The tradition of Tom Bawcock comes from the feast or famine lifestyle of Cornwall. The story goes that it was just before Christmas; there had been no fish for weeks, the boats couldn’t get out into the raging storm, the village was starving. One man, Tom Bawcock, dared to take his boat out of the harbour’s safety. He returned with enough fish to make fish pie for the whole village.
Today, a festival takes place each year to celebrate Tom Bawcock's bravery. During the festival, Star Gazey pies are eaten in memory of this famous event.

Brilliant family cottage. Great space, parking and facilities... the table tennis table was a real bonus ?? We loved our stay and would return but we’re too slow as it’s already fully booked for next year!
Mrs Gillam Aug 2020
A great cottage - we really enjoyed our family holiday here and would happily return. The cottage is well appointed and deceptively spacious - it was plenty big enough for five of us. It is just a short walk to the beautiful and quiet Praa Sands beach. The kids loved the table tennis, table football and use of the body boards. Great for a relaxing family holiday in this beautiful part of Cornwall!
