Holidays in Mousehole

Mousehole is an idyllic village and fishing port with quaint cobbled streets full of bistros and art-galleries. Sit on the harbour and admire views of St Michael’s Mount or take a short drive to nearby Marazion to walk along the golden sands.

Mousehole is a great community with a fantastic atmosphere, and self catering in Mousehole is effortless. Enjoy afternoon tea at the Tremayne Tea Room or sit down for an evening meal at 2 Fore Street, a French bistro-style restaurant on Mousehole harbour front. Finish off your evening with a pint of local ale at the Ship Inn, one of the famous St Austell Brewery establishments. For more info, read our blog post on Eating out in Mousehole.

Things to do in Mousehole

Mousehole is best when entered on foot, or bus, or bike. Cars are not the way to see Mousehole and best left outside. If you have to bring a car, there’s a big car park on the Penzance side of the village, close to The Old Coastguard Hotel.

Christmas lights

Mousehole has celebrated Christmas with beautiful lights for 40 years! The village is a winter wonderland in the dark nights and grey seas of winter. Many villages have light shows today but Mousehole is special. Holiday cottages overlooking the harbour always enjoy an extra special Cornish Christmas. Read more on our blog about Mousehole lights.

Walks around Mousehole

For those who are not so content with staying in their holiday homes, the walks around Mousehole are a joy all year round.  There are some fabulous circular walks but we think there's something particularly satisfying about catching a bus from Mousehole and walking back in (especially if your walk exits the village in a north of westerly direction; you'll soon discover the town is nestled at the bottom of a very steep hill!)  Read our blog on Mousehole Walks.

Coasteering in Mousehole

If you're seeking adrenaline and adventure, check out Coasteering Adventures.

Mousehole is one of Cornwall’s top Coasteering destinations. Nestled in the shelter of Mounts Bay, Mousehole offers multiple coasteering routes for all ages and abilities. Coasteering Adventures are thrilled to be the exclusive provider of coasteering from this location. Book an adventure and you will experience cliff jumping, sea swimming, climbing, bouldering, exploring caves and floating through gullies. With each session tailored to the group, you can choose the level that you are comfortable with.

Dating back to the 13th century Mousehole has a rich history tying it to the sea. 1595 saw all but 1 house (which still stands today) burned to the ground by the Spanish armada. 100 Years later Mousehole became a haven for the ‘Barbary Pirates’ with a number of caves on the route being where their treasure was hidden. During the 1800’s Mousehole settled into a thriving fishing village and you’ll regularly see the small fishing boats from Mousehole pass our groups whilst out on route.

Mousehole Sea Salts & Sail Festival

Taking place every two years, this maritime festival celebrates Mousehole's fishing heritage with traditional sailing boat races and many other activities and entertainment for the whole family. 2014 was the festival's tenth biennial festival, taking place on the 11th, 12th & 13th July.  Read our blog post from the event here: Sea Salts and Sail Festival.

A brief history of Mousehole

Today Mousehole is beautiful and welcoming holiday destination This popular holiday destination has seen more than its fair share of hardtimes tragedy over the years.

The Quay was built in 1392, holding the harbour like a pair of protective arms. Fishing was always important to Mousehole. These days there are fewer boats fishing from the village but there is an active fishing fleet operating out of nearby Newlyn, a town worth a visit on its own account. Read more about the History of Mousehole on our blog.

Places to visit near Mousehole

Venture near or far, with NewlynPorthcurno and Marazion all within a short drive or the cobbled streets of St Ives and the surfing beach of Sennen a little further away. Visit Penzance town to do some light shopping or head to Jubilee Pool to cool down after a long day of exploring. Tom Bawcock's Eve, Mousehole

Every year, the people of Mousehole celebrate the bravery of Tom Bawcock. Years ago, when the boats couldn't get out in the storms, the villages had no fish to eat. Tom dared to take his boat out and returned with enough fish to make a Star Gazey fish pie for the whole village.

Beautiful property great location everything you could want will be back again.

Lovely location in heart of village. Just round the corner from a little deli. Upstairs bedroom light and airy, ideal location to read with a cup of tea. Downstairs was rather dark and dreary.

It really is such a fantastic location, just a short stroll to everything in Mousehole. The property and the village itself are just full of charm. With that character and charm in these traditional properties, you can find some quirky layouts and it is not uncommon for rooms to be a little darker than in more modern houses, but the owners have tried to make the most of this character, keeping a cottage feel but with boutique furnishings. The kitchen and furnishings downstairs may make it feel a little darker and may not be to everyone's taste, but we hope that you agree that the quality of what the owners provide is fantastic and make it a great base for exploring this beautiful area. We do hope that you had a great time. Tanya, Customer Services

2nd time at old market house 5 times we’ve stoped in moushole lovely place gift shops, cafe unbelievable that’s the pool cafe, there’s a new deli that’s opened fantastic we are going back in November to mousehole and Penzance in august love it x

After a 7 hour journey it was lovely to arrive to such a lovely cottage. Despite being a character cottage it had high ceilings which was a great relief to my husband who is 6’ 2” Fabulous super king sized bed. The Ship Inn, No 2 Fore street and Hole Food, provided lovely places to eat. Sue & Rob

Recently stayed in Mousehole at The Old Market House , very pretty , spotlessly clean . Very well equipped kitchen etc . Aspect holidays kept in touch to make sure everything was ok . Very well organized and simple arrival and access to cottage . Would definitely use Aspect again .

We had a fantastic stay the cottage is so lovely everything was perfect all a very high standard location was great can’t wait to stay again !!
Thankyou aspect holidays it was our first stay with you we will definitely book with you again Hayley & Martyn

Nice property. Good location. Great for a 2 or 3 day break. Next time we'd book anything longer I a place with outside space and kitchen facilities. Nowhere to put food or dry clothes . Had tge same towels all week so for these reasons I wouldn't book this property again and would clarify towel change.

We are glad that you enjoyed it and that it worked well for the time that you were here. With so many beautiful places to explore nearby, an outside area isn't something that everyone wants when visiting this area, but we know that it is important for others, so please do not hesitate to get in touch with us if you are ever returning to the area. We are always happy to help with finding the most suitable properties for your needs. As a self-catered property with washing facilities provided, owners will generally only provide one bath towel and one hand towel per person for the week. We can organise a towel and linen change for longer bookings, but these are not carried out on weeklong bookings or shorter. We are sorry if this had not been what was expected, and we hope that it didn't cause too much of a problem for you. Tanya, Customer Services

A very clean, tidy, and comfortable house. It all made for a very enjoyable week in Mousehole. Everything was exactly as your brochure stated. We would happily stay again!

An absolutely perfect place to stay, very comfortable, and had all that we needed to enjoy our week. Just a couple of minutes walk from the harbour and its shops. The Hole Foods deli did an excellent take away menu and also a good range of other food and gluten free options. We visited whilst still in partial lockdown so the pub was not open. Mousehole is a great location from which to explore this part of Cornwall.

Fantastic place to stay for 2 people in a lovely area also brilliant customer service only slight issue is parking would definitely book again from Ian and hansa

Great location, very smart accommodation

Stayed for 5 nights in the Old Market House, Mousehole. Cottage was well decorated, with a cosy interior, plenty of facilities including for breakfast and dinner. The location was also fantastic only 30 seconds walk from the harbour. Thanks to Aspects Holidays for a wonderful stay, including the nice added surprise touches left for our arrival. Check in was also super simple and quick. Would certainly recommend.

Although cut short by the second lockdown we had a great time at this property. It has been our first holiday booked with Aspects and I will not hesitate to book with them again. Highly recommended.

The cottage is small but more than adequate for two and well equipped. The bedroom is spacious and the big bed very comfy. Location is excellent with just a short stroll into the village where there is a fabulous restaurant handy little deli and general store along with a great pub and lovely gift shops. Parking was a bit of an issue but was very reasonable at £3 for 24 hours. Would definitely go again.

The property was really comfortable and spotlessly clean. Whilst being narrow it was excellent for the two of us. Well equipped and the most comfortable bed. Very close to the harbour in this lovely fishing village. Recommended for a lovely break.

Excellent house in good location within Mousehole hope to return soon.

We had a lovely, three night stay at The Old Market House in Mosehole in mid January. Despite the cold, damp weather the property was warm and cosy. The property was very welcoming and well equipped, spotlessly clean and immediately felt like home. We loved Mousehole with its quaint and quirky streets and beautiful tiny harbour. Even in January it was busy and interesting. We will return!

Absolutely fantastic property. Plenty of space for a Couple and their dog! The pictures doesn’t do this property justice! It’s much bigger than you expect!

Excellent service from Aspects holidays. Accommodation really lovely throughout. Decor and cleanliness to an outstanding standard. Location also excellent, Mousehole is beautiful. As is the whole area, with public transport easily accessible. We will definitely return. Many thanks Lorraine Edwards Derbyshire

This cottage is beautiful so comfortable and spotless. It was a step away from the shops harbour cafes and pub.. perfect. The service was outstanding as always , a real gem. We will definitely book again.

The Old Market House is very light and bright inside and a very easy walk to the harbour. It is really spacious inside and beautifully presented. All the furnishings are very comfortable. The only downside for me was how close cars get to the lounge windows when passing on the lane outside, however this was only noticeable during the day and the windows do have thin blinds which still let the light in when down. Overall a lovely stay at the Old Market House

We are glad to hear that you liked it there. Being right in the heart of the old fishing village of Mousehole, you will find that the roads are very narrow, as they were only built with horses and carts in mind at the time. This will mean that traffic passes close to the houses down these little streets, but the traffic is slow moving and as a result, generally not too noisy as they go past. We hope that you agree that this is a very small compromise for being in such a fantastic location in this characterful village, where you are literally steps to the harbour and the cute little cafes and individual shops in the village. It's also a fantastic spot to access the southwest coast path; the walks and views that stretch of the path are just beautiful. It certainly sounds like you had a great time here; we hope to see you back. Tanya, Customer Services

We had a fantastic week at The Old Market House. Everything was perfect and we loved the stable door! Well equipped and comfortable. 2 mins walk to the harbour and parking
