Beaches

Crackington Haven

This small and scenic rocky cove reveals a large expanse of golden sand as the tide retreats. Sheltered by high cliffs and dotted with rock pools, this beach is popular with surfers and families alike. With a large car park nearby, toilets and a shop, you can easily spend the whole day enjoying the pebbly cove. Lifeguards patrol the beach throughout the peak summer months and dogs are welcome on this beach except between 15th May and 30 September, 10am to 6pm when a seasonal dog ban is in place. The beach is looked after by locals, who work hard to ensure it remains as beautiful as it is.

Things to do

Crackington Haven is perfectly located for coastal walking!

You can take the coastal path from Crackington Haven to Cambeak Headland and beyond; you'll discover panoramic views and spectacular scenery. Why not stroll back via the sheltered woodlands of Ludon Valley? Alternatively, you can take the circular walk to the medieval Church of St Genny's, via Pekenna Point, where you'll be able to see the many landing points used in the past by Cornish smugglers and wreckers.

Of course, you may also wish to try surfing - the sheltered cover filters the size of the swell and gives shelter from Northerly winds.

If you're looking for activities further afield, then read our blog about days out in Bude or raindy days in Bude

Places to eat

Within the village of Crackington Haven, you'll find The Coombe Barton Inn. They serve classic pub food and are open all year round. There are also two cafes in the village: Cabin Cafe and Haven Cafe. Cabin Cafe is a family run cafe and shop selling a range of homemade foods, including cakes and pasties. Haven cafe, which is dog friendly, also sells a range of home made food including cakes.

Superb accommodation. So quiet and relaxing.

Cobble Cottage is in a very small hamlet about 2 miles walk from Crackington Haven. Due to its 'Cottage-y' nature, the downstairs room are quite dark and cool so probably wonderful during a hot summer, or conversely great for cosying up in the winter - with the woodburner. Bear in mind though that logs are only provided for the first night so you will have to find your own for the rest of your stay. The upstairs rooms are very light and airy. They also face the morning sun which is lovely to wake up to - but maybe not at 6am, so if you're sensitive to light, maybe bring a sleep mask.

We had a really lovely stay at Cobble Cottage. It was extremely comfortable for the whole family (including the dog) and we all really enjoyed costing up in front of the fire after a couple of very wet and windy trips to the beach! It’s also a great location for visiting so many of the beautiful beaches and fishing towns of North Cornwall.

Cobble cottage surpassed expectations. Very clean and cosy, beautifully decorated.
