Holidays in Mevagissey

Stay in Mevagissey and you’ll be perfectly placed to explore all that the south coast of Cornwall has to offer. Take a ferry trip to Fowey, visit the Lost Gardens of Heligan or spend a day at the beach at the nearby Pentewan Sands.

Best known for its harbour and fishing boats, Mevagissey still boasts as being part of Cornwall’s thriving fishing industry. Fresh fish can even be bought from the hut on the harbour wall, located a short stroll from the village aquarium, once the lifeboat station. Wander around the harbour area, with its narrow streets, fascinating shops and galleries and recall its smuggling history, or just relax in the bars and restaurants and coves and on nearby beaches.

There is a ferry boat which runs from end of April to beginning of October from Mevagissey to Fowey three or four times a day (don’t miss the return journey!) – journey time about 35 minutes. You may be lucky and spot some playful dolphins!

Balamory is a lovely little cottage. Great to use as a base for exploring Mevagissey and surroundings. The outdoor decking is a big plus if you get some good weather. The parking space is also a bonus but there is really only room for a small vehicle. Access is via a steep hill either side, so not for the immobile. The cottage would benefit from better cleaning. Otherwise we really enjoyed our stay.

We are so pleased you had a great returning stay at Balamory - it's a perfect location to enjoy everything Mevagissey has to offer, and we are pleased you managed to make use of the balcony, which is perfect to use all day; whether for breakfast, lunch, or an evening tipple.

The property's parking space is in the middle of 3 parking bays. This space measures 5.21m x 3.72m but should be suitable for an averaged size car (we give the guide of a VW golf), but we appreciate that this may be tight for some people.

As you've mentioned, Balamory is located on a hill in an elevated position and has 13 steps from the car park down to the property so would not be suitable for anyone with limited mobility. We try to make this as clear as possible on the website description but are always happy to advise anyone with questions before booking.

We are very sorry if the standard of cleanliness was not to the high level that you would have expected, we can only apologise if any areas had been missed. Having now received this feedback, we will be closely monitoring this, so thank you for your comments. Katy, Customer Services.

A lovely little cottage. Clean and bright

We spent a week in the beautiful house, very well located and equipped. The terrace is perfect for an evening drink as the evening sun sets in. Mevagissey harbor and the shops, pubs and restaurants are just a few minutes' walk away.

We had a fantastic stay in balamory, everything was perfect with the property we would 100% book this house again, it is up on a hill so people with mobility issues may struggle but it does give you a good chance to burn off your fish and chips while walking back up to the house! The beds were comfy and the whole was decorated lovely, absolutely nothing bad to say about balamory,

Location excellent. Not suitable for any mobility issues on account of steep steps. Parking a bonus. Beds comfortable and linen was very good quality. Lack of local information within welcome file. Some local attraction leaflets would have been useful. Crockery smelt dusty. Dead flies around windows when arrived which didn’t happen during our stay so we questioned how long it had been since it was cleaned. The lack of private outdoor space not clearly outlined prior to admission. Overall we had a lovely holiday but we were lucky with the weather. Not sure we would have enjoyed spending much time in house.

We are so sorry if the standard of cleaning was not to the high levels that you would expect. Had we been made aware at the time; we would have had the housekeeper return immediately and address any concerns. We have now passed this feedback to this owner's housekeeper, and we will keep a close eye on further feedback. The team in that area are going to have a look at the welcome folder and get that updated, and whilst a photo had been included on the website that showed the gate to the next-door property situated on Balamory's decked area, we have now specifically stated on the additional information, that the front outside area is shared access to property next door. We stayed at Balamory for 5 weeks. We had a lovely time there . Got to know the neighbours .The property is well kept and has character . Lovely comfortable beds with quality goose down duvets . I was able to work from home . Good internet . Aspect Homes replaced Dishwasher immediately. Cleaning and towels and linen plentiful . The service of the team was very good and professional

Lovely spacious terraced house . Short walk from mevigessey . Up hill though not great for elderly or inform . Quiet, nice neighbors . Lovely beds and bedding . Comfortable sofas . The terrace out the front catches the evening sun We have stayed longer 3 weeks and have been very comfortable and happy

A comfortable property in a convenient location with parking. We will be booking with Aspects Holidays again soon.

Loved our stay at Balamory. The house itself was lovely, spacious, comfy bed and had everything we needed. The location was fantastic; only a couple of minutes walk into the town. There’s a green area/park a couple of minutes walk from the house which was perfect for our dog. The patio area is also secure so he could go outside and we didn’t need to worry… it also catches the last bit of sunshine so perfect for an evening drink. Parking is a little tight as stated, however we took our BMW estate and had no issues! We would definitely recommend staying here ??

Fabulous cottage in a great location for walking into the centre of Mevagissy. Super decking area and garden furniture was a bonus. Would not hesitate to book this property again.

Helped me and family out so much after another travel company let us down. Was blessed to be referred to Aspects! they were so lovey and helpful and now we’re staying somewhere stunning. Thanks guys x

Lovely cottage - clean and very comfortable, with everything we needed for our stay. Lovely location just minutes from the village and harbour front.

Nicely situated terraced cottage with good views over the valley. Generally well- furnished with well equipped kitchen and good storage for clothes etc. Patio area to the front is very pleasant and sunny for most of the day . Spacious for two of us and fine for family of four but would be a bit tight for four adults.

Do take notice of information about access. The track up to the parking space is steep and very rough and space itself best for a smaller vehicle. There are steep steps down to the cottage and a steep path down to the road into the town.

Whilst there are enough beds to accommodate 4 adults, with a double bedroom and a twin bedroom, 2 sofas in the living area and a dining table with 4 chairs; you may find this too small for 4 adults if you are used to a lot more space. The owners have tried to ensure that guests have everything they should need though, so we hope that it worked well for you. Thank you for your helpful comments and hopefully we will see you back here again soon. Tanya, Customer Services

We loved the area and the town was only a 5 minute walk from our property witch was really good! We really enjoyed our stay whilst we explored Cornwall. Some beautiful restaurants and bars in the little town. The only thing that could have been better is the rugs could do with a shampoo or a wash.

Reply from Aspects Holidays

Thank you for your really helpful feedback. A lot can happen in properties in a short space of time, so thank you for letting us know about the rugs. We will ensure that this information is passed on to the property owner and assist them if they need us to organise trades to get those cleaned. Its great to hear that you had a fantastic time here and got the chance to explore this beautiful part of Cornwall. Thanks again. Tanya, Customer Services

A very good rent for four people. (two bedrooms - one double and one with two single beds). The cottage is very spacious for its size and the kitchen diner is very well designed so very easy to cook and eat in. The facilities are excellent eg the overn is very high quality and easy to use. The veranda decking is excelelnt with an excellent view of the town and surrownding hills. The location is excellent with easy access to local walks, resturants, bars and shops. The furniture is all very comfortable and the facilities and equipment is excellent. We really enjoyed our week even though the weather was mixed being late August.

We really liked Balamory, comfortable, spacious house, with a lovely decking area overlooking Mevagissey. Michelle as Aspects has been brilliant as always :)

The parking is tricky, especially if you have a larger vehicle.

Not a recommended property for anyone with mobility issues.

Reply from Aspects Holidays

Great to hear how much you enjoyed this property and thanks for you lovely comment; Michelle was over the moon to read that :-) The parking space is a little tight and with the steps up to the property, it may not suit those with limited mobility, so we do try to make all of this as clear as we can within the description. We hope that it was what you had expected from the details provided and that it worked well for all your party. Thanks again for your comments and we hope to see you back here again soon. Great house, amazing location, very comfortable and good size! Had a lovely week away.

Our stay was great and the location was good in terms of how close it was to the harbour. This was our second Aspects stay and I would recommend the company for holidays in Cornwall. There were a few issues that did affect our holiday a bit:

The neighbours (I think they live there) were really loud on their balcony on the day that we got there (the photos don't show how close together the balconies are). They weren't loud for the rest of the week but their dog barked constantly as they were left home alone. They also barked early in the morning. The neighbours also double parked which made it even harder for us to get out of the already tight parking space.

Most importantly, the cottage looked fairly clean but there were cobwebs everywhere! This made me wonder how well the cleaners had done their 'deep clean' to prevent the spread for COVID.

Reply from Aspects Holidays

Thank you for taking the time to send in your review. As the first booking into this property, it is really helpful to hear how you have found it, as guests get to experience properties in a very different way than we do when we visit them. We are sorry to hear that you experienced noise from the neighbours and their dog. We do show the neighbours balcony in one of the photos, so that guests will know how close it is, but in terms of the noise, we will of course monitor this going forward and keep the property owner updated on any feedback. As this was the first booking for this property, the clean had been completed a few days before your arrival, so we just wanted to reassure you that a full clean had definitely taken place, but in hindsight, perhaps should have been checked again quickly before your arrival, as cobwebs do unfortunately form very quickly in that time. We hope that you still had a great time here and enjoyed exploring lovely Mevagissey. Tanya, Customer Services

Small and basic terraced house in a great location within beautiful village and decent access to surrounding attractions.

Used as a base to explore rather than a home from home...

Well positioned above village, good views. Not suitable for anyone with mobility problems

Reply from Aspects Holidays

It's great to hear how much you enjoyed the great position of this property and those views. Like you quite rightly say, the position of this property and number and steepness of steps, may make it unsuitable for some. For anyone interested in booking this property, we have details on the website, but we are happy to answer any other queries about this so please do not hesitate to contact the sales team if we can provide further information to ensure that it will be suitable. Thank you for taking the time to send in your comments and we hope to see you back here soon. Tanya, Customer Services

The location is very good. Finding the little slip road to the parking area was very difficult and easy to miss even with good directions are provided. Lovely walk into the harbour and again a lovely place to spend a few hours. Plenty of places to eat and drink. The food at The Fountain Inn is out of this world and worth a visit. Took the ferry to Fowey and it is run by very helpful people.

Lovely picture postcard cottage a short walk from Mevagissey harbour, but would recommend parking in a public car park once you have unloaded. The space provided and turning area is very tight, especially if neighbours have more than one vehicle.

First time at this beautiful cottage, was one of the best we have stayed in. Everything was lovely and clean. The lovely surprise Michelle and lizzy left my wife was so very thoughtful made her week. The dogs loved staying here too. We will be returning next year.
