A very well equipped & comfortable property in a superb location less than a minute from the beach. Not able to see the sea from the property but you can hear the waves when stood in the garden. With the Aspects office very local in Mevagissey and a contact number for out of hours we felt help was easily available if needed. Two of our party have knee problems, but the property description clearly stated that there are steps to the front door so we were well prepared. Steps are also clearly signed to warn that they can be slippery when wet so we were extra careful and thankfully no mishaps. We visited The Shack cafe most days by the beach for a delicious pasty lunch whilst looking out over the sea. Being October we couldn’t make use of the wonderful garden with table & chairs but this would be so wonderful in the summer months so we will most definitely to return for a summer holiday!

October 2025

We had a very comfortable stay at Valley cottage. The cottage was as described and was quiet. It was about the right amount of space for three of us plus our dog. We were walking the coastal path between St Mawes and Plymouth so the cottage was a good central base on this stretch of coastline . Being right next to the beach was great for evening and early morning sea dips and paddle boarding. There is a great pub next door which serves lovely food - would highly recommend. It’s a 10 - 15 minute walk to Mevagissey harbour which also has a large selection of cafes and restaurants .

Holidays in Mevagissey

Stay in Mevagissey and you’ll be perfectly placed to explore all that the south coast of Cornwall has to offer. Take a ferry trip to Fowey, visit the Lost Gardens of Heligan or spend a day at the beach at the nearby Pentewan Sands.

Best known for its harbour and fishing boats, Mevagissey still boasts as being part of Cornwall’s thriving fishing industry. Fresh fish can even be bought from the hut on the harbour wall, located a short stroll from the village aquarium, once the lifeboat station. Wander around the harbour area, with its narrow streets, fascinating shops and galleries and recall its smuggling history, or just relax in the bars and restaurants and coves and on nearby beaches.

There is a ferry boat which runs from end of April to beginning of October from Mevagissey to Fowey three or four times a day (don’t miss the return journey!) – journey time about 35 minutes. You may be lucky and spot some playful dolphins!

Valley cottage is a lovely home away from home. Probably not suitable for anyone with mobility issues.

Portmellon is a fabulous little cove within easy walk to Mevagissey (which we did most days to buy Croissants from the bakers). The Rising Sun pub at the end of the lane is brilliant to sit outside and watch the world go by. Ate there once and food was fabulous. The cove is calm and shallow, aside from the spectacular stormy seas that greated us on arrival, but that was amazing to watch. We spent all the calm days in the sea or rock pooling.

Just a lovely break away.

Top tip, don't follow sat nav to get to Portmellon from St Austell. It takes you through Mevagissey, which was interesting in a VW camper!!!!!

We had a wonderful week at Valley Cottage. The property was beautifully presented and cleaned ready for our arrival. There was a lovely little welcome basket full of treats and tea and milk in the kitchen, which was a lovely touch too. We found that all the comforts of home had been thought about; there was plenty of everything that you need. We really couldn’t fault anything. The bedrooms were lovely and comfortable and the lounge and separate TV room meant that there was plenty of downstairs space to relax in after a day of exploring. We were a party of six, three generations of family, and we didn’t feel on top of each other at all. There was plenty of outside space to relax in too. We had wonderful weather so were able to make use of the outside seating areas. The pub at the bottom of the drive is a perfect place to sit with a drink overlooking the bay, and the food was really good - well worth a visit or two…or three. We hired a sea kayak from the beach hut and had taken our own paddle boards. Portmellon beach is just the perfect place to paddle board, and did so most days. All in all we had a wonderful week - we hope to return soon.

We loved our stay in Valley Cottage. House is well equipped with all mod-cons and furnished to a high standard. Kitchen was lovely and bright and airy although the kitchen bit itself is quite small. And we did get a couple of sunny days to make use of the garden area. Close enough to Mevagissey to walk but in a quiet spot very close to a little beach. The pub at the end of the lane was welcoming and the food comes highly recommended. Would definitely stay there again.

A homely feel and a nice location- tucked away from the road but still very close to the beach, pub, the shack coffee shop etc.

Mevagissey also within walking distance for more places to eat, shops and things to do.

The cottage is in a great location near the sea and a nice pub, in walking distance to restaurants and shops in mevagissey. It was spacious with plenty of room for a large family, and there was an enclosed terraced garden for the dog. Unfortunately our stay was tainted somewhat by a moth infestation and the cleaning not being fully up to scratch.

We are sorry to hear you had an encounter with some months during your time away - this is highly unusual however, we were very glad you contacted us at the time so we were able to quickly resolve this for you.

We hope we will be able to welcome you back again int the fututre. Phoebe, Customer Services

we had a wonderful time at the cottage, it's spacious, well equipped, stylish and very close to the beach. It's about 15 min walk away from Mevagissey with its restaurants and shops (and a really good fishmonger). We had a small incident and the Aspects team sorted everything out very quickly, also really appreciated the response by the landlord. Highly recommend this place.

This was a lovely cottage - warm (it was a chilly week!), very comfortable and truly a home from home. We'd have no hesitation in recommending Valley Cottage to friends and family.

Cannot fault Valley Cottage - we utterly loved our stay! Touching distance of the beach and pub in heart of lovely little Portmellon, stunning coastline walks right on your doorstep; 10 min stroll into Mevagissey for crabbing, boat trips and plenty of cafes/restaurants/shops for all tastes. ‘The Shack’ open daily at the bottom of the drive of Valley Cottage offers fresh cakes, Cornish pasties and essentials (great coffee!), as well as sea kayak and SUP/ wetsuit hire - the area is quiet and unpretentious, with so much to do. We hardly needed to use the car whilst there which was wonderful. Thank you for the tips in the welcome pack!

The house is beautifully decorated and immaculate throughout, high standard appliances, furniture & comfy beds - rooms are light, airy, bright & spacious - it was so relaxing that we didn’t miss a thing from home. In fact, you’re lucky we came home - we wanted to stay for good ;)

Thank you for having us, we’ll definitely be back!
