St Gothian Nature Reserve
What was once a commercial sand quarry, this site has since been declared as a nature reserve. The habitat has been improved with the addition of a large pool and other smaller pools which have been fenced off, creating a safe place for wildfowl and waders. Perfect for bird watching. Dog walkers are asked to keep dogs on a lead so as to not disturb the wildlife.
Walking
From Gwithian, you can walk the South West Coast Path all the way to St Ives, and experience some beautiful scenery along the way. Pass through Hayle and Lelant before finally arriving at St Ives Harbour. The walk takes approximately 6 hours so be sure to bring supplies!

The tradition of Tom Bawcock comes from the feast or famine lifestyle of Cornwall. The story goes that it was just before Christmas; there had been no fish for weeks, the boats couldn’t get out into the raging storm, the village was starving. One man, Tom Bawcock, dared to take his boat out of the harbour’s safety. He returned with enough fish to make fish pie for the whole village.
Today, a festival takes place each year to celebrate Tom Bawcock's bravery. During the festival, Star Gazey pies are eaten in memory of this famous event.

Just had two weeks at Wey Up. We usually book at Praa Sands but fancied a different location this time. Gwithian beach is amazing as are all the tracks on the dunes for dog walking. Could never get bored walking the 100 yards to the beach for the views towards St Ives and Carbis Bay.

Thank you for your comments. Wey Up is located in a lovely, secluded area next to the sand dunes of Gwithian. There are a few other chalets nearby and a camp site a little way behind it. It is a peaceful, well kept site with a separate entrance away from the property. A map is available on our website to highlight its location for any guest wishing to check this before booking. Tanya, Customer Services.

A gem in the dunes. Wey Up has all the amenities and space of a holiday cottage but it gives you the feeling of a real beach hut/chalet. Lovely sheltered garden which was well fenced to keep the dog in and a super decking area where you can enjoy the sun all day. Just a short stroll over the dunes and you are on one of the most beautiful beaches in Cornwall. A great place for all age groups.
