Dog friendly holidays

Dog friendly holidays

Cornwall is the perfect destination for dog owners. From secluded wooded areas, to vast open spaces and long sandy beaches, dog walking in Cornwall is a real treat; the options are endless!

Bringing your dog on holiday is both a cheaper, and more enjoyable alternative to leaving your beloved furry companion in a kennel for the duration of your stay.

For a small additional charge of £38, you can enjoy the company of your pet in the comfort of your own pet friendly holiday cottage.

This charge goes to the owner to go towards keeping the cottage clean for the inevitable additional wear and tear a dog may create!

Dog walks

Exploring Cornwall with your dog is a true delight. The South West coast path offer stunning views of the rugged Cornish coastline, with access to many dog-friendly beaches such as Porthtowan, while inland walks provide the perfect place to explore moorland, visit ancient stone circles and woodland. It truly is doggy paradise.

Dog friendly holidays are perfect taken in the off season when restrictions are lifted on many popular beaches. However, visit in summer and many designated beaches welcome dogs too, so you can be sure to find a place for you and your dog to enjoy at any time of year.

With so many dog friendly places to visit you’ll be spoilt for choice. Porthtowan beach is perfect for dog walking with its wide sandy beach backed by sand dunes and cliffs, as is Gwithian St Gothian Nature reserve, with plenty of trails towards Gwithian beach.

Dog friendly attractions

When holidaying with your pooch, you can be sure there are a variety of attractions that welcome pets in Cornwall. From the Cornish Seal Sanctuary to the Minack Theatre, you won’t be left worrying about where to take your dog on a family day out. Certain attractions do not welcome pets however, so it is worth checking beforehand to avoid disappointment.  For a list dog friendly days out click here.

Many restaurants, pubs and cafes in Cornwall are dog friendly too, with many providing bowls of water outside for your dog to quench its thirst.

Things to remember:

Don’t forget to bring with you essentials for your stay, such as dog bed, leads, toys etc. Although some properties do provide these, it’s worth checking with us beforehand.

Look out for steep cliffs, mine shafts, adders, and beware of strong ocean currents, which can all be a hazard when exploring with your dog in Cornwall.

Dogs are not permitted on certain beaches during the summer months, but there are dog-friendly beaches that welcome dogs all year round. The ban excludes guide dogs for the blind which are permitted all year round. To read more about dog restrictions click here.
