Our most exciting cottages for kids

When it comes to family holidays, thinking about what will make the kids happy is often a top priority, especially when choosing somewhere to stay. Happy and comfortable children make for a much more relaxing holiday for all!

We've selected some top properties for kids, each with something special we think children will love! There’s something truly magical about seeing their little faces light up with excitement and amazement when arriving at your holiday home.

So, read on to discover some of our most exciting holiday cottages for children...

Surfside, Praa Sands

The room features bunk beds with a bright blue ladder to access the top bunk, and seperate steps to reach the secret room.

Located right next to Praa Sands beach, a glorious stretch of golden sand popular with families, Surfside is a fun seaside retreat for a family of up to six. You’ll be amazed by the interiors inside this otherwise unsuspecting beach house, where quirky features and secret hideaways are waiting to be discovered.

In the bright and colourful open plan living area, a feature staircase leads to a mezzanine level seating area with a porthole window looking out to sea. Kids (approximately 5+) will love climbing the quirky staircase and chilling on the bean bag at the top; there’s also a lightbox for creating a laid-back atmosphere.

Children always relish the moment they enter a holiday home and dash off to find where they’ll be sleeping. It’s these moments that stay with them (and us adults) for years to come. Imagine discovering a room with funky built-in bunk beds (who will claim the top bunk?!) and then realising that the cupboard in the corner is in fact a secret room! Space-saving steps lead to a small doorway opening into the kids’ snug, complete with a sofa, large smart TV and games consol!

Stairgates at the base of both sets of steps provide peace of mind for parents of younger children.

The Pink House, Bude

Four built in cabin style beds are painted in a bright red colour.

Just a short stroll from Crooklets beach, The Pink House is one of four brightly coloured, architecturally designed houses overlooking Summerleaze Downs in Bude; you can’t miss it! As colourful internally as it is externally, it’s ideal for a fun-filled getaway with family and friends.

As the kids explore the three floors, all bursting with colour, they’ll be delighted to find two rooms featuring funky built-in, brightly coloured cabin-style beds, offering an additional element of excitement for siblings, cousins and friends. Two sets of bunk beds are joined in the middle by built-in steps leading to the top bunks. Each of the top beds is accessed via a round hole for the kids to climb through! They’ll have such fun crawling from one top bed, through the portholes and across to the other!

The only question is... who will sleep in the bright green room on the ground floor and who will sleep in the bright red room on the first floor? Both also have direct access to outside, leading to the decking on the ground floor and the balcony on the first floor.

The Farmhouse, Wadebridge

A grass garden has wooden play equipment, a playhouse and outdoor games.

Give the kids a holiday to remember at The Farmhouse near Wadebridge. Set in stunning grounds featuring a football field, woodland area, fishing lake and a smaller enclosed play area in front of the house, it’s a paradise for children.

On arrival at The Farmhouse, you can expect any children in the party to run excitedly from the car, desperate to explore the expansive grounds. Leading directly from the sitting area, kids will love the secure garden complete with wooden play equipment featuring a slide and swings, and a playhouse! The playhouse, with play kitchen, play tool bench and other toys and games guarantees hours of fun, while parents can relax on the garden bench, cuppa in hand. Though be prepared to join in with a game of giant four-in-a-row, Dominoes or Jenga!

Head out together to adventure through the woodland area and down to the lake (please note, children should be supervised by the lake) where you can enjoy a picnic together surrounded by nature, before heading to the football fields for a quick kick-about. Those not playing ball can enjoy gently swinging on the tree swing, watching from afar.

Everyone will be ready for bed at the end of each fun-filled, adventurous day, even if you don’t leave the property.

Captain’s Rest, Porthleven

An aerial shot shows the cottage on one side of the road, and The Hut on the otherside, above the beach.

Captain’s Rest is an enchanting retreat for a family holiday in Porthleven, with a surprise that kids (and grown-ups) will love! Once an old fisherman’s cottage, this quaint home benefits from a separate annexe across the road, which was once a net loft used to house fishing gear. The annexe, known as The Hut, has been beautifully refurbished to create a wonderful sunroom, complete with a patio right above the beach!

Days at the beach will be even more exciting knowing you can nip up to The Hut whenever you like, which is especially convenient as the Cornish weather can be unpredictable. The private, sheltered space is perfect for getting changed, warming up, enjoying a snack and letting the kids rest a while before hitting the sand again. Why not also enjoy a board game together? Of course, Captain’s Rest is also easily accessible from the beach, but The Hut certainly adds an element of fun!

After busy days spent by the sea, kids will love returning to their cosy bunkbeds for a restful night's sleep, once they’ve stopped chatting about the day’s activities!

Blue Waters - Porthmeor, St Ives

A living area with seating has patio doors leading directly onto the beach.

You can’t get much closer to the beach than Blue Waters - Porthmeor, a luxurious retreat nestled right against the sand on Porthmeor Beach in St Ives. Offering direct access to the beach, children will be blown away as you throw open the patio doors to reveal the sand right at your feet!

Set over four floors, there’s lots to explore in this stunning beachside retreat, from the basement level sitting area with direct access to the beach that doubles as a cinema room, to the balcony overlooking the beach.

On sunny days, kids will love being able to run straight out onto the sand, while parents will love the ease of the conveniently located shower room just inside the doorway – perfect for washing off those sandy feet! Effortless beach days await, thanks to being able to pop inside for food, to use the bathroom, to get changed and for when little ones need a rest out of the sun. It’s also super convenient for when the British weather lets us down and clouds sneak overhead, threatening rain.

The basement patio doors that lead to the beach are protected by wooden shutters, which, when closed, block out the light creating the perfect environment for a cinema room! As evening settles in, choose a film, grab the popcorn and settle down for a family film night!

The Lookout, Hawkes Point, Carbis Bay

The train tracks which run in front of the property.

Does your little one love trains? If, like many young boys and girls, your child loves trains, then they’ll be in for a treat at The Lookout, Hawkes Point in Carbis Bay. Perched on the coastline, this stunning property sits just behind the St Ives Branch Line, one of Britain’s most beautiful train journeys.

With trains running between St Erth and St Ives throughout the day, kids will love watching the carriages go by, especially when they’re treated to a toot of the horn from the driver! From the living area and large glass-fronted balcony, you’ll have front-row seats of the train tracks, so sit back and relax as the children eagerly await the next passing train!

Of course, the property itself is a truly special place to stay with luxurious furnishings and breathtaking views.
