Farmer's Meadow is a lovely house where you can really feel at home. It is good value for money, nicely furnished and decorated. It has the advantage of a parking space, a lovely garden and a woodburner. What we really appreciated was that it is very quiet but nevertheless conveniently located for the shops (3 minutes walk), restaurants and pubs. It has a few minor disadvantages (no washing machine or dishwasher, a bath but no real shower), but for a couple of weeks' stay you can put up with that. (There is a launderette at the casino in Penzance). Another plus is that it is dog-friendly.

Experience the buzz of a thriving, hardworking harbour and taste the freshest fish on offer in Cornwall. The harbour is overlooked by white washed and granite Cornish fisherman’s cottages interwoven by narrow lanes and cobbled alleys often too steep or narrow for a car so all you will find is the odd cat basking in the sunshine. Enjoy the buzz of Newlyn’s working harbour, visit Newlyn Art Gallery or the wonderful established gardens with breath-taking views across to the iconic Penzance Jubilee Pool.
The Newlyn School is a group of artists who came to live and work in Newlyn or the surrounding area between the 1880s and the early twentieth century. They painted en plein air (in the open air). Perhaps best known are: Stanhope Forbes, Elizabeth Forbes, Walter Langley, Harold Knight, Laura Knight, Harold Harvey. There is much documentation about the school at Penlee House.
The collection is kept at Penlee House rather than the Newlyn Gallery because Newlyn Gallery maintains a tradition of showing modern art.

While self catering in Newlyn, why not leave the car behind and take the gorgeous mile-long walk along the promenade to the famous harbour town of Penzance. To indulge your inner shopperholic you'll find a whole host of shops in the town centre. Our tip would be to pay a visit to the famous Chapel Street for some great independent shops - and then relax in one of the town’s many cafes and bars.

The tradition of Tom Bawcock comes from the feast or famine lifestyle of Cornwall. The story goes that it was just before Christmas; there had been no fish for weeks, the boats couldn’t get out into the raging storm, the village was starving. One man, Tom Bawcock, dared to take his boat out of the harbour’s safety. He returned with enough fish to make fish pie for the whole village.
Today, a festival takes place each year to celebrate Tom Bawcock's bravery. During the festival, Star Gazey pies are eaten in memory of this famous event.

4 Farmers Meadow is a lovely little cottage. Comfortable, clean and welcoming, it was a great base for our stay in Cornwall. I’d definitely book 4 Farmers Meadow again!
Miss Charter Jul 2020
A really comfy warm cottage which I would definitely book again. The weather was rainy and cold in February so it was wonderful to light the wood burner and stay in. The garden was perfect for my dog to potter in. Parking was a great bonus. There were 2 adults in our party and one small dog and it was a perfect size.
Ms Ruane Mar 2020
We had a lovely stay in this cosy cottage. Garden was ideal for dog, good woodburner, comfy beds and nicely furnished and well equipped. Parking space a bonus and very convenient for everything in Newlyn!
Miss Taylor Nov 2019
We had a lovely week here. The cottage was clean and comfortable and well equipped. It also has a parking space. The cottage is situated in the centre of the town so handy for the beach, park, pubs and restaurants, which were dog friendly. The bus service is good too.
Mr Ward Oct 2019
This is a lovely cottage, in a great location. It has everything you need and we appreciated the welcome package of tea, coffee, milk, afternoon tea etc. Everything has been thought though. We didn’t want to leave and felt like we could live there!
Ms Taylor Sep 2019
We had a lovely week in Newlyn . We used 4 farmers meadow as a base as we like to travel around and visit places whilst in Cornwall . Nice accessible walk along the sea front from the cottage . Lots of little shops , eateries etc within walking distance . Pretty harbour also . Very cosy , clean , quirky cottage . Perfect for a family and a dog . A little on the small side for older children as second bedroom is small , however the beds are comfy .
Mrs Goodman Sep 2019
A fabulous week in a lovely homely, clean cottage. Newlyn is a busy and interesting village with a few nice shops and pubs. We would stay again.
Mrs Wakeford Sep 2019
A really lovely place to stay. Close to lots of nice beaches and interesting places to visit. We visited St Michael’s Mount, Penzance, Mousehole, St Ives, Falmouth and lots of local beaches (Praa Sands was our favourite). The house is tastefully furnished and the garden is a nice place to sit in the evening. The stairs are very steep, so I wouldn’t recommend the cottage for very young children, unless a stair-gate is fitted. We would definitely return another time, we had a lovely week.

Thank you for your comments and it is great to hear how much you liked 4 Farmers Meadow. A lot of the more traditional Cornish cottages are packed full of character inside and out, but often a little smaller and layouts/stairs more quirky and steeper than in more modern buildings, so it is definitely an important consideration when booking a property like this. We would always want to be as open and honest as possible, and try to give an accurate representation of properties within our photos and descriptions, and are sorry that we hadn't previously noted the stairs. We have now amended the website notes to state that the stairs are steep. Thanks again for the feedback, and hopefully we will see you back here again soon. Tanya, Customer Services
This cottage is ideally located only a few minutes walk into newlyn and perfect for exploring the surrounding areas. The property is beautifully decorated and has it's own safe & secluded garden & parking space! Ideal for a couple or a family with small children.
