Holidays in Mevagissey

Stay in Mevagissey and you’ll be perfectly placed to explore all that the south coast of Cornwall has to offer. Take a ferry trip to Fowey, visit the Lost Gardens of Heligan or spend a day at the beach at the nearby Pentewan Sands.

Best known for its harbour and fishing boats, Mevagissey still boasts as being part of Cornwall’s thriving fishing industry. Fresh fish can even be bought from the hut on the harbour wall, located a short stroll from the village aquarium, once the lifeboat station. Wander around the harbour area, with its narrow streets, fascinating shops and galleries and recall its smuggling history, or just relax in the bars and restaurants and coves and on nearby beaches.

There is a ferry boat which runs from end of April to beginning of October from Mevagissey to Fowey three or four times a day (don’t miss the return journey!) – journey time about 35 minutes. You may be lucky and spot some playful dolphins!

Had a great stay, if you have a dog it was good as the garden was enclosed. Very very quiet village but all were welcoming .

We loved our stay in the cosy, comfy Post Box Cottage. It’s a lovely blend of country/ seaside interiors and in a quiet but picturesque village with a great village pub. The welcome gift and dog toy was such a lovely touch and appreciated and we were really happy with Aspects service.

Lovely cottage in a quiet village with a great pub. Parking was easy. Lovely beach at Goran Haven, five miles away

Comfortable cottage with pleasant garden overlooking the village church. Great location, handy for Mevagissey, Lost Gardens of Heligan and quiet beaches. Friendly local pub.

Postbox cottage is perfectly placed to explore everything Cornwall has to offer. The cottage itself has a very warm, homely and welcoming feel to it. The milk, tea, coffee pods and shortbread was a lovely touch. We love that the owner supports local artists and businesses in the area, clearly evident in their choice of the beautiful decor, accessories and furnishings that adorn the cottage. The comfy sofa has been thoughtfully positioned next to the large log burner which at the end of a long day was lovely to return to. The beds were a little too springy for our liking but that is just our personal preference and didn’t hinder our sleep. The garden was a very welcomed outdoor space and definitely has the approval of our dog, along with the log burner! The cleanliness of the property I would rate as satisfactory to good as there were areas that were overlooked and more attention to detail is needed, which I am very sad to say, however these have been reported and hopefully acted upon, as they can be easily rectified. Overall the owner has made this a home from home, to ensure a pleasant stay.

Pros; Log Burner, lovely garden with bistro set & sun loungers, distant views, cosy living room, rustic charm, rural, village setting, lovely local pub.

Cons; Kitchen & shower room were grubby upon arrival, had to clean these in order to use these facilities. Aspects handled this matter well & issued a partial refund. Ironing board fabric was also dirty. Aspects kindly replaced this with a new one during our stay. Shower pressure poor - more of a trickle. Shower cubicle is flimsy & ventilation poor in a room without a window. Shower room & toilet are downstairs whilst bedrooms are on the 1st floor (tricky with night time loo trips). Front door opens right onto the road. We had a power cut from 7pm until midnight one evening & discovered the property had no emergency lighting, not even a candle. Some windows (front) were ill fitting & impossible to open.

Reply from Aspects Holidays

Thank you for your review. The team were already in contact at the time to resolve everything and once again, we are very sorry that the property had not been cleaned to the very high standards that you would expect, and that the ironing board had been left in that condition. This is certainly not what you should expect and that was all fed back to the owner and their housekeeper at the time, to try and ensure that no other guest experiences this. We will closely monitor further feedback on these areas as well as the shower. The pressure is not something that has been mentioned before, but many traditional cottages experience lower pressures than more modern houses, just due to the older plumbing designs in the building, and electric showers do not tend to have the same kind of high pressure as their alternatives, but if we receive further feedback that suggests that it is something more than that, we will get that looked into straight away. We will get the description amended so that it is clearer that the bedrooms are on a different floor to the shower room and speak to the owner about providing a torch or 2, as at least one should have been provided for you. Thank you for bringing these points to our attention. Whilst we are aware that you were understandably disappointed with the cleanliness, we do hope that you still had a great time exploring the area. Tanya, Customer Services

We had a lovely stay at Post Box Cottage, cosy cottage perfectly located in a quiet village but just a short drive to many places of interest in beautiful Cornwall.

Loved this cute little cottage, nestled in the quaint quiet village. Easy 10 min drive to beaches and activities in Cornwall. We felt it was home away form home as all the creature comforts were provided for. I would highly recommend this gorgeous spot.

Cosy and relaxing cottage with a comfy feel. Great location to visit lovely beaches and picturesque fishing villages. WiFi needs an update, although great if you want to switch off completely!

Lovely cosy cottage with a great outdoor space also and nice views over the hills from the Garden.

It’s less than 10 minutes to several lovely coastal bays, beaches and Mevagissey.

You can also cycle many routes from here although quite hilly!
