Rockpool Ramble with Newquay Wild Activities

We were kindly invited on a rockpool ramble with Newquay Wild Activities on Fistral beach. We met our guides Zeni and Gwynnie, who were both very knowledgeable about the marine life along the Cornish coast. With our wellies on we headed down the steps near Seaspray to South Fistral rockpools, where it was low tide. You can see the rockpool spot here on our webcam.

We saw a variety of marine life including crabs, starfish and gobi fish. Our guides discovered all sorts of anemones, and even rock gobi fish, who hide in the little pools of water in the cracks in the rocks. The little ones loved the rockpool bingo, ticking off what they saw as they went around.

Rosina, our Porthleven Property Manager, came along and said about the experience: "The Rockpool Ramble was so much fun, and such a lovely thing to do with my little girl- she is four years old and loves being outside discovering new creatures and wildlife, especially when it's on the beach. We saw starfish, fish, crabs and anemones in and around the rockpools. It was a fab day in the sunshine learning all about the incredible local wildlife we have here in Cornwall!"

Always be aware not to disturb the wildlife when rock pooling, if you want to get closer to the animals, join an organised group to ensure animal safety. A percentage of the income is put back into the community allowing NWA to subsidise disadvantaged and marginalised individuals to partake in activities too. They also offer a guided Wildlife Walk around Newquay, if you are interested in booking any of the activities click here.
