The tradition of Tom Bawcock comes from the feast or famine lifestyle of Cornwall. The story goes that it was just before Christmas; there had been no fish for weeks, the boats couldn’t get out into the raging storm, the village was starving. One man, Tom Bawcock, dared to take his boat out of the harbour’s safety. He returned with enough fish to make fish pie for the whole village.
Today, a festival takes place each year to celebrate Tom Bawcock's bravery. During the festival, Star Gazey pies are eaten in memory of this famous event.

Wonderful property excellent location easy walk into St ives or hop on the train 5 min walk downhill path from fern hill. Lovely sunny patio to sit in and relax with fab views & large shared garden . Apartment had everything needed for our stay, a lovely comfortable bed ,we loved our stay and will return to Carbi bay
Mr Hawkes Sep 2020
This apartment is beautifully furnished with everything in it that you could possibly need. Everything is of good quality. Parking space. Outside decking area with furniture and secure gate. We brought our little dog and this was perfect place for her. There is also a communal garden with table and chairs. Stunning view, would recommend and book again. Our only negative was that there are patio doors in the bedroom and no other windows to open so we found it rather stuffy and there is no fan. Luckily we didn’t have hot weather so we managed. The train station is a short walk and the service into St Ives is brilliant. Also bus stop nearby. We love staying in Carbis Bay as there are so many lovely places to visit not far away. Some nice dog friendly beeches.

It really is a lovely peaceful spot there with gorgeous views, so we are glad that you liked it too! Whilst we have never received feedback to suggest that it is too warm in there during periods of hot weather, if you like to have a window open in your bedroom overnight, this is certainly something that you may want to consider. There is a window (as well as the patio doors) in the living room, which is adjacent to the bedroom that could potentially be left partially opened to allow a bit of airflow at night. We will keep an eye on further feedback, and if guests are finding it too hot, we can always speak to the property owners and suggest a fan in there. Thanks for your helpful comments and we hope to see you back again soon. Tanya, Customer Services
Lovely space for two, comfortable bed and beautiful view, and for the most part of the week, 5 minute walk (very steep on the way back) to the beach.
Miss Whitfield Mar 2020
A wonderful stay in a super location. Well equipped and comfortable.
Mrs Pereira Feb 2020
What a fantastic apartment to call home for a couple of weeks. Furnished to a high standard & very comfortable, the heated floor was a winner for our dog. The apartment was immaculately clean and very well equipped. Close to the coastal path, easy parking with designated parking space and awesome views. We loved our stay and hope to return. Thank you
Ms Brown Jan 2020
Apartment lovely with wonderful views despite our poor weather.
Shopping easy as local Tesco only a short walk away.
Bus services good. St Ives, as always lovely and not too crowded as it was November.
As we travelled by train directions from Carbis Bay railway station would have been helpful. Google maps took us on a difficult path. Found different route which proved much easier

It's great to hear that you enjoyed 1 Fernhill Apartment; the views and location of this property are great aren't they? We're sorry that we hadn't known that you were arriving by train; I can see that you had all of your arrival details sent out a couple of weeks before your arrival, but unfortunately, as standard, these are sent out with the route described as if you are arriving by car. For anyone arriving by train, plane or bus, we are always happy to help provide alternative directions and any information that you may need ready for your arrival. We also highly recommend following described routes rather than using postcodes in google maps or Satnavs which unfortunately in several areas around here, can often take routes that may not be suitable or direct you to a nearby but incorrect road. We're glad that you managed to find it in the end, albeit by a slightly scenic route :-) Tanya, Customer Services
It was a nice well turned out apartment. Close to all shops and main roads to explore the area with ease. There are some nice places to eat near by
