Tom Bawcock's Eve, Mousehole

The tradition of Tom Bawcock comes from the feast or famine lifestyle of Cornwall.  The story goes that it was just before Christmas; there had been no fish for weeks, the boats couldn’t get out into the raging storm, the village was starving. One man, Tom Bawcock, dared to take his boat out of the harbour’s safety. He returned with enough fish to make fish pie for the whole village.

Today, a festival takes place each year to celebrate Tom Bawcock's bravery. During the festival, Star Gazey pies are eaten in memory of this famous event.

The access road is very very bad

August 2018

Reply from Aspects Holidays

Thank you for your feedback. We are sorry if the access road was worse than expected. We always aim to be completely open and honest with our descriptions and pictures, and have tried to describe the nature of the access road within the description. We are sorry if this isn't clear enough, and will certainly monitor this going forward. For anyone interested in this property, please feel free to contact us before booking, to check on its suitability, if this is a concern. We hope that you agree though that the great location and amazing views make the trip up that access road completely worth it. Tanya, Customer Services.

Great house. Very clean. Nice decor throughout. Good garden. Good location with a lovely view of the bay from the bedroom window. The only thing that lets this property down is the road leading up to it. It really is dreadful. Jeep Safari springs to mind.

We are really sorry to hear that the access road let this property down. To take advantage of such a fantastic location, enjoying those beautiful views, you have to access the property via an unmade road, which can be a bit bumpy, especially after a lot of rain. Care should be taken on approach. We are really sorry if this isn't clear enough within the description. We hope that you still enjoyed your time here, and hope that we will see you back here again soon. Tanya, Customer Services.

The view from the bungalow was lovely in the sun. Plenty of kitchen facilities and bathrooms were good for the whole family. Not ideal for older people as you have an unmade hill road to get to the property.

June 2018

This property has excellent facilities for a large family and you are able to feel at home very quickly. The view from the main bedroom and outside decking is amazing across Carbis Bay to Hayle beach. The unmade road to the property approx 200mtrs could cause problems for some drivers.
