Things to do in Mousehole

Mousehole is best when entered on foot, or bus, or bike. Cars are not the way to see Mousehole and best left outside. If you have to bring a car, there’s a big car park on the Penzance side of the village, close to The Old Coastguard Hotel.

Christmas lights

Mousehole has celebrated Christmas with beautiful lights for 40 years! The village is a winter wonderland in the dark nights and grey seas of winter. Many villages have light shows today but Mousehole is special. Holiday cottages overlooking the harbour always enjoy an extra special Cornish Christmas. Read more on our blog about Mousehole lights.

Walks around Mousehole

For those who are not so content with staying in their holiday homes, the walks around Mousehole are a joy all year round.  There are some fabulous circular walks but we think there's something particularly satisfying about catching a bus from Mousehole and walking back in (especially if your walk exits the village in a north of westerly direction; you'll soon discover the town is nestled at the bottom of a very steep hill!)  Read our blog on Mousehole Walks.

Coasteering in Mousehole

If you're seeking adrenaline and adventure, check out Coasteering Adventures.

Mousehole is one of Cornwall’s top Coasteering destinations. Nestled in the shelter of Mounts Bay, Mousehole offers multiple coasteering routes for all ages and abilities. Coasteering Adventures are thrilled to be the exclusive provider of coasteering from this location. Book an adventure and you will experience cliff jumping, sea swimming, climbing, bouldering, exploring caves and floating through gullies. With each session tailored to the group, you can choose the level that you are comfortable with.

Dating back to the 13th century Mousehole has a rich history tying it to the sea. 1595 saw all but 1 house (which still stands today) burned to the ground by the Spanish armada. 100 Years later Mousehole became a haven for the ‘Barbary Pirates’ with a number of caves on the route being where their treasure was hidden. During the 1800’s Mousehole settled into a thriving fishing village and you’ll regularly see the small fishing boats from Mousehole pass our groups whilst out on route.

A brief history of Mousehole

Today Mousehole is beautiful and welcoming holiday destination This popular holiday destination has seen more than its fair share of hardtimes tragedy over the years.

The Quay was built in 1392, holding the harbour like a pair of protective arms. Fishing was always important to Mousehole. These days there are fewer boats fishing from the village but there is an active fishing fleet operating out of nearby Newlyn, a town worth a visit on its own account. Tom Bawcock's Eve, Mousehole

Every year, the people of Mousehole celebrate the bravery of Tom Bawcock. Years ago, when the boats couldn't get out in the storms, the villages had no fish to eat. Tom dared to take his boat out and returned with enough fish to make a Star Gazey fish pie for the whole village.

Fabulous cottage right by the harbour. We’ve stayed there now for a few years and it never disappoints. Highly recommended.

We absolutely loved our time at Duck Cottage. It’s beautiful and cosy, so perfect for a family holiday. Extremely well equipped and relaxing. We will be back!

Amazing location, lovely well equipped cottage and great service. We will back Duck Cottage!

Excellent stay, cottage really good standard, loved the pictures and rooms were decorated to a high standard, beds were very comfy too! Location excellent will be coming back again soon!

Wonderful stay with my parents and children. Great location, lovely cottage, well equipped, comfy beds. Would definitely stay here again

We loved our stay at Duck Cottage! Perfect location and had everything we needed. We would not hesitate to book again in the future.

We absolutely loved our stay at Duck Cottage. We have stayed at a few properties in Mousehole and this has to be our favourite. It’s extremely cosy, warm, the bedrooms are lovely and kitchen is the best stocked we’ve ever had in our experience. The location cannot be bettered and Duck Street itself is beautiful. We visited at New Year and it was magical with the harbour lights that extended up our street and the decorations in the house. We will definitely be coming again. Wonderful!

Lovely stay at Duck Cottage. The cottage is delightful, clean, comfortable and cosy. And very well equipped with everything you need to enjoy your Mousehole holiday.

Loved our stay in Duck Cottage - the pictures and location don't do it justice - just a few steps from the harbour, and the cottage gave us the perfect break. Just one small note: the cottage is next to the clocktower which chimes through the night so do take ear plugs.

Wonderful location, well equipped and comfortable cottage. Have already booked for 2022.

Had a terrific two weeks in Duck Cottage which is light and airy and with plenty of room. Added bonus of having the washing machine and dryer underneath rather than in the living area. Two bathrooms make a big difference too. Would love to stay in this cottage again.

Lovely cottage, ideally situated and with all amenities inside and outside (takeaways, bus service, cafes and restaurants) close at hand. Nicely furnished and with some added extras for rainy day amusement. Mousehole itself is so pretty, picturesque and unspoilt. Just wish there weren't so many of us tourists there ?? The locals must be saints. We're from the New Forest so we know what it's like!

We stayed at Duck Cottage to use as a base during our house move to Mousehole. The cottage is very comfortable & full of mod-cons. Location is perfect as everything is on your doorstep. Booking with Aspects was easy & the team are very knowledgeable. Checking in with keysafe quick & easy. Highly recommend.

A superbly located well laid out cottage.

This is a wonderfully appointed, spacious and atmospheric cottage. It has everything needed for a comfortable stay; even down to a really useful utility area in the basement that feels like it has real history to it.

We recommend very highly.

We’ve just spent a wonderful week staying at Duck Cottage, it’s a beautiful, spacious cottage, full of character, the original pilchard press under the cottage takes you back to the distant past with its original features, the pictures don’t do it justice, it’s a very spacious cottage only a few steps away from the stunning harbour. Absolutely loved it and without a doubt I would highly recommend staying here again.

Loved the cottage and location. Provided all our needs. Clean well maintained and nicely decorated. Would go again.

A delightful cottage in a great location. The cottage is much nicer than it looks on the Website. The kitchen is very well equipped and it is clean. There is a washing machine and a tumble dryer. The only complaint I have was that the dishwasher didn’t work. Also I recommend bringing earplugs because the seagulls are so noisy - I didn’t know they screech at night! Also there is a clocktower very close by and it chimes every hour and through the night. We did have a lovely time though and Mousehole is beautiful.

It really is a lovely little cottage; we are glad to hear that you enjoyed it. We were sorry to hear about the dishwasher; had we known that it had developed a fault while you were here, we would have got that sorted out straight away. We hope that it wasn't too much of an inconvenience! The housekeeper let us know straight away that you had left a note about this, and trades got that sorted out immediately, so thank you very much for bringing it to our attention. We hope that we will see you back here in beautiful Mousehole again soon. Tanya, Customer Services

A lovely cottage in a perfect location, we fell a little in love with Duck Cottage and can’t wait to go back for another stay!

Duck Cottage is a charming and cozy holiday rental! Fresh baked scones and clotted Cornish cream upon arrival were welcoming touches. The kitchen is well stocked. There was an abundance of fresh towels and linens. The bathrooms are pristine. The location just moments away from the harbor and sea wall is perfect. Wifi service is easily accessed. Mousehole is everything one could wish for in an idyllic fishing village. Locals are friendly and village shops filled with splendid merchandise. There are numerous art galleries to browse as well. Penzance is a short bus ride away. We hope to visit again soon!

The best cottage we’ve stayed in in Mousehole so far! Great location. Lovely bright cottage with everything you need.

Duck cottage is a delightful place to stay. It is modern, well appointed and is exactly as it looks on the photos. It has been very tastefully furnished and feels like a home from home. The accommodation was very clean The cottage is right in the centre of Mousehole and so all of the shops, pubs and restaurants are right on your doorstep. There is no outside space or parking at the property so it is £3 per 24 hours. The only things we found a little restricting for 6 people was having one shower and a small under counter fridge. This is however a fantastic property of quality in a lovely setting

We had a fabulous stay at Duck Cottage, it was very clean on arrival and the kitchen was well equipped. The location is superb, just a stones throw from the harbour. This was our second stay at the cottage and we wholeheartedly recommend it!!

Duck cottage is in the most amazing location . It is such a lovely cottage , you won’t be disappointed. ??

We are really sorry to hear that after such a great visit to this property in May, you had been disappointed on this occasion. We immediately spoke to the owners, who we understand have since spoken to you as they were very keen to find out what had changed and get anything addressed straight away. We have continued to monitor feedback since these concerns were addressed, and a visit from a member of the Aspects team has since confirmed that everything is in good order and as it should be, so thank you for making us aware.
