Holidays in Mevagissey

Wish you were here already? Watch our Mevagissey webcam here>

Best known for its harbour and fishing boats, Mevagissey still boasts as being part of Cornwall’s thriving fishing industry. Fresh fish can even be bought from the hut on the harbour wall, located a short stroll from the village aquarium, once the lifeboat station. Wander around the harbour area, with its narrow streets, fascinating shops and galleries and recall its smuggling history, or just relax in the bars and restaurants and coves and on nearby beaches.

If you are lucky enough to be here during Mevagissey Feast Week in the summer, do take full advantage of the activities being held. Said to be the oldest festival in Cornwall, it attracts exhibitions, live music, parades, a fete and wonderful firework display.

There is a ferry boat which runs from end of April to beginning of October from Mevagissey to Fowey three or four times a day (don’t miss the return journey!) – journey time about 35 minutes. You may be lucky and spot some playful dolphins!

Pentewan Beach is the nearest large sandy beach situated a little north of Mevagissey. Please note that dogs are not allowed on the beach from 1 March to 1 November.

Polstreath Beach is also known as Mevagissey beach. It is located just north of Mevagissey and is accessed via the coastal path and steep steps down to the cove.

Gorran Haven beach can be reached via the coastal path, or is just a short drive away. Just two miles from Mevagissey, the quaint village of Gorran Haven has some lovely pubs and cafés, and a gorgeous sandy beach which is a great spot for swimming and kayaking.

There are some wonderful walks in and around Mevagissey, especially if you take the coastal path. You can head south to Gorran Haven, a small fishing village with a beautiful beach, just two miles from Mevagissey. Alternatively, if you travel north, you can head towards Pentewen, another small village with a lovely beach. From Pentewen, you can take the trail through the woods, or if you prefer, you can hire a bike from Pentewen to explore the woodland on wheels.

Lovely cottage - clean and very comfortable, with everything we needed for our stay. Lovely location just minutes from the village and harbour front.

Nicely situated terraced cottage with good views over the valley. Generally well- furnished with well equipped kitchen and good storage for clothes etc. Patio area to the front is very pleasant and sunny for most of the day . Spacious for two of us and fine for family of four but would be a bit tight for four adults.

Do take notice of information about access. The track up to the parking space is steep and very rough and space itself best for a smaller vehicle. There are steep steps down to the cottage and a steep path down to the road into the town.

Whilst there are enough beds to accommodate 4 adults, with a double bedroom and a twin bedroom, 2 sofas in the living area and a dining table with 4 chairs; you may find this too small for 4 adults if you are used to a lot more space. The owners have tried to ensure that guests have everything they should need though, so we hope that it worked well for you. Thank you for your helpful comments and hopefully we will see you back here again soon. Tanya, Customer Services

We loved the area and the town was only a 5 minute walk from our property witch was really good! We really enjoyed our stay whilst we explored Cornwall. Some beautiful restaurants and bars in the little town. The only thing that could have been better is the rugs could do with a shampoo or a wash.

Reply from Aspects Holidays

Thank you for your really helpful feedback. A lot can happen in properties in a short space of time, so thank you for letting us know about the rugs. We will ensure that this information is passed on to the property owner and assist them if they need us to organise trades to get those cleaned. Its great to hear that you had a fantastic time here and got the chance to explore this beautiful part of Cornwall. Thanks again. Tanya, Customer Services

We really liked Balamory, comfortable, spacious house, with a lovely decking area overlooking Mevagissey. Michelle as Aspects has been brilliant as always :)

The parking is tricky, especially if you have a larger vehicle.

Not a recommended property for anyone with mobility issues.

Reply from Aspects Holidays

Great to hear how much you enjoyed this property and thanks for you lovely comment; Michelle was over the moon to read that :-) The parking space is a little tight and with the steps up to the property, it may not suit those with limited mobility, so we do try to make all of this as clear as we can within the description. We hope that it was what you had expected from the details provided and that it worked well for all your party. Thanks again for your comments and we hope to see you back here again soon. Great house, amazing location, very comfortable and good size! Had a lovely week away.

Our stay was great and the location was good in terms of how close it was to the harbour. This was our second Aspects stay and I would recommend the company for holidays in Cornwall. There were a few issues that did affect our holiday a bit:

The neighbours (I think they live there) were really loud on their balcony on the day that we got there (the photos don't show how close together the balconies are). They weren't loud for the rest of the week but their dog barked constantly as they were left home alone. They also barked early in the morning. The neighbours also double parked which made it even harder for us to get out of the already tight parking space.

Most importantly, the cottage looked fairly clean but there were cobwebs everywhere! This made me wonder how well the cleaners had done their 'deep clean' to prevent the spread for COVID.

Reply from Aspects Holidays

Thank you for taking the time to send in your review. As the first booking into this property, it is really helpful to hear how you have found it, as guests get to experience properties in a very different way than we do when we visit them. We are sorry to hear that you experienced noise from the neighbours and their dog. We do show the neighbours balcony in one of the photos, so that guests will know how close it is, but in terms of the noise, we will of course monitor this going forward and keep the property owner updated on any feedback. As this was the first booking for this property, the clean had been completed a few days before your arrival, so we just wanted to reassure you that a full clean had definitely taken place, but in hindsight, perhaps should have been checked again quickly before your arrival, as cobwebs do unfortunately form very quickly in that time. We hope that you still had a great time here and enjoyed exploring lovely Mevagissey. Tanya, Customer Services

Small and basic terraced house in a great location within beautiful village and decent access to surrounding attractions.

Used as a base to explore rather than a home from home...

Well positioned above village, good views. Not suitable for anyone with mobility problems

Reply from Aspects Holidays

It's great to hear how much you enjoyed the great position of this property and those views. Like you quite rightly say, the position of this property and number and steepness of steps, may make it unsuitable for some. For anyone interested in booking this property, we have details on the website, but we are happy to answer any other queries about this so please do not hesitate to contact the sales team if we can provide further information to ensure that it will be suitable. Thank you for taking the time to send in your comments and we hope to see you back here soon. Tanya, Customer Services

The location is very good. Finding the little slip road to the parking area was very difficult and easy to miss even with good directions are provided. Lovely walk into the harbour and again a lovely place to spend a few hours. Plenty of places to eat and drink. The food at The Fountain Inn is out of this world and worth a visit. Took the ferry to Fowey and it is run by very helpful people.

Lovely picture postcard cottage a short walk from Mevagissey harbour, but would recommend parking in a public car park once you have unloaded. The space provided and turning area is very tight, especially if neighbours have more than one vehicle.

First time at this beautiful cottage, was one of the best we have stayed in. Everything was lovely and clean. The lovely surprise Michelle and lizzy left my wife was so very thoughtful made her week. The dogs loved staying here too. We will be returning next year.
