This three bedroom cottage is just a five minute stroll from the heart of the picturesque fishing village of Mevagissey. The spacious living room is perfect for a relaxing night in, whilst an open plan kitchen and dining area opens out to a private courtyard for dining al fresco on those warm summer evenings. Close to all that Mevagissey has to offer with its quaint gift shops and cosy traditional pubs, The Saltings is a great base for families of up to six looking to immerse themselves in the laid back Cornish lifestyle.

Closely situated to many family attractions you will never be short of things to fill your time. The historical Lost Gardens of Heligan is a short ten minute drive away, where you can explore over 200 acres of magical gardens and woodland, once hidden by a veil of Ivy and brambles. The world famous Eden project is only ten miles away and a ten minute drive will take you to the unspoilt old port of Charlestown where you can often find historical tall ships resting in the harbour.

Additional information

electric central heating, steps leading down to entrance so may not suitable for those with limited mobility, narrow entrance to car park may not be suitable for wide vehicles. WiFi, one dog welcome, short breaks available.

 

The cottage is very comfortable and spacious with the lovely addition of a small courtyard to the back. The football table and duke box are a lovely touch and provide hours of entertainment. Its location is perfect being so close to the beautiful village of Mevagissy, although the approach is a very tight squeeze for most family cars.

Holidays in Mevagissey

Best known for its harbour and fishing boats, Mevagissey still boasts as being part of Cornwall’s thriving fishing industry. Fresh fish can even be bought from the hut on the harbour wall, located a short stroll from the village aquarium, once the lifeboat station. Wander around the harbour area, with its narrow streets, fascinating shops and galleries and recall its smuggling history, or just relax in the bars and restaurants and coves and on nearby beaches.

If you are lucky enough to be here during Mevagissey Feast Week in the summer, do take full advantage of the activities being held. Said to be the oldest festival in Cornwall, it attracts exhibitions, live music, parades, a fete and wonderful firework display.

There is a ferry boat which runs from end of April to beginning of October from Mevagissey to Fowey three or four times a day (don’t miss the return journey!) – journey time about 35 minutes. You may be lucky and spot some playful dolphins!

Beaches

Pentewan Beach is the nearest large sandy beach situated a little north of Mevagissey. Please note that dogs are not allowed on the beach from 1 March to 1 November.

Polstreath Beach is also known as Mevagissey beach. It is located just north of Mevagissey and is accessed via the coastal path and steep steps down to the cove. 

Walks

There are some wonderful walks in and around Mevagissey, especially if you take the coastal path. You can head south to Gorran Haven, a small fishing village just two miles from Mevagissey. Alternatively, if you travel north, you can head towards Pentewen, another small village with a lovely beach. From Pentewen, you can take the trail through the woods, or if you prefer, you can hire a bike from Pentewen to explore the woodland on wheels.

Local events

Falmouth Beer Festival

Always a popular event, the Beer Festival takes places annually at the Princess Pavillions. Admission includes a commemorative festival glass and offers over 250  cask ales, 100 ciders and perries, fruit wines and bottled beers.

Truro City of Lights

A festival of light delights the crowds who line the streets to see a parade of giant handmade lanterns. All manner of samba, brass and pipe bands process alongside, accompanied by flamboyant dancers. Further outdoor music performances take place throught the evening and there are many a food and drink stall at which to pick up a tasty snack or warming drink.
