March 2024

Steep cottage is such a gem. Waking up to sea views and watching the working harbour each morning was magical. (Even though it was a working fishing harbour, it was very quiet). Being right on the sea front means no road noise. Visiting the local crepe cafe is a must along with the small shops. Staying in December means it’s quieter and you get to see the beautiful village lit up with Christmas lights which really adds to the magic of this location. The cottage had all the things you needed from fire wood for the fire to coffee pods (and even mince pies). The rooms are surprisingly spacious and are very calming with little homely touches. We enjoyed walking from the cottage along the coast and past chapel point to see seals. Lots of nature on your doorstep here also with a seal in the harbour each day and beautiful wading birds. We loved our short time here and really felt like we were in a magical little bubble.

Holidays in Mevagissey

Stay in Mevagissey and you’ll be perfectly placed to explore all that the south coast of Cornwall has to offer. Take a ferry trip to Fowey, visit the Lost Gardens of Heligan or spend a day at the beach at the nearby Pentewan Sands.

Best known for its harbour and fishing boats, Mevagissey still boasts as being part of Cornwall’s thriving fishing industry. Fresh fish can even be bought from the hut on the harbour wall, located a short stroll from the village aquarium, once the lifeboat station. Wander around the harbour area, with its narrow streets, fascinating shops and galleries and recall its smuggling history, or just relax in the bars and restaurants and coves and on nearby beaches.

There is a ferry boat which runs from end of April to beginning of October from Mevagissey to Fowey three or four times a day (don’t miss the return journey!) – journey time about 35 minutes. You may be lucky and spot some playful dolphins!

Steep cottage is beautiful. Even better than expected. The views from the bedrooms were fantastic and couldn't wait to wake up and harbour watch whilst drinking our coffee in bed. Binoculars were a great touch too. The owners have decorated/renovated to a very high standard and felt honoured to be staying there. Can't wait to book again for next year.
