This is the second time we have stayed at Towan Penthouse and am pleased to say the view is just as good as before! We loved watching all the dogs running along the beach and also watching the surfers. Would recommend taking binoculars. The location of the apartment is good and can be accessed by a road at the rear. The apartment is well-equipped, comfortable and everything was in good working order. There is a lift in case the stairs are too onerous. Eating Out - would recommend the Fish House at Fistral Bay (we went there twice, as it was so good). Newquay is an ideal location to visit the rest of Cornwall. We spent a day in Bodmin - also visiting Bodmin Jail, where my great, great, great, great, great uncle was hanged for murder. We also had a day trip (by bus) to Truro where we visited the excellent Farmer’s Market. We spent a day on the Lizard Peninsula (40 mins by car). Also visited Padstow for the day - all these locations were easily accessible from Newquay.

March 2022

We had an exceptional stay. Waking up to the sounds of waves lapping against the cliffs and watching the surfers ride the swells every day whilst having your morning coffee was a very nice change of scenery. You can easily watch the day go by, sitting on the balcony. The location is also a great base to explore along the coast and a perfect place to return to after an eventful day of activities and walks. We would likely return if we ever visit this part of Cornwall again.

Holidays in Newquay

Holidays in Newquay are all about stunning scenery, beaches, and, of course, waves. As it’s the surf capital of the UK, you’ll find an abundance of surf shops and schools allowing you to immerse yourself in the surfing culture from the moment you arrive, whether you just want to watch or get stuck in.

However, if surfing isn’t for you, there are plenty of ways to fill the days while staying in the stunning beachside town of Newquay. Head to one of the many beaches for a family day on the sand - picture rock pooling, picnics, and sandy toes! Or, if you fancy a bit of retail therapy, the bustling town has a selection of independent shops selling an array of goods including clothes, artwork, and delightful handmade treats – not to mention a mouth-watering selection of cafés, bars, and restaurants for a mid-shopping or post-beach refuel.

Newquay also has a selection of attractions and events, perfect for the kids (and big kids) from a wild and wonderful zoo to a round of golf by the sea. There are also some great walks in the area thanks to the beautiful South West Coast Path, perfect for a dog-friendly Cornish getaway.

Did you know...

Newquay has nine sandy beaches to choose from!

Beaches in Newquay

When staying at a holiday cottage in Newquay, you won’t be short of aquatic adventures, with lots of sandy beaches on your doorstep. All of Newquay’s beaches are lifeguarded in the summer, providing a safe place to spend the day soaking up the sun.

Fistral beach – What do you call the best beach for surfing in the UK? Fistral! With the most consistent surfing in the country and great swathes of golden sand, there’s little doubt as to why surfers flock here from all over the place. You’ll find a surf school and wetsuit hire for those wanting to travel light and it’s dog friendly all year round for those travelling with furry companions.

Watergate Bay – Second on Newquay’s surfing scoreboard, Watergate Bay offers a seriously spacious alternative to Fistral whether you fancy a surf, a stroll or a hot chocolate in the beachside café.

Crantock beach – If you prefer a quieter beach backed by sand dunes then Crantock beach won’t disappoint. Dog-friendly and perfectly sheltered on the southern end, this sandy haven is popular with families and anyone looking for a place to doze in the sand.

Newquay Towan – Right in the centre of the town, Newquay Towan is great for quick dips and sandy escapes while you explore the surrounding shops, attractions, and perhaps even a bar or two!

Great Western, Porth, Whipsiderry, Tolcarne, Lusty Glaze, and Mawgan Porth are also fantastic beaches in Newquay. Read all about them in our extended guide and discover your favourite!

Things to do in Newquay

With quick access to the rugged north Cornish coast and some fun-fuelled attractions and activities, there are lots of great things to do in Newquay.

Surfing & Watersports

Whether you’re a first-timer or a seasoned pro, the beaches of Newquay offer something for every ability, weather forecast, and tide. And it’s not just surfing on offer either. Bring your own seafaring devices or hire kayaks and paddleboards from one of the many rental shops around.

Attractions

With such an abundance of attractions in and around Newquay, it’s the perfect place for a family holiday at any time of year. Newquay Zoo offers a great day out, as do the nearby Screech Owl Sanctuary and the Blue Reef Aquarium. For those who love animals and theme park rides, Dairyland Farm Park is the place to be while Trerice Manor House offers a beautiful walk through history.

If you fancy something a bit different, fishing trips and sea safaris are available, from which you can take in the scenery from a different angle. You may even be lucky enough to catch a sight of seals and dolphins!

Newquay Golf Club overlooks Fistral beach and is regarded as one of the best golf courses in the county, providing a different challenge every day depending on the weather, all with incredible sea views.

Shopping

From beach supplies to holiday mementoes, Newquay’s streets are lined with lots of interesting shops from big names to independent favourites. Unsurprisingly, there are plenty of surf shops where you can fill up your beachy wardrobe including Married to the Sea, Boardwalk Surf Shop, Watershed, and Ann’s Cottage – some even have surfboards too so you can really kit yourself out. Razzmatazz is an eclectic mix of fun, holiday take-homes and Lucky Go Happy provides a lovely selection of ethical bits and bobs for the whole family.

If you’ve got a sweet tooth, a trip to Roly’s Fudge Pantry or Cornish Cream will see it satisfied as you’ll find a fantastic array of Cornish chocolates, fudge, and even Cornish cream tea hampers (which make for the ultimate beachside picnic).

Walks

With the north Cornish coast right on your doorstep, it will come as little surprise that Newquay is jam-packed with incredible walks. Walk around Park Head (which you might recognise from Poldark) and Pentire Steps for some stunning coastal views or trudge along to Lappa Valley where you can swap the rippling blue of the sea for the dappled shade of the woods. You’ll also find a lovely area around the Porth Reservoir and surrounding wildlife reserve, giving wildlife watchers plenty of opportunities to whip the binoculars out.

Dining out

Newquay's vibrant foodie scene has grown and grown over the years, with the town now offering something for every taste and occasion. If you want to eat out, you’ll find a huge selection of eateries, including many beach cafés and restaurants serving up locally caught seafood. Or, if you fancy something special after a day surfing the waves, check out the many fantastic fine dining options or cocktail bars for a relaxing drink.

If you want to stay in and make the most of your lovely home from home, there are some excellent farmshops and delis in the area, including the welcoming Trevilley Farm for all your locally-produced needs or Malcolm Barnecutt Bakery for some seriously moreish fresh bakes.

Watergate Bay – With miles of sand and lots of rockpools and caves to sniff out at low tide, this dog-friendly beach is a favourite with dogs and humans alike.

Whipsiderry beach – Considered a hidden gem by many, dogs are welcome throughout the year on Whipsiderry so why not take a dog-nap in the sand before checking out those rock formations!

Mawgan Porth beach – with Bedruthan Steps a short walk away and lots of sand for zoomies, the beach at Mawgan Porth is great for tuckering out the pooch (and the kids).

You can also see these beaches from the water, as many of the boat trips in the area welcome seadogs aboard!

Dog-friendly pubs and restaurants

When it comes to dinner time, there are plenty of dog-friendly pubs, restaurants and cafés where the whole pack can shake the day off and refuel.

Lewinnick Lodge – Perfectly placed up on the cliffs on the Pentire Headland, Lewinnick Lodge offers sea views with your meal, whether it’s breakfast, lunch or evening drinks with the pooch by your side.

The Old Albion Inn – 400 years old with no signs of slowing down, The Old Albion has truly perfected its welcoming atmosphere. Enjoy the thatched roof as you enter and the fully-stocked bar when you’re inside.

Perfect luxury apartment. With views guaranteed to make you feel good. Andrew Dorrat

Loved our holiday! Excellent Apartment, beautiful view of the beach private parking Close to everything in walking distance Beautifully furnished and clean and modern Everything we needed

Amazing apartment overlooking Newquay beach with fantastic views. The apartment had a great modern decor which was well equipped and super clean and comfy. Would 100% recommend staying here especially for couples who are after a romantic weekend away!

Wonderful apartment situated facing the beach and water. It was well furnished, in close proximity to the town and managed by a great team.

This apartment is amazing, it has everything you need and an amazing view. Very easy to collect keys etc there is a place to store your body boards and beach stuff. Excellent would definitely recommend and will be back

Fabulous apartment in an amazing location, sea views incredible. If you’re a light sleeper it’s not for you

We are glad that you liked it. You really do get the best of both worlds, being so close to the sea, yet just an equally short stroll to all the great shops, bars, and restaurants in Newquay. Being in such a great location can come with a little noise, so we try to make this as clear as we can within the description, as it may not be suit everyone, but for those who don't mind being in the hustle and bustle of the town, it really is an ideal place to get to experience all that Newquay has to offer. Tanya, Customer Services

I had never heard of aspect holidays before, but if all of their properties are to the standard of this apartment, we will definitely be using again. The service was great and a lovely touch to be contacted during our stay to make sure everything was OK.

Beautiful property that puts a smile on your face every morning when you walk into the kitchen. The views are insane!! Fantastic location too! Beautifully furnished really luxurious. And would love to come back next year. Street noise wasn’t really an issue but we stayed mid week. Would definitely benefit with air conditioning.

A beautiful property, well positioned for the beach and town. Fabulous view, would recommend to anyone.

We have enjoyed a wonderful few days in this apartment despite very unsettled weather. Wonderful views of the beach and harbour. Everything we needed so close by. Very nicely furnished and very clean. Hope we can stay here again soon.

Beautiful apartment with great view. A feel good holiday.

We loved this apartment we are a family of four our sons are adults and came with us as it has been a funny year with the pandemic we had a fortnight booked in may and that is on hold till next year but wanted a week away and i saw this apartment and i am so glad i booked it good quality furnishings very well equipt everything you could need is in that apartment the view is one of the best and we can not wait to return

The best part of this apartment is it’s amazing view. Aways something to watch, be it surfers, swimmers or boats in and out of the harbour. It is well equipped and comfortable. Easily accessible parking and lift if required. Shops and bars of Newquay are 2 mins walk away. You could easily not use your car for your whole stay as everything is on your doorstep but there are also lots of nice places to visit in either direction along the coast Hard to fault this lovely apartment. Hope to return again

Wow!!! What a wonderful holiday in the most perfect location. Waking up every morning to the view was sensational. Perfectly located in the middle of Newquay, so close to everything you would need. We can’t wait to stay here again!

Towan Penthouse is a beautiful, very modern and stylish apartment with great views over Towan Beach. There is a some audible non-offensive noise from nearby restaurants, but people are on holiday and trying to have fun. It met our expectations and was accurately described on the website

Thank you for your comments and so glad to hear that you liked it here. Being in such a fantastic location, you may hear some of the hustle and bustle of the town at times, but we are glad that you agree that it is absolutely worth it for the amazing views and being just a few steps from everything that Newquay has to offer. Hopefully see you again soon! Lucy, Customer Services.

Beautiful apartment, excellent view, spotless And close to all amenities. Definitely will recommend to friends.

The apartment is a front line penthouse with amazing uninterrupted views. The standard of accommodation is 5*.

All restaurants/amenities in Newquay are within walking distance, Fistral beach is 15 mins walk. Its a great base to explore Cornwall.

There is some noise in bedrooms at night from bars/clubs

Would recommend this apartment.

Thank you for your review. Great to hear how much you liked Towan Penthouse, it certainly is a stunning property. When choosing somewhere that offers everything you could want within walking distance of your doorstep, the occasional sound of hustle and bustle comes with that location, but we are so pleased that the panoramic views of the north coast made this a destination you will be recommending. Hope to see you again soon. Lucy, Customer Services

Had a fantastic stay at this apartment in Feb half term. The apartment is well equipped and the views onto the sea are amazing! The only suggestion I would make is to arrive either early or late as to get to the apartment you need to drive into the busy town which can be quite stressful for some! Other than that had the best time here.

Reply from Aspects Holidays

Great to hear that you had such a good time, and we're glad to hear how much you enjoyed those fantastic views; they are certainly pretty special! Newquay can be quite busy at certain times, so many choose to arrive at times that may avoid some traffic. Although the parking space at the property can't be used until 3pm on your arrival day, we would be happy to advise on locations of the nearest public car parks. We hope to see you back here again soon. Tanya, Customer Services

Fabulous apartment. One of the best we have stopped in - if not the best for the money.

Would definitely recommend

Excellent in all respects well worth the money

This is a new apartment which is very tastefully furnished, well-equipped, close to all amenities and provides an incredible sea view which is the main reason we chose this property. Waking up to the sea view each morning and enjoying coffee on the balcony was a delight. My two young daughters settled in very quickly and they didn't want to leave when our break had finished. The owner has equipped the property more than adequately for families with young children and it was good to see the guard rails we could use to stop our 3 year old falling out of bed, a nice touch. The welcome gift was a lovely touch too and we really enjoyed the scones, jam and Cornish clotted cream as well as the Roly's fudge that was left. I can't fault the apartment itself and rate it very highly and we will return.

Please note there is noise from bars in the vicinity at night time, especially at the weekends and high season, so if you want to keep your windows open or use the balcony in the evening you will hear some noise from people enjoying themselves (not music) and I will stress that it didn't affect our stay. If you want an incredible sea view and easy access to amazing beaches in a contemporary apartment in a lively town with lots to do for all ages, go for it, you won't be disappointed.

Excellent , nothing more to ad . Ray & Kerry
