Holidays in Mevagissey

Wish you were here already? Watch our Mevagissey webcam here>

Best known for its harbour and fishing boats, Mevagissey still boasts as being part of Cornwall’s thriving fishing industry. Fresh fish can even be bought from the hut on the harbour wall, located a short stroll from the village aquarium, once the lifeboat station. Wander around the harbour area, with its narrow streets, fascinating shops and galleries and recall its smuggling history, or just relax in the bars and restaurants and coves and on nearby beaches.

If you are lucky enough to be here during Mevagissey Feast Week in the summer, do take full advantage of the activities being held. Said to be the oldest festival in Cornwall, it attracts exhibitions, live music, parades, a fete and wonderful firework display.

There is a ferry boat which runs from end of April to beginning of October from Mevagissey to Fowey three or four times a day (don’t miss the return journey!) – journey time about 35 minutes. You may be lucky and spot some playful dolphins!

Beaches

Pentewan Beach is the nearest large sandy beach situated a little north of Mevagissey. Please note that dogs are not allowed on the beach from 1 March to 1 November.

Polstreath Beach is also known as Mevagissey beach. It is located just north of Mevagissey and is accessed via the coastal path and steep steps down to the cove.

Gorran Haven beach can be reached via the coastal path, or is just a short drive away. Just two miles from Mevagissey, the quaint village of Gorran Haven has some lovely pubs and cafés, and a gorgeous sandy beach which is a great spot for swimming and kayaking.

Walks

There are some wonderful walks in and around Mevagissey, especially if you take the coastal path. You can head south to Gorran Haven, a small fishing village with a beautiful beach, just two miles from Mevagissey. Alternatively, if you travel north, you can head towards Pentewen, another small village with a lovely beach. From Pentewen, you can take the trail through the woods, or if you prefer, you can hire a bike from Pentewen to explore the woodland on wheels.

Great property very convenient would love to stay again

Beautiful house in a brilliant location - would thoroughly recommend.

We really enjoyed our stay at On The Rocks. Spacious, well equipped and cosy with lots of thoughtful extras. Excellent location. We hope to return and enjoy the outside space in the summer. The only negative was the noisy fisherman's forklift truck trundling past numerous times into the early hours one night. We haven't heard this from other properties around the village, but we do understand, as a busy fishing harbour, the work needs to be done.

A fabulous cottage in a perfect location. Everything you could need is there, a real home from home.

Fantastic house in a brilliant location. Had a lovely week and highly recommend Aspects, On the Rocks and Mevagissey!

Stay here, you will not be disappointed.

Wonderful cottage. It was stylishly decorated with some lovely homely touches. The rooms were surprisingly spacious, not what we expected in Cornwall and the provision of a parking permit was a great bonus.Beds were very comfy and it was great to have a decently equiped kitchen with helpful bits and pieces for a change.

The cottage is located on the road but road noise wasnt really a problem. We visited in October and the electric heaters and log burner kept the cottage cosy.

Location was good for easy walking to the shops and restaurants of Megavissey. Lovely walks on the coastal path from Megavissey and other local places. Lost Gardens of Heligan and Eden Project both nearby and were excellent day trips I would highly recomnend this cottage after our first visit to Cornwall

Amazing property. Stunning. Beautifully decorated and situated perfectly in Mevigassey. Amazing week spent here. So relaxing. I really didn't want to come home.

Enjoyed a wonderful week at ‘On the Rocks’ Beautiful house with an eye to style and design. Excellent central location with that much sought after outdoor space. Highly recommend

Fantastic well equipped and presented property would highly recommend a stay at On the Rocks

What a beautiful Seaside house.
The kitchen had everything you could need and more. Lovely cosy living room and dining area.
The bedrooms were a brilliant size. The bathroom had a huge shower and with a downstairs toilet too it was just perfect for all of us and a pooch. Really clean and with all the local finishing touches from Mevagissey it was just a perfect stay.

On the rocks is everything and more It is decorated and furnished with lots of thought and love ,nothing has been spared

Stayed at On the Rocks in November 2018. Really comfortable well equipped cottage which was close to shops and the harbour and the parking which was included was very close. Would definitely recommend.

Perfectly located in the heart of Mevagissey. A true home from home, we couldn't have asked for anything more. We thoroughly enjoyed our stay in this excellently equipped home, and the included parking was a fantastic bonus.
