Rosemary Cottage is a pretty ironstone barn conversion within a small group of cottages at Higher Widemouth Farm, less than half a mile from the sea. The barns have been converted extremely well and the open plan spacious living area has created a light and airy, tastefully designed space to relax and chillout after a busy day at the seaside. The living space is open plan, which provides the perfect setting for happy food preparation and feasting, the bedrooms are spacious and tastefully presented to provide ultimate relaxation zones. Widemouth Bay beach is a short stroll taking the Bridlepath adjacent to the lane, so here at Rosemary Cottage you have the perfect holiday home, a rural countryside haven overlooking farmland and near the seaside.

Rosemary Cottage is under a mile from the sandy beach at Widemouth Bay beach, which is a large sandy beach, there's a great beach cafe, tea room and a couple of surf hire options. Widemouth Bay has lots to offer within the hospitality sector with a few good pubs, one which is just 500 yards away, which produce some great refreshments to feast on. The cottage felt very homely and had everything we needed to make our stay comfortable. We really enjoyed our stay in the cottage and its location makes it an ideal base for travelling around North Cornwall and North Devon.

April 2023

We stayed for a week along with 3 other family groups. The cottages were all fabulous, allowing each family to have their own space but with a great outdoor area for dining so we were able to eat together. The hosts were lovely, engaging with us but not intrusive.

Holidays in Widemouth Bay

Widemouth Bay is a beautiful beach, just three miles from the town of Bude. With one and a half miles of golden sand, it’s the perfect place for a relaxing holiday within easy reach of the facilities at Bude.

Situated on the North coast, Widemouth Bay is an open, exposed stretch of coast, ideal for surfers. Equally enjoyed by families, children can explore the rock pools exposed at low tide. With beach cafes, parking and seasonal lifeguards, it’s the perfect day out.

Though Widemouth Bay appears to be one large beach, it’s divided into two beaches. Blackrock, the south end, is privately owned and is dog-friendly all year, perfect if your pooch is joining you on holiday.

Did you know...

Widemouth Bay is the landing point for communications cables linking the UK to other countries?

Widemouth Bay Beach

Of course, the best part of Widemouth Bay is Widemouth Bay Beach - 1.5 miles of glorious sand.

Though it appears to be one large expanse of sand, the beach is actually divided into two sections: the North Beach and the South Beach (also known as Black Rock). This division comes in the form of a barrier of natural rocks - the largest being the landmark known as Black Rock. At low tide, hundreds of rock pools are exposed - perfect to keep the children (and adults) entertained.

Ample parking is available at Widemouth Bay, but if you don't fancy getting your toes sandy, you can park at one of the free viewing areas!

There is a seasonal dog ban on this beach from the 15th May to the 30th September between 10am and 6pm. Outside these hours and from 1st October to 14th May dogs are allowed.

Things to do in Widemouth Bay

If you fancy a change from rock-pooling and making sand castles on the beach, you might like to try surfing. Don't worry if you're a beginner you can take surfing lessons with Freewave Surf Academy or OA Surf Club

There are lots of lovely walks in and around Widemouth Bay. You could try walking to Bude, via Philips Point Nature Reserve, over Efford Down, to the watch tower at Compass Point and then follow the canal into Bude.

Places to eat in Widemouth Bay

There are several eateries in and around Widemouth Bay.

Firstly, The Bay View Inn provides a selection of seasonal classics and food with a twist. They have three separate indoor dining areas, several alfresco dining areas and spaces available for private hire. In peak season, they open a snack shack, serving a variety of take away foods.

Close to the beach, you'll find Black Rock Cafe and Bistro, serving freshly-cooked artisan food. You can enjoy your food inside, or on the deck soaking up the views.

With direct access to the beach, Widemouth Bay Cafe serves all day breakfast, fish and chips, burgers, cream teas and other light snacks.

Slightly outside of Widemouth Bay, Elements Cafe Bar and Restaurant serves a selection of food, specialising in pizza and pasta. The restaurant has beautiful views to enjoy while you dine.

We had booked both Rosemary Cottage and neighbouring Olive Tree Cottage for a family holiday. Both accommodations are of a very high standard and well equipped. Ideally located for easy access to the nearby beaches at Widemouth Bay and Bude. We had such a lovely time and cannot wait to return. Highly recommended.

Met by the owner upon arrival very courteous, informative and friendly, lovely little cottage with wifi and well equipped kitchen, short walk to the beech and the pub although along a busy road so not to be done in the dark.

Nice, tidy property in great location. Had everything we needed to enjoy a fabulous holiday in Cornwall, lovely welcome from the owner on arrival

We have had a fantastic week at Rosemary Cottage. The cottage was spotless and everything we needed was there. We really enjoyed some lovely BBQs looking over the fields as the sun was setting. Thank you.

The cottage is exceptionally clean. A very good base for beach holidays with Black Rock and Widemouth Bay very close and Crackington Haven just up the road. Courtyard acts as a suntrap while the walls shield you from any sea breeze. Lovely quiet holiday giving time to relax and recover after this past tough year.

A beautiful place to stay, nice and quiet, just far away enough from the hustle and bustle of the main tourist areas. The owners are fantastic too, very helpful and nothing is too much trouble. Highly recommended.

Lovely cosy cottage which was well equipped for our stay and in a fabulous location for a family holiday. The nearest beach is a short walk away and there are lots of other beaches and attractions to visit which are a short drive away such as Bude, Tintagel, Boscastle etc.
