Seal spotting with Black Pearl Boat Trips

On a sunny June afternoon in St Ives, a group of us boarded the Black Pearl for a boat trip adventure on the turquoise Cornish sea. We met the boat and our skipper Jago at Smeaton’s Pier, excited at the prospect of seeing a variety of marine life.

We headed over to Godrevy Lighthouse and although lots of us walk the coast path regularly, seeing it from the sea was eye opening, we couldn’t believe it was actually made up of two rocks rather than the one large one you see from the shore!

We saw a large group of sleepy seals basking in the sunshine on the rocks below the Lighthouse. From the Black Pearl we got a different and closer view of the seals soaking up the rays, where they stay until the tide comes over the rocks.

Here is what the team thought about the trip:

“We had the perfect time, spending a sunny afternoon on The Black Pearl in St Ives. Jago, our skipper took us from Smeaton’s Pier to Godrevy Lighthouse to see the seals basking in the sunshine on the rocks!  He was really knowledgeable about the wildlife and so we learned a lot about the seals and seabirds while enjoying bobbing around on the boat.  Would highly recommend it!”

“We had such a great trip to Godrevy Lighthouse. Our very knowledgeable skipper, Jago, told us of the history of the lighthouse and we saw some gorgeous seals basking in the sunshine. St Ives looked beautiful from the boat too – It was all a real treat. I plan to book the Mackerel fishing next time.”

“We had a fantastic time! I do not know why hadn’t done this trip before.  Now looking forward to going again and taking my family.”
