Here you will find a friendly local pub, three cafes offering delicious refreshments and a surf academy. Being just a short drive to the harbour and beach towns of St IvesPenzanceMouseholePorthleven and Marazion, self catering holidays in Gwithian make for a fun packed holiday for all!

Did you know...

Gwithian forms part of a 3 mile long beach that stretches from Hayle Estuary to Godrevy!

Things to do in Gwithian

Surfing

With great surf all year round, it's no wonder it's a popular surf spot with both locals and visitors. Perfect for beginners and advanced surfers, Gwithian is an ideal place to learn and progress. With a local Surf school operating from here, first timers will be up and riding in no time.

Beaches

Gwithian Towans, Hayle Towans and Godrevy offer three miles of golden sands and the most dramatic coastline stretching across to St Ives Bay. At low tide, with such a vast amount of sand, there is plenty of room for everyone – even horses getting their daily exercise. There are large areas of rock pools and intriguing caves which are great for kids to explore. Visit in the evening and you may be treated to a stunning sunset. Read more about Gwithian Towans and other beaches in the area on our blog. It's also worth visiting the rugged cliffs at Hell's Mouth, which is just a 5 minute drive away, where you can park your car for free and enjoy a delicious cream tea in the cafe.

Foraging

Foraging is popular in Cornwall, and Gwithian Towans offers an ideal place to give it a go. Foraging lessons are available, during which you'll discover everything from how to make seaweed crisps, to picking edible flowers. It's certain to be a fun day out for the whole family. Check out our blog post on Wild Food Walks in Cornwall to find out more.

St Gothian Nature Reserve

What was once a commercial sand quarry, this site has since been declared as a nature reserve. The habitat has been improved with the addition of a large pool and other smaller pools which have been fenced off, creating a safe place for wildfowl and waders. Perfect for bird watching. Dog walkers are asked to keep dogs on a lead so as to not disturb the wildlife.

Walking

From Gwithian, you can walk the South West Coast Path all the way to St Ives, and experience some beautiful scenery along the way. Pass through Hayle and Lelant before finally arriving at St Ives Harbour. The walk takes approximately 6 hours so be sure to bring supplies!

What a fabulous cottage, so well equipped, very clean and so comfortable. Lovely touch of a cream tea when we arrived. Trevarnon Cottage is in such a perfect location to visit Gwithian beach, St Ives and all what Cornwall has to offer. Would not hesitate to go back and stay again 10/10

This is our third visit to the cottage and we’d highly recommend it. It’s warm and cosy in winter and close to the wonderful beach at Gwithian for winter walks.

Lovely holiday cottage. Very clean, comfortable and well equipped. Lots of space. Lovely and quiet , close to beautiful beaches and fabulous cliff top walks. Would definitely recommend and would stay again.

Hope you enjoy this cottage as much as we did and please try Trevaskis Farm restaurant which is about 5-10 minutes by car if you want some excellent food. We loved our time here and for being close to many lovely beaches and towns, plenty to do.

Fantastic farmhouse with everything (and more) you could ever need. Beautiful decor and facilities. Every last detail thought of. Lovely touches like the scone jam and cream and stocked fridge. And great owners!

Tregaron Cottage is a fantastic property. Beautiful lay out, decoration, and furnishings. We have stayed in some really lovely places across Cornwall this is far the best. If your thinking of booking, don't hesitate, you won't be disappointed. Great place to stay. As for Aspects, From booking to arrival they are a very easy company to book with. Thank you!

Brilliant accommodation. We would certainly recommend this property.

Trevarnon Cottage is perfectly located for exploring West Cornwall and The Lizard. It was our second stay at the cottage and it was even more well equipped than on our first visit. It is very comfortable, spotlessly clean (including the outside furniture) and extremely homely. The owners were very helpful and quick to respond to and solve a slight problem. We’re already looking to plan a return visit.

This was our first time away with our grandson of 9 months and now crawling. The owners have made a very baby-friendly holiday Let, which we have fallen in love with. Every need was anticipated and cared for, making a trouble-free vacation for my family. The location (not hard to find), is so close to superb beaches, and touring the extreme southwest is perfect. The little touches, such as the welcome Cream tea and essentials on arrival to the wonderful linen and bath towels, made for a most comfortable stay. The House designed to sleep 5 feels like enough living space for 8, and during 'Storm Noah', it felt very cozy and warm. The boot room with the washing machine/dryer is a great addition. My son enjoyed his run each morning around the area, and the nearby cafes were fun for breakfast on the beach. The owners have done a brilliant job at creating a child-friendly haven for a family, and we cannot wait to be able to go back for another holiday at Trevarnon Cottage.

Beautifully clean cottage

Trevarnon cottage is the perfect escape for a Relaxing stay. It's whole Ambiance is so calming and peaceful. We would recommend this Location if you enjoy coastal walking as the Beaches are so close bye. Every Element of this cottage has been perfectly Renovated to a High standard, we especially Loved the Fire place and Log Burner to cosy up next to after a day of coastal walking. Plenty of outdoor space in the summer time to Relax in your own private Garden. If you need a Tranquil Getaway this is your place. We will definitely be Rebooking. Dave (Shropshire)

I really enjoyed my stay a Trevarnon cottage. Was very comfortable and cosy and fabulous location with being just minutes away from the beach. Would definitely stay again.

We would highly recommend this cottage. It was clean, well equipped and the beds were very comfortable.

Peaceful, comfortable and better equipped than anywhere else we’ve ever stayed. More than a holiday let it’s a real home from home with the added bonus of being only 5 -10 mins drive from a beautiful beach and several pubs and shops

Excellently refurbished cottage within easy reach of stunning coastline. Would have no hesitation in returning. Also very nice touch with wine and treats in the cottage on arrival.

Beautiful renovated & presented cottage, spacious bright & airy with lovely furnishings, everything was in pristine condition with plenty of storage. Large pleasant outdoor space with comfortable furniture. Only 5 minutes drive to nearest beach and short drive’s to Hayle & St Ives, good area for walking. Had a great week and thanks to the owners for the wine & goodies, a pleasure to return to after days out. Would love to return again in the future.

Great location for visiting south west cornwall.
