Holidays in Praa Sands

With one mile of white gold sand, which looks almost tropical in the sunshine, Praa Sands provides an idyllic setting for a Cornish holiday. The beach is ideal for family picnics, sandcastle building, beach games and paddling, and the waves are great for surfers and bodyboarders. Praa Sands beach is surrounded by stunning coastal walks, with breathtaking views of Penzance, Mount’s Bay and The Lizard Peninsula.

Praa Sands’ nine-hole golf course is only minutes away, or for those who prefer a bit of history, Pengersick Castle is a short walk away where there are plenty of stories about the wrecking and smuggling that took place in the bay until the 18th century. Right on the beach is Sandbar, a modern and bright restaurant/bar with magnificent views across the ocean.

Places to visit near Praa Sands

Just seven miles away from Praa Sands is Penzance, a town with an eclectic mix of art studios, historic buildings, well stocked shops and award-winning restaurants. Visiting Marazion is a must when staying here, as the stunning St Michael's Mount found here is just a short drive away. This mystical tidal island provides the perfect backdrop for a walk along Marazion beach and offers an interesting day out. Helston, six miles away, is an ancient market town and gateway to the Lizard peninsulaHayle, also six miles away, has a new, easily accessible out of town retail development together with a dramatic golden sandy beach stretching for three miles to Godrevy Lighthouse. 

There's also plenty of places to eat out at when self catering in Praa Sands. With a selection a great pubs and restaurants in the area you won't be short of places to try out.

Beaches

When staying in Praa Sands, you'll benefit from being a stone's throw from Praa Sands beach. Famed for its white sands stretching almost a mile, this family friendly beach is lifeguarded in summer, and a great place to spend a day in the sun.

Holiday cottages in Praa Sands sit between two other desirable beach locations too; Prussia Cove and Mullion Cove. Like Praa, they are unspoilt and perfect for walking, swimming and sunbathing. Praa Sands is also a very short distance from Porthleven, a picturesque fishing village which has excellent restaurants and is known as a world-class location for experienced surfers.

Hit the beach:

At the heart of Praa Sands is its beautiful beach, perfect for days spent relaxing on the sand, rock-pooling, swimming, and surfing. With a cafe, shop, bar and restaurant, and two sizeable car parks (pay and display), Praa Sands is perfect for a beach day with the family. Kids will love playing in the babbling river and building sandcastles in the soft sand before splashing in the waves between the red and yellow flags. 

Watersports:

Delivering perfect waves at low tide, Praa Sands is ideal for surfing on the south coast. Whether you’re looking for beginner or improver lessons, book with Global Boarders and get ready to hit the waves. Alternatively, you can hire surfboards, paddleboards, bodyboards and wetsuits to use at your leisure for the day. Watersports equipment, including single and double kayaks, can also be hired from the Boatshed Activity Centre located next to the carpark by the slipway to the beach. 

Coasteering:

Experience the thrill of coasteering along the Cornish coastline at Praa Sands with Kernow Coasteering. Led by an experienced guide, you’ll follow routes that include traversing cliffs, jumping into turquoise waters, and swimming through hidden tunnels. Giving you the chance to see Cornwall from a different perspective, you’re sure to have a memorable adventure. 

Walking:

With easy access to the South West Coast Path from the beach, it’s easy to explore the footpaths that lead towards Marazion in one direction and Porthleven in the other. Whether you stroll a short way to soak up the breathtaking views, or head out on a long ramble, you’ll be blown away by the sights, sounds and scent of nature all around.
