Aspects Holidays supports Racehorse Relief

We are delighted to share that we have recently donated £500 to Racehorse Relief, the only accredited racehorse rehabilitation centre in the southwest. Established in 2011, Racehorse Relief rehabilitate, retrain and rehome former racehorses, giving them the chance to have secure and meaningful lives after their career in racing. While some horses go on to have successful second careers in dressage, eventing or racing, others are perfectly content to enjoy the life of a ‘happy hacker’.

As part of a recent appeal to raise funds for their ever-increasing care costs, Racehorse Relief hosted a VIP demo day in June, attended by Martin Clunes! As many will know, Martin (AKA Doc Martin) has a passion for both Cornwall and animals, and offers continued support to Racehorse Relief.

Following a donation towards the appeal, Gemma Taylor and Jenna Ali from Aspects Holidays were thrilled to attend the event. The afternoon showcased the amazing work carried out by the charity, showing the love and care given to these beautiful creatures. After a presentation from Trustee and Chief Executive Jo Massey, guests were treated to a training and riding demonstration in the fantastic indoor school, before being introduced to some of the 29 resident horses.

As part of the experience, Trustee Paul Massey, who is part of Roseland Dog Agility, brought along dog Rocco to demonstrate their agility skills. He kindly invited guests to have a go at the agility course, with some being brave enough to take him up on the offer. The afternoon concluded with cream teas and the chance to chat with other guests, including Martin Clunes!

Chair of the Charity Council for Aspects Holidays, Jenna Ali, commented “It’s incredible that Racehorse Relief is the only rehoming centre for ex-racehorses in the southwest, and to be tucked away in the Cornish countryside is even more surprising. As soon as we saw the fundraiser, we knew we had to donate towards the ongoing costs of running the centre. We were incredibly grateful to attend the open day, it gave us a brilliant insight into the charity and all the amazing work they undertake to improve the lives of these former racehorses. Thanks to the dedicated team at Racehorse Relief, these beautiful horses get the chance to have a truly happy second half of their lives.”

Tiona Anselmi from Racehorse Relief passed on her thanks for the donation: “Racehorse Relief would like to say a huge thank you to Aspects Holidays for their contribution to our cause, we rely on limited industry support, rehoming fees and public donations to run the charity and so we are extremely grateful for the generosity and kindness that has been shown in our recent fundraiser. I enjoyed meeting Jenna and Gemma and not only explaining more about what we do here at Racehorse Relief but also learning more of the charitable mission that Aspects Holidays pursues through supporting the local charities around them. A big thank you to the amazing team for their support and interest towards racehorse aftercare and we hope to stay in touch!”
