This unique building started life as a granite store where the local fishermen hung their nets to dry. Then it became 'the old workshop' where they mended and repaired their fishing nets and lobster pots. Just seconds from the harbour, The Old Workshop has been converted to an unusual and interesting holiday home, set in the old fishing quarter of St Ives known as Downalong. The Old Workshop is ideally situated for a walk into town along the harbour front where there are many choices of restaurants catering for all tastes. It is also within walking distance of all of St Ives' golden sandy beaches.

Kitchen/sitting/dining room

electric microwave oven and hob, fridge, washing machine, dining table and four chairs. Open staircase to mezzanine with a two seater sofa and chair. TV/DVD, library of books.

Ground floor bedroom

double bed, storage, hairdryer, window to front of property.

Shower room

walk-in shower, WC, basin.

Additional information

electric heating, please note that the bedroom is built into the Blue Elvin wall and due to the properties of granite rock used in the construction of the cottage and being coastal, the property may be unsuitable for guests with respiratory problem, please enquire if you feel anyone in your party could be affected. The Internet connection is via a MiFi device which is not suitable for streaming or downloading. Please note that there is no freezer compartment within the fridge, WiFi, one dog welcome, short breaks available.

 

I had a great time at The Old Workshop, everything was a few minutes away, beaches on the doorstep, amazing views and the service was great. The cottage was perfect for what I needed and I just felt at home.

Local events

St Ives Feast Day

Held on the anniversary of the consecration of the Parish Church of St Eia in 1434 AD, Feast Day offers visitors to witness - and even join in with - some centuries-old traditions. A morning precesison led by the Mayor to bless the Well of St Eia. Following this, the Mayor will 'Hurls the Silver Ball' into a crowd of children who assemble on the beach below. The one who returns the ball to the Guildhall steps by midday receives a silver coin. In the afternoon the Mayor then throw pennies from the balcony of the Guildhall for children to collect.
