Hollydale Cottage
Lamorna

£475 - £1163 per week
Book

As the leaves gently rustle in the cool breeze, the melodious call of birds can be heard. Spend sunny afternoons reading in the dappled shade of Hollydale Cottage's garden, as the power of a good book lets you travel without moving. New to the portfolio in 2024 and loved and cared for by three generations of the same family, Hollydale Cottage has been lovingly restored to become the charming granite cottage it is today. With a carefully considered decor, the nautical theme is a gentle reminder of just how close to the sea you are. Sleeping five, with parking, Hollydale Cottage is a perfect retreat for a family or couple looking to recharge. Nestled within leafy Lamorna, which is a National Landscape (formerly known as an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty), it's easy to see why. Follow the avenues of trees, to the enchanting Lamorna Cove. With a golden sandy beach at low tide, crystal clear waters and a backdrop of rugged cliffs, it almost feels like you are starring in an Enid Blyton's novel. An artist's and avid walker's dream location, there are endless choices for rambles on the coast path or through the picturesque countryside.

After a fun filled day on one of the many nearby beaches, swimming, surfing or orienteering through the woodland, the garden at Hollydale Cottage is the perfect spot for a refreshing glass of pink lemonade before the sun sets. Freshen up for the evening ahead under the invigorating rainfall shower and prepare a mouthwatering supper. Play board games together and when it's time for bed for the little ones, the bunk beds beckon a peaceful slumber after a bedtime story of pirate ship adventures. The comforting, large velvet sofa is the perfect spot to relax and unwind at the end of the day. On the chillier nights, there is nothing more calming than feeling the warmth from the amber flames of the woodburner, with a glass of wine in hand.

Holidays in Lamorna

Lamorna Cove is a beautiful and secluded area of Cornwall sat between the pretty harbour town of Mousehole and the glorious Porthcurno beach. You can walk the coastal path to both of these locations, or if you’re feeling adventurous, walk all the way to Land’s End! Lamorna Cove is the perfect base to enjoy a self catering holiday and to explore the further reaches of West Cornwall.

The cliffs around Lamorna Cove are beautiful. The cove has been known for fishing and quarrying in the past. It was also a haunt for artists such as 'Lamorna Birch', particularly in the 1930s. The Cove also has an arts festival and a flourishing village hall, in which you might see international performers from time to time on the Carn to Cove Rural Touring Circuit. The cove lies at the end of a woodland valley, as does St. Loy, a little further south along the coast.

Top tip

Walk the coast path from Lamorna to Mousehole for some truly breathtaking views!

Things to do at Lamorna

When the tide is out, Lamorna Cove sports a small sandy beach, but its rocky nature means the area is better known for diving and snorkelling. A nearby beach café serves hot and cold snacks or park up and enjoy an ice cream while looking out to sea. In the summer season you can hire motorboats and kayaks or if you’d rather something less active, the blue waters are perfect for bathing. If a day at the beach is your thing, check out our guide to Sandy beaches in West Cornwall for other beaches in the area which are well worth visiting.

With the harbour town of Penzance just a short drive away, there's plenty to keep you entertained on a self catering holiday in Lamorna. For ideas on what to do during your stay with us, check out our blog post on Days out around Penzance.

A trip to the stunning tidal island of St Michaels Mount is a must if you're in the area.

A true story...

A lot of famous people holiday in the hills and coves of Cornwall. In the 1970s, three locals (an out of work actor, a DJ, and a young writer) decided to start a hospital radio station, named Duchy Hospital Radio. They set up in a caravan in a car park behind West Cornwall Hospital in Penzance. The actor and writer were particularly interested in spoken word programmes and secured an Uher, the must-have portable reel to reel audio tech of the day. The actor discovered that a famous person was getting away from it all at Lamorna Cove Hotel.  An interview with George Harrison would get Duchy Hospital Radio noticed! The famous Beatle was only too pleased to help and invited them to join him at the hotel for a cream tea. For an hour or more the actor and writer chatted amiably to George about being famous, hiding away in Cornwall, what the other Beatles were like, and the price of tea and chips. Back in the Duchy Radio caravan, the novice reporters soon discovered that in the excitement of meeting their hero, the actor had forgotten to press ‘Record’!

Hollydale Cottage has been beautifully renovated and felt like a home from home. Thank you!

A beautiful cottage in a lovely peaceful location. Cleanliness and equipment were both first rate. We would not recommend this cottage for more than 2 adults and 2 small children or 3 adults. The sofa only sits 3 at a push and the occasional wooden chair is not suitable to sit comfortably.

Reply from Aspects Holidays

With its 2 bedrooms, including 2 double beds and a single bed, to sleep 5, the owners have tried to offer flexible sleeping arrangements for guests, and whilst it can sleep 5, the seating arrangements and space may not work for all parties of 5. We have tried to show the space and seating/sleeping arrangements as clearly as we can within the website photos and description, so we do hope that this was all as you had expected. Thank you for taking the time to send in your comments and we hope that you enjoyed your time here. Tanya, Customer Services.
