Hawkes Point Cottage offers awe-inspiring views across Porthkidney beach over to Godrevy Lighthouse and beyond. Whether you're a larger family, a couple of friends wishing to take some time out or a pair of lovebirds wanting a taste of coastal romance, then this impressive home has it all.

Staying here you will understand why a recluse who once lived at the original cottage with his cat Spriggans, a pony and cow chose here to opt out of life's chaos. Tom Bawcock's Eve, Mousehole

The tradition of Tom Bawcock comes from the feast or famine lifestyle of Cornwall.  The story goes that it was just before Christmas; there had been no fish for weeks, the boats couldn’t get out into the raging storm, the village was starving. One man, Tom Bawcock, dared to take his boat out of the harbour’s safety. He returned with enough fish to make fish pie for the whole village.

Today, a festival takes place each year to celebrate Tom Bawcock's bravery. During the festival, Star Gazey pies are eaten in memory of this famous event.

What our guests say...

We know how important honest reviews are when it comes to booking your holiday. To help you choose the right property for you, we publish all reviews left by guests who have stayed here in the past, with the few exceptions stated in our Review Guidelines. Please bear in mind that some facilities referred to by past guests in reviews can be removed or changed at any time.

Building work being carried out in the main garden of the property we had booked and had to put up with builders parking there vehicles on the lawn and means you don’t have use when advertised that you do. Aspects were very good a dealing with the situation and made good on our disappointment.

We were so sorry that you had experienced this. This was absolutely something that you should have been pre-warned about, and we are sorry for this oversight. With the additional information that we got from you about of the number of vehicles accessing the neighbouring property, we have informed all incoming guests that may be impacted, so thanks again and we are glad that we were able to help. Tanya, Customer Services

Beautiful cottage but poor location with a very noisy train passing every hour.

We are so sorry to hear that you didn't enjoy this location. It has one of the most amazing views and is in a nice secluded spot away from all the hustle and bustle with just a few other properties around, and the south west coast path running adjacent to it. To get on to the coast path, there is a crossing, so the St Ives branch line train, whilst it passes slowly, does give a toot to warn those crossing over onto the coastal path, that it is near. We appreciate that this may not suit everyone, though equally, with nothing else down there to disturb you and those stunning views, it will be the perfect spot for others and seems to be a massive hit with younger kids, who will usually get a wave from the driver. We are sorry if it wasn't quite the right place for you, but if we can help in making other suggestions for future breaks here in Cornwall, please do not hesitate to get in touch. Tanya, Customer Services

The property itself and its stunning views make this a superb location for a holiday. Beautifully decorated, well equipped and comfortable, this house should’ve been everything we asked for. Peace and tranquility was not as advertised however, as vehicles drove through the garden a few times a day to access works on a neighbouring property. This did taint our holiday somewhat as we always choose a private and secluded location. Also be aware that a public path runs alongside the property.

We are delighted to hear how much you enjoyed this lovely property. It has one of the most amazing views there! We were sorry to hear of the additional vehicles driving in front of the property. We had been made aware by the owner that a building at the far end of the grounds, was nearing completion (end of August), and informed all guests booked in up until that time that they would require vehicular access at 9am and 5/5.30pm, with occasional supplies arriving. We are so sorry if what you experienced was in excess of this and we can only reassure you that we have been completely open with the information that we had received. I am aware that one of the team has since been in contact to discuss this further and apologise personally. We hope that you still enjoyed this amazing area and hope that we will be able to welcome you back again, perhaps after the work is complete, when you can take full advantage of the fantastic location. This is the third time we have stayed at Hawkes Point and have thoroughly enjoyed the property, views and facilities. We'll definitely be back again!

Nov 2019

Had a lovely holiday at Hawkes Point would definitely recommend it as an excellent place for families although because of the proximity of the train line children need to be supervised in the garden at all times.

Oct 2019

Lovely views

Sep 2019

Hawkes point cottage is a fantastic family sized house with everything you could possibly need to have a great holiday. Set in a beautiful position overlooking Carbis bay which in my opinion has one of the best beaches in Cornwall. St Ives is a beautiful town surrounded by 5 fantastic beaches each having somewhere to eat and drink.

Sep 2019

We had a fantastic family holiday in a great location. The views were incredible and the sounds and proximity of the sea exceeded our expectations and were truly breathtaking. The train station at Carbis Bay was a pleasant 10 minute walk away (more steep at the start) to get to St Ives without the headache of parking a car. The cottage was spacious with enough room for everyone to spread out. Even when the weather was wet for a couple of days, it didn’t spoil our enjoyment of this fabulous holiday home. We can recommend Beck’s fish and chips nearby and The Watermill restaurant, a short drive away at Lelant. A very enjoyable stay!

Aug 2019

Beautiful house with amazing views in a gorgeous location! Charming walks to empty beaches plus an easy train ride to St Ives. Railway could have more effective fencing. Waving to the trains passing was a highlight of the holiday for our young boys!

Jul 2019

The house and view were absolutely stunning! We felt lucky to be staying in such a beautiful place, with gorgeous views from almost every room. There was plenty of room for us all and the kitchen diner was perfect for picturesque family meals. The location was fantastic too, so near to Carbis bay and a only a short ride to St Ives. Would love to book again!

Aug 2018

Stunning location and view

Jul 2018

Hawkes Point Cottage is a wonderful place for a family holiday. It is spacious, light and airy and is well furnished and equipped. It has the most wonderful view over Porth Kidney Sands and over to the Hayle Estuary. You could spend your whole holiday just staring out of the window, or sitting outside, watching the sky and light change and the tide come in and out. A great place for respite but also an area with a great variety of things to do and places to go. We also recomend Becks Fish and Chips, The Bean Inn and La Casita for meals out just up the road.
