The tradition of Tom Bawcock comes from the feast or famine lifestyle of Cornwall. The story goes that it was just before Christmas; there had been no fish for weeks, the boats couldn’t get out into the raging storm, the village was starving. One man, Tom Bawcock, dared to take his boat out of the harbour’s safety. He returned with enough fish to make fish pie for the whole village.
Today, a festival takes place each year to celebrate Tom Bawcock's bravery. During the festival, Star Gazey pies are eaten in memory of this famous event.

The apartment was lovely and really well decorated and equipped. The only real issue we encountered was the parking. We were aware of the dimensions of the garage when we booked but were unable to get our VW Golf in the space. There are 3 Visitor parking spaces but they are very sought after, however we did find spaces on the road during our stay. The apartment is really handy for the station to get to St Ives which is a cheap and stressless option If you want to go there. We would definitely consider returning in the future.

We are glad that you liked it here, though sorry that the garage space was not what you had expected. We try to make the dimensions as clear as possible, but you will need to consider space that will be required to open and get out of the vehicle once inside the garage. The measurements online are the full width, height, and length of the interior of the garage. Should the garage space be unsuitable, there are the visitor spaces, but these are available on a first come, first served basis. The nearby on street parking will involve a bit of a walk and though it is also on a first come first served basis, there are generally spaces to be found. We are glad to hear that this apartment worked well for you and we hope to see you back soon. Tanya, Customer services
Very nice apartment great location and fantastic view across the bay close to the railway station.
Mr Pitt Nov 2019
Compass Point, Apartment 16 was a wonderful apartment. The detail in the fixtures and fittings was really good. The beds were very comfortable and the overall apartment was very well decorated. And the view from the windows, conservatory and sun area were outstanding. A great apartment, well worth the money.
And to be in bed, and listen to the sea crashing on the beach was fantastic.
Mrs Jones Oct 2019
Lovely holiday home with superb views over the bay. Well equipped and maintained and ideally positioned for catching the train into St Ives and walking down to Carbis Bay.
Mr Back Oct 2019
What an amazing apartment with amazing views, we were very sad to leave. The location is great, just a minutes walk to Carbis Bay train station so our trips into St Ives were picturesque, no need to use the car if you don’t want too.
We were very lucky to see 2 firework displays on Carbis Bay Beach during our weeks stay
Mrs Agar Aug 2019
Great apartment but check the parking details re car size first (unlike me) as it’s quite tight!
Mr Crump Aug 2019
Lovely, well-appointed and exceptionally clean apartment with excellent views. Be aware of parking difficulties when booking and be prepared to find alternative parking. Our VW Tiguan would fit in the garage but only just. There are double yellow lines along most of the road. Pay and display parking at the station just below if required. We had no difficulty using visitor parking but it would not be so easy at busy times. Well worth it though to enjoy this excellent holiday location with spectacular views across St Ives Bay. We particularly enjoyed the option to eat outside on the balcony or inside in the conservatory overlooking the sea.

We are really sorry if the parking space hadn't been what was expected. It is within a garage, so whilst it will fit most cars, you have to allow for space to open doors to get out of your vehicle, so it will not be suitable for all vehicles. We include measurements on the website so that customers can make an informed choice as to whether this space will work for their vehicles, so we are really sorry to hear that this was not suitable for your vehicle and that you had to park elsewhere. We hope that it didn't take the shine off your holiday; it certainly sounds like you had otherwise had a fantastic time there though. If you are ever looking to return, please do not hesitate to contact us before booking, so that we can check on suitability of parking for you, and help you chose somewhere that better suits all of your requirements. Tanya, Customer Services
A really lovely, quiet apartment with amazing sea views from the large balcony. Carbis Bay beach is only a short walk away which is perfect. Would definitely stay again and have already recommended to a friend.
Mrs Fisher Aug 2018
Absolutely amazing holiday apartment, beautiful views and fantastic location. Thank you
Mrs Richardson Aug 2018
The apartment was so handy for the train into St Ives, 3 minutes and £1 each way. Much easier than finding parking in St Ives. Carbis Bay beach is beautiful, the apartment is ideally located for the beach, which has great facilities. The Apartment has good facilities and was comfortable. Sitting on the balcony in the evening was lovely. No noise and great neighbours.
Mrs Harcourt Aug 2018
16 Compass Point is an immaculate, lovely apartment, in an excellent position. Stunning views, conservatory is such a bonus. Very well equipped, comfy beds, pleasing decor. Access to the train for St Ives is so handy, given the parking difficulties there. Carbis Bay beach just down the road is perfect. Not so perfect is the walk back up!!
Mrs Jenkins May 2018
Loved the apartment. It is very spacious with great views & a wonderful outside seating area.
Ms Canning Aug 2017
I've said it all above, but thanks to all the staff at Aspects, to the management team who ensure apartment is pristine, and to the owners who have equipped it so well with everything you could possibly need.
Mrs Jenkins May 2017
Perfect location for a mobile person. Lots of steep walks in the area so that in addition to steps at the apartment block it wouldn't suit anyone with mobility issues. The accommodation was excellent. Very well presented & clean. Home from home
Ms Jones Apr 2016
This is a superb location for an extremely well appointed apartment, stunning views and with station giving access to St Ives just steps away, alleviating the problem of parking in St Ives! We enjoyed a great week here, and would love to return. Would suggest not suitable for anybody with mobility problems, as there are quite a few stairs to negotiate, price one has to pay to get those views! Otherwise, perfect for a peaceful break.
Mrs Jenkins May 2015
Fantastic apartment. Perfect location and really well appointed. Great place for a holiday
