This property is fabulas location, location location 5 star. The small village is walking distance to Penzance, however newlyn has some nice local bars and restaurants. Even during this difficult time of covid 19, we ate out every evening sometimes during day. Every place we ate was beautiful. Seafood restaurants amazing. Views were breathe taking walking or just looking out if window. You can drive to lots of other picturesque views. Property fantastic. We will be back and have already recommended to our friends and family. We live 8 hours away by car, worth the drive just fabulous.

Experience the buzz of a thriving, hardworking harbour and taste the freshest fish on offer in Cornwall. The harbour is overlooked by white washed and granite Cornish fisherman’s cottages interwoven by narrow lanes and cobbled alleys often too steep or narrow for a car so all you will find is the odd cat basking in the sunshine. Enjoy the buzz of Newlyn’s working harbour, visit Newlyn Art Gallery or the wonderful established gardens with breath-taking views across to the iconic Penzance Jubilee Pool.
The Newlyn School is a group of artists who came to live and work in Newlyn or the surrounding area between the 1880s and the early twentieth century. They painted en plein air (in the open air). Perhaps best known are: Stanhope Forbes, Elizabeth Forbes, Walter Langley, Harold Knight, Laura Knight, Harold Harvey. There is much documentation about the school at Penlee House.
The collection is kept at Penlee House rather than the Newlyn Gallery because Newlyn Gallery maintains a tradition of showing modern art.
Newlyn Gallery & Exchange Gallery in Penzance Town Centre host the best of conceptual and modern art. Together with St. Ives Tate and Penlee House the four galleries host major national and international exhibitions, as well as showing the work of the Newlyn School of Art, who offer a wide range of high quality art courses run by some of the most exciting artists in the region. Read more about art classes at Newlyn school of art on our blog. Thus the area which has inspired so many artists celebrates its artistic heritage while maintaining strong links with the art world of today.
While self catering in Newlyn, why not leave the car behind and take the gorgeous mile-long walk along the promenade to the famous harbour town of Penzance. With the backdrop of Mounts Bay, St Michael’s Mount glistens in the distance, with the Isles of Scilly just a short boat trip away. To indulge your inner shopperholic you'll find a whole host of shops in the town centre. Our tip would be to pay a visit to the famous Chapel Street for some great independent shops - and then relax in one of the town’s many cafes and bars.
Trereife Manor House & Gardens
Located on the outskirts of Newlyn, Trereife Estate offers a great day out, with a centuries old manor set amongst beautiful gardens. Stop off at the Stableyard Cafe for a quick bite or cup of coffee after a day at the beach, or enjoy the stunning surroundings at your own pace. Well worth a visit on a sunny day.

The tradition of Tom Bawcock comes from the feast or famine lifestyle of Cornwall. The story goes that it was just before Christmas; there had been no fish for weeks, the boats couldn’t get out into the raging storm, the village was starving. One man, Tom Bawcock, dared to take his boat out of the harbour’s safety. He returned with enough fish to make fish pie for the whole village.
Today, a festival takes place each year to celebrate Tom Bawcock's bravery. During the festival, Star Gazey pies are eaten in memory of this famous event.

Cawdor House is in a lovely location overlooking the sea at Newlyn, it has everything a family needs for a brilliant stay. We liked the location, it was easy access to the area for sightseeing. An easy walk into Penzance or Mousehole with plenty of eating places in both locations. We were lucky with the weather for September. We love photography and could not have been in a better place, we will come back again.
Mrs Lambeth Sep 2020
Cawdor House is a truly wonderful place to spend a holiday, well maintained, very comfortable and in a perfect location. It has everything you could need for a perfect holiday, so good that we booked again for next year within days of arriving. Highly recommended.
Mr Smith Sep 2020
Delightfully comfortable house for our family of four. The location couldn’t be any better either right next to the beach, near a playground and very close to plenty of great eateries. We’ll be back!
Mr Lennon Jan 2020
We have thoroughly enjoyed all our holidays with Aspect holidays. All their properties are of an excellent standard and the service they offer leaves nothing to be desired
Mr Lee Nov 2019
We enjoyed our stay at Cawdor House. It is well placed for exploring Newlyn which is a lovely village with a bustling harbour, good pubs and a handy Co-op nearby. We loved exploring the promenade and Penzance and it’s an easy walk to the iconic Lido. Bus links are good if you come without a car. Having the washing machine, freezer and access to the backyard through the cellar may not suit you if you are a bit older.
Mrs Mackinder Sep 2019
Great place to stay, close to everything in the town. Just a stones throw from the very active fishing harbour which is a joy to observe in the evenings. Excellent selection of fishmongers, very good cheese shop and a shop selling freshly made Cornish ice cream on a daily basis. The views from this cottage are a delight. Will definitely visit again.
