What a gem of a place, just felt like home ?? Although we had rain most days, it didn’t stop us from venturing out. Our dog was happy ??

One thing which I did mention to the owner, we had muddy boots and suggested she put a box with lid so we could place them in there rather than us putting inside. The Hot Tub was a real treat . Thankyou

Holidays in Bude

Carrying the title of Cornwall’s northern-most coastal town, Bude is perfectly placed to enjoy some of the north coast’s beautiful beaches and coastal walks.

Bude has so much to offer when it comes to things to do, including a fabulous town with a wide selection of independent shops, cafés, and restaurants – not to mention the wildest live music venue in Cornwall. In addition, visitors can meander along Bude Canal, stretch out on one of the many beaches, or enjoy a gentle cruise in a pedal boat or kayak, observing the beautiful area from a different angle. The town is home to the historic Bude Sea Pool and The Castle Bude, both a must if you are in the area.

For those who enjoy walking, the South West Coast Path can be easily accessed from Bude. You’ll be blown away by the stunning scenery and breathtaking views along the coastline – it’s also a great dog-friendly day out!

With so much on the doorstep, it’s the perfect destination for a holiday by the sea!

Top tip

Take a dip in the historic Bude Sea Pool at Summerleaze Beach!

Beaches in Bude

Each with its own character and charm, the beaches in Bude are great whether you’re a swimmer, surfer or sand-snoozer.

Summerleaze Beach – Boasting the iconic sea pool, and only a five-minute walk from the centre of Bude, Summerleaze Beach is Bude’s central hub of sand, surf, and sun. Clean, safe, and easy on the eye, Summerleaze Beach is a big hit with surfers, sun-bathers, and families. However, it’s the sheer variety of activities that mark Summerleaze as arguably one of the best beaches in Cornwall for outdoor pursuits and watersports so definitely swing by if you love a hands-on holiday.

Crooklets Beach – At low tide, you’ll find a huge expanse of golden sand along with lots of rockpools to explore, making it very popular with families. There’s also decent surf and lots of amenities nearby including a beach café for those all-important ice creams and even a skate park.

Widemouth Bay Beach – Stretching across one and a half miles of golden sands, Widemouth Bay is divided into two halves, the North beach and the South beach, separated by a natural barrier of rock known as Black Rock. As the tide retreats, amazing rock formations are exposed - perfect for rockpooling and getting back to nature!

Northcott Mouth Beach – Three miles North of Bude is the small rocky beach Northcott Mouth, which is owned by the National Trust. As the tide drops, the beach opens up to expansive sand with rockpools dotted all around - perfect for exploring with the dog all year round.

Bude Castle

Ordinarily, a castle built on the sand might not seem like the best idea, but Bude Castle has really stood the test of time! Built around 1830, the castle was formally the home of Victorian inventor Sir Goldsworthy Gurney. It’s now a heritage centre with lots of fascinating exhibitions and art galleries, making this impressive feat of architecture an interesting day whatever the weather.

Why explore the beautiful surrounding area of Bude on four wheels when you can head out on two! There’s a great selection of bikes available for hire around Bude, which suit all ages and most abilities – saddle up!

Bude Sea Pool

Opened in 1930, this partially man-made tidal swimming pool in the rocks of Summerleaze beach provides a lovely, safe place to swim, perfect if you’re not ready to swim in the sea. The pool is open all year round, but of course, it depends on the tide and weather, so always check before heading out.

Surfing & Watersports

Based near Summerleaze beach, Bude Surfing Experience provides water sports equipment hire and watersports lessons so you can hit the waves running as you try your hand at surfing and stand-up paddleboarding!

Alternatively, Freewave Surf Academy at Widemouth Bay offers surfing, coasteering and SUP lessons, while Big Blue Surf School offers a range of surfing lessons, from complete beginners to advanced.

Head to Banford’s Bude, Jemima Rainbow, or Wildwood Cornwall for unique Cornish gifts, or you can stop by the Refill Shop for some environmentally friendly supplies. You’ll also find popular big names from FatFace to Ann’s Cottage, which houses all the top surfing brands.

Walks

With lots of stunning walks in and around Bude, walkers will be spoilt for choice when it comes to scenic routes. Head out onto the South West Coast path for dramatic coastal paths or head inland and explore the many walkways, which take you across crisscrossing fields, through woodland trails and even past Bude’s historic aqueduct.

Dining Out

After a day frolicking in the sea, we often find ourselves in need of a big feed, which is perfect when you’re surrounded by all the great places to eat in Bude. Head to Life’s A Beach for epic food and relaxed vibes or live out your dream of feasting on the water at The Barge! A beautiful property that was spotless and had everything we needed. It was perfectly located to explore Bude, Widemouth Bay and other areas on the Cornwall/Devon border. The hosts were lovely and gave some good advice on local places to explore, and nothing was too much trouble. The welcoming goodies were also very much appreciated after a long drive down

We had a lovely relaxing stay at the Old Egg Shed and were welcomed with a cream tea and other treats on arrival. Hot tub, bath robe and slippers offered a touch of luxury and there are clever uses of the space available such as a sink vanity unit in bathroom offering plenty of storage for toiletries. It is a little more remote than we would have liked, however Bude was only about 20 mins drive and north Cornwall easily explored by car. We had lovely days out such as taking the ferry from Rock to Padstow, exploring Port Isaac and Widemouth Bay.

We had a fantastic holiday at the old Egg Shed, the hosts Dave and Jo were, the best hosts, nothing was to much bother. We were there the first two weeks in September, the weather was very hot and we realised the fridge was not keeping or food chilled. We mentioned it to Jo in passing,by late afternoon Jo and Dave had got us a table top fridge and a fan for the bedroom? It was way above and beyond. Dave gave us some local restaurants to try , the stumbles is just a short drive away and does a great Sunday lunch. After our days out coming back to the hottub was so relaxing.

Great place away from everything. Place has everything thing you need, parking easy and hot tub a lovely addition.

Fantastic property. Really enjoyed our short break. Lovely welcome pack on arrival Property had everything you needed and loved the hot tub. Nice and quiet and not very far from Bude. Will definitely stay here again

Great holiday detination, very friendly owners .property was good standard and well stocked for cooking at home. Not able to get takeaway delivered as too far out but lots of places to get take out from. The spar shop was very local in village of Whitstone had everything we needed Would highly recommend had a great holiday with dog so relaxing

Lovely stay at the Egg Shed, perfect for 2. Very clean, everything you could need and a beautiful little welcome pack provided. You won’t be disappointed. Little more remote than I would have liked but that’s down to me not checking in detail.

We had an absolute stunning week in Mid May for both our birthdays. The Old Egg Shed is just beautiful and we didn’t want to leave. It is decorated to my taste, as if I've done it myself. We had everything we could want. The bed was soo comfortable and the hot tub was just bliss. Dave and Jo were so friendly and made sure they both made contact with us which we appreciated especially as we were able to compliment them on what they have achieved with their barn conversion. We visited all over during our stay and would recommend anyone visiting St Nectans Glen, Bodmin jail, Widemouth Bay and St Ives. We also ate in many places but particularly loved The Chapel within Bodmin Jail for special occasions it was just delicious! Otherwise we throughly enjoyed the food at The Beach and The Olive Tree in Bude and The Beach in St Ives. So overall I would definitely recommend and we would 100% return so thank you so much for a memorable stay.

We loved it here! Just right for the two of us. It was spotlessly clean, comfortable and so easy to settle into. Very quiet and peaceful. Hot tub was fab! We met one of the owners, Dave. Lovely guy, very welcoming and gave us some great recommendations. We would definitely love to visit again!

Wow, what a fantastic stay at the old Egg Shed! Such a beautiful little place in a really peaceful location. Upon our arrival we met with the owner of the property who gave us some really good advice on local places to eat and visit. We arrived to fresh scones, clotted cream, fresh milk and some lovely Easter treats ( thank you! ). The place was spotlessly clean, the hot tub was gorgeous and is in a real little sun trap, we felt like the owners really have just thought of every little detail - even the dog had her own goody basket! Thanks for such a fantastic stay, we will be returning !

We had a fantastic break at the Old Egg Shed which was beautifully decorated for Christmas. The owners have thought of everything and the property was very well- equipped. The wine cooler was a real bonus! The property was lovely, warm and cosy and the owners went out of their way to ensure we had a brilliant stay including leaving us some lovely welcome treats for us and our little dog. Thank you to Jo and Dave.

Just the perfect stay! The Old Egg Shed is completely beautiful. It has a really homely feel with absolutely everything you could need for your stay. The owners kindly left an arrival package for us and our doggy which made us feel so welcome! The recommendations on where to visit when we arrived were brilliant and generally we wouldn’t have changed a thing! A last minute holiday turned into our best and most relaxing yet. We were extremely sad to leave and are already planning when we can return!

The Old egg shed is a fabulous property for a week away by the coast! We would recommend to all and we will be returning in the future. Jo and Dave were great hosts with everything you could need supplied to get you started! 5*

The accommodation was top notch and the cream tea that welcomed us was very much appreciated. A lovely few days away!

What a lovely week spent at The Old Egg Shed, perfect location for a holiday spent chilling with the dogs and brilliant weather which was just what we asked for. The property is very modern with everything you need and the hot tub was a welcome bonus after a day spent walking and enjoying the scenery. Also very grateful for the cream tea and other essentials items left for us on arrival which is enough to get you through the first night. Thank you David and Family (not forgetting Esme ?? too) who made us feel at home and gave us plenty of suggestions for places to visit and eat. Would recommend The Stumbles Inn (booking advised) and The Brendon Arms for food. Tintagel, Cardinham Woods, The Rectory Tea Rooms and The Canal Walk in Bude for long walks, also Widemouth Bay and Bude beach for the dogs.

Will definitely be back so see you soon.

The Dominic family.

Had a great week at The Old Egg Shed! This beautiful property is perfectly located in a quiet spot with easy access to Bude and the North Cornwall coast. The property was beautifully decorated with all mod cons, everything was high quality and extremely comfortable, with lovely extras such as robes and slippers and a lovely welcome pack of a cream tea and other goodies!. Really appreciated the Hot tub, the Smart Tv and the wine fridge! and everything we needed was provided. Even though it was a property for 2, it still felt spacious and homely and the owners were super kind and helpful too. Can highly recommend Bude, RHS Rosemoor gardens, Tintagel and Sandymouth and Widemouth Beaches for places to visit. The scenery is stunning in this area too and we will definitely be booking again! Thank you Dave & Jo for sharing your beautiful property with us, kindest regards, Emma & Martin.

Lovely clean modern holiday let. Great location for exploring surrounding areas. Dave and his family very welcoming. We stayed for 5 nights, it was very comfortable with all the mod cons of being at home Hot tub was a bonus after a long day out. The accommodation is lovely, its clear a lot of thought has gone into the set up of this property. Excellent amenities, the wine chiller was a huge plus for us. Thank you Dave and family we had a lovely time.
