Holidays in Porthleven

Whatever you love about Cornwall, we’re sure you'll find it while enjoying a holiday in Porthleven. Relax and enjoy the boats bobbing in the harbour, pull on the walking boots and join the coastal path to Rinsey and Praa Sands, take a short drive to nearby Marazion and the iconic St Michael's Mount, or hit the waves and surf until sunset.

This charming fishing town has a relaxing atmosphere; it's gorgeous in the Summer and dramatic during the Winter. The granite harbour and pier with its famous clock tower has become an iconic storm-watching spot during wild wintry weather and offers a tranquil setting on calmer days.

Take a short break out of season in Porthleven and avoid the hubbub on the roads and beaches. Soak up the sun on the harbour front and watch the fishing boats pass by. Catch the first glimpses of colour from the acres of Cornish daffodils in early spring with the sea as a back drop as you drive from coast to coast. With easy access to the coastal footpath, head east to discover Gunwalloe Fishing Cove, Polurnan Cliffs and Mullion Cove or head west and marvel at Praa Sands, Perranuthnoe and Marazion.

Take a short walk from Porthleven and reach the coarse sand of Porthleven beach, reaching two miles south as far as Loe Bar, a sand spit separating the sea and forming Loe Pool, the largest freshwater lake in Cornwall.

Porthleven harbour is an enjoyable place to relax, with its cafés, pubs and restaurants providing the perfect place for you to sit outside and watch the world float by!

Top tip

Like storm watching? Visit in winter and you may be lucky enough to experience huge waves crashing over the clock tower!

Great location. Property was nice and clean. Parking a plus. We had some issues but we're swiftly dealt with by Apsect holidays.

This is a lovely property in a great location. Having parking onsite is a real bonus, especially in the summer months. We had a marvellous holiday and everything we needed from a holiday home was there.

Lovely cottage to stay in with prime location. Our 18th time to Porthleven but first time in the cottage. Would definitely recommend. Also very good customer service from Aspect holidays.

We had yet another wonderful stay at 2 Mackerel Cottages, there was everything we needed, even the weather which was windy, cold, rainy and a little sun couldn't but ruin the holiday, it was all just as we like it! All booked again for October and April. Thank you.

Enjoyed a lovely week at Porthleven. The cottage was very spacious, warm and inviting. It was well equipped and well looked after and clean

Aspects Holidays are very easy to book with and all instructions of booking and arrival details are very clear. We have now booked our 3rd holiday with Aspects and would highly recommend them.

Porthleven is a fabulous place to stay, there are so many restaurants, cafes, galleries and shops, to say nothing of Pengelly Stores, for a fishing village, it is great. Plenty of lovely eateries, Amelie’s; The Square; Kota Kai; and both pubs do good food. We always spend lots of days of our two weeks just in Porthleven, there are great walks, to Rinsey one way and on the estate coastal paths the other way to Helston and beyond. We love going to Mullion, a beautiful cove we have been visiting for 35 years and Sennen! The first a mile before The Lizard, and the second a mile before Lands End. Another good place for a drink and a meal is The Mexico Inn at Long Rock, really friendly people run the place and food lovely. It is also worth a trip to either The Gurnards Head or The Old Coastguard, the former on the road into Zennor and the latter in Mousehole, either of these definitely need to be booked, if the weather is good it is especially nice sitting out in the gardens looking at the sea of The Old Coastguard.

Mackerel Cottage was lovely, comfortable and perfectly positioned, we will definitely be looking to return

If you want a holiday with excellent views and a perfect location, this accommodation has it. In winter and cooler periods you will be kept warm. But when it’s hot the living area upstairs was too hot for us. We do have aircon at home and we really missed it here.

Mackerel Cottages is in an amazing location, between a lovely pub and restaurants on the harbour front. Porthleven is a lovely place with lots of eating places to choose from! The cottage is well equipped and very handy for the beach and swims in the harbour. Also, a great base for the south coast of Cornwall.

Porthleven is a lovely spot for families or couples. Plenty of places to visit with great beaches. The restaurants are excellent we particularly liked Kota Kai and Amelia’s next door to Mackerel Cottage. The upside down living space gives you great views over the harbour. The property was lovely well equipped and comfortable. Would definitely go back !

Porthleven is a great place to stay, close to lovely beaches & scenery. The town has some great restaurants & everything you need can be purchased locally. The cottage has a great view of the harbour & is central. A great place to stay in or out of season.

Great cottage in fabulous position

We have stayed at 2 Mackerel Cottage several times and have always been very happy with the accommodation in the past, this visit was very different. There was a strong smell of dog wee in the hallway. The property was surrounded by scaffolding and there was was construction works being carried out while we were in the property, had we known this type of works was being carried out we would not have booked the cottage. A very disappointing break.

Reply from Aspects Holidays

We are sorry that you experienced a couple of issues at 2 Mackerel Cottages, this is such a shame to hear. When we first heard that you could smell something in the hallway, we offered to get a housekeeper or carpet cleaner around to the property as soon as possible to help address this, as it was not something that had been reported to us before, but we understand that you preferred not to be disturbed during your stay. This has now been sorted for any future guests. When we are aware of a building project taking place close to a property, we always try to give guests as much notice and information as we can prior to their break. Unfortunately in this case, we were under the impression that the work had been completed and the scaffolding taken down, which is why we were not in contact with you before your stay. We are ever so sorry for any inconvenience caused by this, and we hope we can welcome you back to Cornwall soon. Katy, Customer Services.

I have stayed here many, many times because it is a great little house in a superb location....being in central Porthleven makes eating out a doddle.

As regular visitors to 2 Mackerel Cottages, we are obviously happy to return. The location overlooking the harbour is wonderful, it and isn't far from the beach and the well-stocked Pengelly store. On-site parking is a great benefit. The property gets the morning sun, and there is somewhere to sit all round the harbour. For walkers, the coastal path passes the front door.

Location, location, location!
You could not ask for a better view or location than this. You do need to be prepared to drive very slowly and carefully along the quay side to get to the cottage and access your parking space as there are always lots of people about; if you happen to meet a vehicle coming the other way it can get 'interesting', so make sure you are car-confident. 3 x serviceable bedrooms (although we suggested that the single bed needs replacing) and a great upstairs open and airy living space. But its the view that make this the absolute best cottage .... just perfect and I will never tire of watching the tide come in and go out, filling and then draining the harbour.

Reply from Aspects Holidays

We are glad you enjoyed 2 Mackerel Cottages. Those views are fantastic, no matter what the weather is doing! You can just sit back and watch the comings and goings of the harbour and the changing conditions as storms roll in, or the calmness of a still, sunny day! The drive along the harbour may take a bit of patience, but we are glad that you agree, is worth it! As mattresses can be very difficult to get right, with every guest having different preferences when it comes to comfort, we will monitor feedback on this for now, and check the mattresses when we are next inspecting the property. Thanks for your helpful comments and we hope that we will see you back again soon. Tanya, Customer Services

Mackerel Cottages exceeded expectations. Wonderful position and excellent facilities in the ultimately delightful Cornish port.
