly visiting the area.

Beaches in Bude

Crooklets Beach

At low tide, a large expanse of golden sand is exposed, along with rocky outcrops which are great for rock pooling. The beach can be reached by a short walk over Summerleaze Down or down the hill from the town centre. Crooklets is very popular with surfers, but also perfect for families, with great facilities including a large car park, beach café, skate park, showers, and pubs close by.

Summerleaze Beach

Home of the famous Bude Sea Pool, and only a five minute walk from the centre of Bude, this is a firm favourite among locals and visitors. It’s also great for surfing!

Things to do in Bude

Bude Castle

A castle built on sand! Built around 1830, the castle was formally the home of Victorian inventor Sir Goldsworthy Gurney. It is now a heritage centre with exhibitions about Bude and Sir Goldsworthy Gurney.

Bude Bike Hire

Explore the surroundings of Bude on two wheels. A good selection of bikes are available for hire which suit all ages and most abilities.

Bude Sea Pool

Opened in 1930, this partially man-made tidal swimming pool in the rocks of Summerleaze Beach provides a lovely, safe place to swim when the sea is rough, or when it’s calm! The pool is open all year round, but of course depends on the state of the tide! www.budeseapool.org
