Established in 2002, Bude Pilot Gig Club is the most northerly based gig rowing club in Cornwall. They participate in The London River Race, The Newquay Cornwall County Championships and The World Championships (at the Isles of Scilly) each year. The club, which is based at Upper Tamar Lake, provides a safe and scenic environment for sailing year-round, without having to work around tide times or weather conditions. The club takes the gigs to sea as often as possible, especially in the spring and summer months. However, having the club at the lake means members can continue training even in harsher conditions, both on the lake and on the rowing machines at the club. 

To be as fit and active as possible, club members train regularly, which includes early morning sessions and indoor training on the machines. Having access to the right equipment allows the team to train as effectively as possible and be ready to compete at a higher level. Moreover, new sports equipment reduces the risk of injury, creating a safer training environment, especially for junior and newer members.  

As Bude Pilot Gig Club grows from strength to strength, further equipment is required to meet the demands of the club. Therefore, they have launched a fundraiser in the hopes of raising £6000 for new equipment. Newer, more modern machines will allow members to achieve and maintain maximum fitness while supporting the club's future, ensuring it remains an active part of the rowing community for years to come.

We are delighted to support the fundraiser with a £500 donation and look forward to following the growth of this club, which is a vital part of the Bude community. Simon and Diane from our Bude office were invited along to the club to meet some of the team following our donation.   

Our Property Manager for Bude, Simon Skerry, said, “It was a pleasure to meet some of the team and learn more about the club and the boats. A huge amount of fundraising must be needed each year to support the premises and equipment; Aspects are keen to work with and support clubs and charities that improve the local community.”
