Stay in Maenporth and you'll find plenty of beaches to choose from; from the sandy cove in the heart of the village to the nearby shoreline that create Falmouth's beautiful coastline.

Maenporth beach – A secluded beach that is home to still waters, soft sand, watersports, and a delightful seaside cafe, perfect for a family beach days. Surrounded by stunning coast paths boasting breathtaking views across Falmouth Bay.

Swanpool beach – A short drive from Maenporth, Swanpool is another scenic cove, where you'll find pretty scenery, a beachside cafe and action-packed watersports for a fun-filled beach day for everyone. 

Gyllyngvase beach – A little further around the Falmouth coastline, is Gylly beach, perhaps Falmouth’s most popular beach, Gylly beach is home to everything you could want from a hazy day in the sand, offering the perfect conditions for paddleboarding and sea swimming. A beachside café and restaurant serves up delicious treats from breakfast to dinner, as well as those all important ice-creams!

Things to do in Maenporth

There's so much to see and do in and around Maenporth, you'll be spoilt for choice when it comes to planning family days out! 

Watersports

With South Cornwall’s microclimate and sheltered bay, the waters around Maenporth are known for being consistently calm, perfect for trying our the many watersports on offer. Try your hand at everything from kayaking to SUPing, swimming and snorkeling as you swap dry land for the thrill of the Cornish waters. Mix it up and head around to one of Falmouth's beautiful beaches where you can carry on with you ocean adventures.

Shopping

After a shopping trip in Falmouth, you’ll want all highstreets to be lined with cobbles and decorated with colourful bunting – it really does set the scene for a vibrant day out! Falmouth’s shops themselves vary from big names like FatFace and Ann’s Cottage to more niche shops from intriguing antiques to everything Cornwall – perfect for your holiday memento. Oh, and if you have a sweet tooth, you’re going to want to check out Roly’s Fudge Pantry – it’s to die for!

History

A holiday in Maenporth wouldn’t be complete without a trip to Pendennis Castle and the National Maritime Museum – two of the town’s top cultural attractions. Both dive into the history of Falmouth and Cornwall with a definite nautical theme, with Pendennis Castle looking more at defence and the museum exploring the wider culture of life by the sea.

Boat Trips

When you get bored of hard ground beneath your feet, head to Falmouth and set sail up the Fal estuary or along to the Helford river on one of many fantastic boat trips that vary from party boats to sea safaris to meals on keels (sorry, boat puns are a mandatory here).

 

Walks

River walks, coastal strolls and countryside ambles… there’s no limit to what your feet can discover with the many breath-taking walks in and around Falmouth. From Maenporth you are moment from the South West Coast Path for unbeatable coastal views or head further along the coast and take your walk riverside for an idyllic escape to nature. Falmouth’s also home to an impressive collection of gardens, each with their own intriguing collection of paths to explore.

Getting around

When you're staying in Maenporth, the beach, beach cafe and coast path are just a stroll away. To explore further afield, hop in the car and take a short drive into Falmouth. There's also the opportunity for a car-free holiday in Cornwall, with Falmouth's numerous public transport options. Catch the bus or train for connections with the rest of Cornwall or leave dry land behind as you hop aboard a ferry to St Mawes or Truro. Of course, if you fancy visiting via car, you’ll find plenty of parking at one of the town’s many car parks or you can use the park and ride service.
