Holidays in Crackington Haven

Crackington Haven is a quiet coastal village, not far from Bude, located in an area of Outstanding Natural Beauty. The small rocky cove offers more peace and seclusion than other neighbouring beaches. With breathtaking scenery and spectacular views, it's the perfect place for a relaxing holiday.

This small and scenic rocky cove reveals a large expanse of golden sand as the tide retreats. Sheltered by high cliffs and dotted with rock pools, this beach is popular with surfers and families alike. With a large car park nearby, toilets and a shop, you can easily spend the whole day enjoying the pebbly cove. Lifeguards patrol the beach throughout the peak summer months and dogs are welcome on this beach except between 15th May and 30 September, 10am to 6pm when a seasonal dog ban is in place. The beach is looked after by locals, who work hard to ensure it remains as beautiful as it is.

Top tip

Walk the coast path to Boscastle for some truly breath-taking views!

Things to do in Crackington Haven

Crackington Haven is perfectly located for coastal walking!

You can take the coastal path from Crackington Haven to Cambeak Headland and beyond; you'll discover panoramic views and spectacular scenery. Why not stroll back via the sheltered woodlands of Ludon Valley? Alternatively, you can take the circular walk to the medieval Church of St Genny's, via Pekenna Point, where you'll be able to see the many landing points used in the past by Cornish smugglers and wreckers.

Of course, you may also wish to try surfing - the sheltered cover filters the size of the swell and gives shelter from Northerly winds.

If you're looking for activities further afield, then read our blog about days out in Bude or raindy days in Bude

Dining out in Crackington Haven

Within the village of Crackington Haven, you'll find The Coombe Barton Inn. They serve classic pub food and are open all year round. There are also two cafes in the village: Cabin Cafe and Haven Cafe. Cabin Cafe is a family run cafe and shop selling a range of homemade foods, including cakes and pasties. Haven cafe, which is dog friendly, also sells a range of home made food including cakes.

What our guests say...

We know how important honest reviews are when it comes to booking your holiday. To help you choose the right property for you, we publish all reviews left by guests who have stayed here in the past, with the few exceptions stated in our Review Guidelines. Please bear in mind that some facilities referred to by past guests in reviews can be removed or changed at any time.

Overall this property is clean and in a good location.

However it is not designed for young children in mind. Windows do not have safety locks on and the ledges are low and wide (easy to climb on) and the window opens from the bottom up very wide. Potentially very dangerous.

Cottage name is only visible when driving in from the opposite direction given in the instructions. Look for Pipers Cottage - it's right next door. Parking is round the back at the opposite end to the cottage as is the garden - it's not connected to the house.

We felt the cottage was missing a few homely touches. Only one bar of soap in the upstairs toilet (hand soap downstairs would be nice), bare minimum for cutlery, only a few toilet rolls and dish washer tabs so these need to be purchased very early on and there also was no hair dryer. Thankfully a kind neighbour lent us one. The rug in the living room looks like it needs a good clean.

This is a nice cottage but with a young son we wouldn't stay here again.

Reply from Aspects Holidays

We are sorry if this property did not meet all expectations for you. With every guests needs, tastes and requirements being different, we try to offer a large range of properties that will hopefully mean that we have something for everyone. Cobble Cottage, as we hope you will see from the photos is quite a traditional cottage so there will be some features that are a bit different from modern homes and as a result, may not suit the requirements of every party. The windows (including some sash windows) are a very common and safe traditional style window, which many parties with young children will find ok, but for those that are not used to this style, it may not be something that you feel comfortable with. Sash windows are also designed to be able to open from the top down, as pictured on the website, so hopefully that should help to ease any worries over that side of it a little, if you did decide to return. Because all the properties that we market are self-catered, you will need to provide your own toiletries, dishwasher tablets and so on. Owners will provide a few dishwasher tablets, a bit of washing detergent, washing up liquid and usually 1 toilet roll per toilet; just enough to get you started, so that you don't need to head straight off to the supermarket. Thank you for letting us know about the rug, we will ensure that this feedback is passed on to the owner, and we will suggest a hairdryer, although this isn't something that every owner will provide. Thanks again for your helpful comments and we hope that you still had a lovely time here in Cornwall. Tanya, Customer Services

Superb accommodation. So quiet and relaxing.

Cobble Cottage is in a very small hamlet about 2 miles walk from Crackington Haven. Due to its 'Cottage-y' nature, the downstairs room are quite dark and cool so probably wonderful during a hot summer, or conversely great for cosying up in the winter - with the woodburner. Bear in mind though that logs are only provided for the first night so you will have to find your own for the rest of your stay. The upstairs rooms are very light and airy. They also face the morning sun which is lovely to wake up to - but maybe not at 6am, so if you're sensitive to light, maybe bring a sleep mask.

We had a really lovely stay at Cobble Cottage. It was extremely comfortable for the whole family (including the dog) and we all really enjoyed costing up in front of the fire after a couple of very wet and windy trips to the beach! It’s also a great location for visiting so many of the beautiful beaches and fishing towns of North Cornwall.

Cobble cottage surpassed expectations. Very clean and cosy, beautifully decorated.
