Smeaton Cottage The Wharf, St Ives

Smeaton Cottage is a perfectly positioned property for a family or friends, spread over three floors, with the most amazing sea views which you can see from every room except one. No matter what time of day or year it is, you can see the sun and moon rise, watch the waves crash against Godrevy lighthouse, and enjoy the activity of boats and seals without leaving the comfort of cottage. Needless to say, you can hop out of your front door to the shops, beaches, bars and restaurants with ease.

A quirky and characterful cottage in probably the best location in St Ives with uninterrupted sea and harbour views- literally 6 steps from the front door to the harbour wall .

Perfect for those who - like me - prefer appropriately comfortable decor and furnishings in keeping with an old cottage to over developed modernity.

St Ives Harbour

The Wharf, otherwise known as St Ives harbour, is a hive of activity throughout the year. With a continual hustle and bustle on the water and along the harbour front, there is always plenty to do and see while self catering at the Wharf, even at the quieter times of the year.  It’s an ever changing scene so perfect for those artists among you. Don’t forget about the very sheltered, sandy Harbour Beach, a perfect sun-trap in the heart of town and a great place to find seaglass and sea pottery! As night falls at the end of another perfect day, St Ives comes alive with a selection of bars, restaurants and cafés to suit every pocket and every taste in a truly cosmopolitan atmosphere.

Things to do at the Wharf

Boat Trips

Why not enjoy the scenery by boat and explore the coastline with an excursion with St Ives Boat Trips. Fishing trips are available for those looking for a bit of adventure, or for a more relaxing experience, a visit to seal island lets you see seals basking on the rocks at certain times of year.

Eating and Drinking

The Wharf is home to a wide selection of restaurants and cafes, serving up fresh fish and chips to gourmet burgers, with something to suit everyone. Enjoy an ice cream or Cornish pasty and watch the world go by on the harbour front, but remember to keep your wits about you; seagulls in St Ives are renowned for swooping in and stealing food right from your hands!

Smeaton's Pier

From here you'll get a stunning view of the harbour, and an up close view of the crystal clear waters. At the entrance to the pier you'll find St Leonard's Chapel; originally dedicated for local fisherman, it is now a museum and memorial for the fisherman of St Ives.

Lifeboat station

Home to the new £1.5 million lifeboat, the RNLI lifeboat station is a popular attraction for visitors to St Ives. The gift shop next door sells souvenirs where all profits go towards helping to save lives at sea.

The cottage is rather dated with very little storage space and no wardrobes. The location is excellent with lovely views from every window.

Reply from Aspects Holidays

Thank you for your comments; we are glad that you enjoyed the fantastic location and stunning views, but sorry to hear that the style of decor and amount of storage was not what you had expected. We offer a wide range of properties that we hope will meet the different budgets and the differing tastes, needs and requirements of individuals; though you should always expect these to be well maintained and meet a certain standard. We would always aim to be as honest and transparent as possible with our descriptions and photos, and try to show the style of property, furnishings and decor clearly in our pictures and hope that we have done that in this instance. Whilst all past feedback has been very positive, we will be carrying out a full inspection of the property soon to check that it is still in line with what guests would expect for the price. Thanks again for your feedback and we hope that we will see you back here again soon. Tanya, Customer Services

Wonderful cottage right in the centre of St Ives. Views from the cottage are fabulous! The top lounge has the views of the harbour and the bay. Great for watching the busy life of the harbour even on a rainy day.

You can’t go anywhere in this cottage without having a view of the sea and being able to sit watch and listen to st Ives is a bonus to a relaxing holiday. We saw seals gannets and life boat drill from the comfort of our chairs For those chill spring evenings the central heating and log burner add further comfort
