Sun kissed skin and sandy barefoot adventures are the order of the day at Dabblings, located just steps away from Mousehole Harbour. Wrap your hands around a mug of steaming hot tea, grab your holiday read and sit in Dabblings courtyard garden, while waiting for the little ones to stir. Sleeping six, this spacious cottage has cool, calming interiors which will entice you to stay in just a little longer. Stroll down the pathway to one of the harbour's beaches for a morning paddle in the crystal-clear waters and enjoy a picnic breakfast of warm croissants with sweet jam and Cornish coffee. Spend hours with your loved ones, building sandcastles, collecting shells and eating ice cream on the golden sand. At the end of the day head home to Dabblings for a long soak in the bathtub or take a refreshing shower. The sociable kitchen encourages family chatter and next day adventure planning while you're cooking up a storm for supper. Enjoy post dinner gin and tonics in the courtyard garden under the stars, or cuddle up together playing board games in front of the woodburner, before retiring to the comfortable beds for a peaceful slumber.

Dabblings is located in the heart of the village, with gift shops, galleries, restaurants and bars just a few steps away. Dine at 2 Fore Street, a bistro-style restaurant boasting views across Mounts Bay or sip cocktails after lunch in their secluded garden on summer afternoons. Leave the car behind and make the pleasant walk into neighbouring Newlyn to visit the several fishmongers offering a wide selection of their daily catch. Stop off for a glass of wine or two in the Fisherman's Arms, overlooking the colourful boats in this busy fishing port, before taking the short bus trip home. A coastal ramble to the picturesque Lamorna Cove is a must. Jump in the car to enjoy the beautiful Porthcurno Beach, the incredible Minack Theatre or an afternoon surfing at glorious Sennen Cove, which are just a few minutes drive away. Dabblings is a very special home; perfect for families or a group of friends looking to spend quality time together and you will want to return year after year.

Holidays in Mousehole

Mousehole is an idyllic village and fishing port with quaint cobbled streets full of bistros and art-galleries. Sit on the harbour and admire views of St Michael’s Mount or take a short drive to nearby Marazion to walk along the golden sands.

Mousehole is a great community with a fantastic atmosphere, and self catering in Mousehole is effortless. Finish off your evening with a pint of local ale at the Ship Inn, one of the famous St Austell Brewery establishments. For more info, read our blog post on Eating out in Mousehole.

Visit at Christmas and experience the magical Mousehole Lights display!

Things to do in Mousehole

Mousehole is best when entered on foot, or bus, or bike. Cars are not the way to see Mousehole and best left outside. If you have to bring a car, there’s a big car park on the Penzance side of the village, close to The Old Coastguard Hotel.

Christmas lights

Mousehole has celebrated Christmas with beautiful lights for 40 years! The village is a winter wonderland in the dark nights and grey seas of winter. Many villages have light shows today but Mousehole is special. Holiday cottages overlooking the harbour always enjoy an extra special Cornish Christmas. Read more on our blog about Mousehole lights.

Walks around Mousehole

For those who are not so content with staying in their holiday homes, the walks around Mousehole are a joy all year round.  There are some fabulous circular walks but we think there's something particularly satisfying about catching a bus from Mousehole and walking back in (especially if your walk exits the village in a north of westerly direction; you'll soon discover the town is nestled at the bottom of a very steep hill!)  Read our blog on Mousehole Walks.

Coasteering in Mousehole

If you're seeking adrenaline and adventure, check out Coasteering Adventures.

Mousehole is one of Cornwall’s top Coasteering destinations. Nestled in the shelter of Mounts Bay, Mousehole offers multiple coasteering routes for all ages and abilities. Coasteering Adventures are thrilled to be the exclusive provider of coasteering from this location. Book an adventure and you will experience cliff jumping, sea swimming, climbing, bouldering, exploring caves and floating through gullies. With each session tailored to the group, you can choose the level that you are comfortable with.

Dating back to the 13th century Mousehole has a rich history tying it to the sea. 1595 saw all but 1 house (which still stands today) burned to the ground by the Spanish armada. 100 Years later Mousehole became a haven for the ‘Barbary Pirates’ with a number of caves on the route being where their treasure was hidden. During the 1800’s Mousehole settled into a thriving fishing village and you’ll regularly see the small fishing boats from Mousehole pass our groups whilst out on route.

A brief history of Mousehole

Today Mousehole is beautiful and welcoming holiday destination This popular holiday destination has seen more than its fair share of hardtimes tragedy over the years.

The Quay was built in 1392, holding the harbour like a pair of protective arms. Fishing was always important to Mousehole. These days there are fewer boats fishing from the village but there is an active fishing fleet operating out of nearby Newlyn, a town worth a visit on its own account. Tom Bawcock's Eve, Mousehole

Every year, the people of Mousehole celebrate the bravery of Tom Bawcock. Years ago, when the boats couldn't get out in the storms, the villages had no fish to eat. Tom dared to take his boat out and returned with enough fish to make a Star Gazey fish pie for the whole village.

We had a fabulous holiday in Dabblings. Cute, quaint cottage tucked away up a side street off the main harbour. Having stayed in many cottages in Mousehole, we found the space and comfort that Dabblings offered to be the best so far. Comfortable beds and thoughtful food hamper and cooking ingredients left by the owner. Would love to return, thanks.

We had a fabulous pre-Christmas stay at Dabblings. We have been coming to Mousehole for years and this is by far the best place we have had the pleasure of staying in. Perfect for a young family with all of the amenities you could ever wish for, lots of space, brilliant location, stunning interior and so cosy. A real home from home. We can’t wait to return to Dabblings next year. Thank you for having us!

Lovely spacious cottage in a fantastic location

Quiet and comfortable cottage. Parking can be an issue in Mousehole but cottage and location more than worth any inconvenience. Would stay again.

Fantastic cosy cottage, lovely new carpets, furnishings and decor. Such a great location in the heart of Mousehole. Highly recommended even for larger families of five or six, with kids sleeping on the cool bunk beds!

We had such a lovely stay at Dabblings. The location was excellent and the cottage perfectly equipped with everything we needed and the most comfortable beds ever! We’ll be back!

Had a great week at Dabblings even with the unpredictable British weather. Cottage is perfect. Will definitely be staying again. Kids had a great time to.
