The second ground floor reception room and kitchen make it perfect for large families and groups who want some independence. If you can pull yourself from the house itself, Praa Sands has the Sandbar a laid back beachside pub, a surf school, seasonal beach café and a local shop. If you feel like travelling a little further, the renowned Victoria Inn at Perranuthnoe and the Falmouth Packet an excellent local pub are only a few miles away as well as the top notch restaurants in Porthleven being only a short drive eastwards (advance booking advisable). What an amazing place! We have just returned from a wonderful stay at what is a truly breathtaking property. I have never experienced a sea view like it. The master bedroom is beyond words, with floor to ceiling windows looking out over the beach and sea. All 5 rooms are spacious with beds that are amongst the best I have slept on. The owners really have thought of everything. Outside is a treat too; large, well-kept gardens rolling down to the sea and a huge pool which will be a treat in the summer. The local pub is literally on the beach and only a short walk away and I can highly recommend the atmosphere. I am hard to please - but Praaloha captivated me and we will be back very soon!

Mesmerising is the only description - A truly special place, situated on an amazing coastline. It was difficult to leave! It is one of the best equipped houses we have stayed at, we were a party of 6 for a long weekend and it made for a very special gathering. And if anyone is a pet lover the walks that span miles of beautiful Cornish Coastline won’t disappoint, you or the dogs! We will definitely be back - and thank you for sharing your beautiful home with those fortunate enough to stay here.

Praa Sands’ nine-hole golf course is only minutes away, or for those who prefer a bit of history, Pengersick Castle is a short walk away where there are plenty of stories about the wrecking and smuggling that took place in the bay until the 18th century. Right on the beach is Sandbar, a modern and bright restaurant/bar with magnificent views across the ocean. Read more about Sandbar on our blog.

What's nearby:

Just seven miles away from Praa Sands is Penzance, a town with an eclectic mix of art studios, historic buildings, well stocked shops and award-winning restaurants. Visiting Marazion is a must when staying here, as the stunning St Michael's Mount found here is just a short drive away. This mystical tidal island provides the perfect backdrop for a walk along Marazion beach and offers an interesting day out. Helston, six miles away, is an ancient market town and gateway to the Lizard peninsula. Hayle, also six miles away, has a new, easily accessible out of town retail development together with a dramatic golden sandy beach stretching for three miles to Godrevy Lighthouse.

Tom Bawcock's Eve, Mousehole

The tradition of Tom Bawcock comes from the feast or famine lifestyle of Cornwall.  The story goes that it was just before Christmas; there had been no fish for weeks, the boats couldn’t get out into the raging storm, the village was starving. One man, Tom Bawcock, dared to take his boat out of the harbour’s safety. He returned with enough fish to make fish pie for the whole village.

Today, a festival takes place each year to celebrate Tom Bawcock's bravery. During the festival, Star Gazey pies are eaten in memory of this famous event.
