Casa Del Mar is perfectly positioned right on the quay with front row views of the harbour. It's an ideal location to watch the hustle and bustle of a working fishing harbour or wander around this pretty village where some of the best local restaurants are only moments away. Alternatively, grab yourself an ice cream and soak up the atmosphere or explore some of the great local beaches, many of which are within a short walk or drive away. The property itself is ideal for couples, walkers and dog lovers, and has the added benefit of being on one level.

With its historic winding streets lined with pubs, shops and restuarants, Mevagissey has plenty to offer, whether it's for a short break or longer. Much of the nearby coastline is owned and protected by the National Trust and offers stunning coastal walks. Close by you'll find some excellent beaches, such as Porthpean, Gorran Haven and Caerhays. Just a few miles away is the historic port of Charlestown; the harbour is the home port for a famous collection of old ships which are used in film projects all over the world, including Poldark!

Holidays in Mevagissey

Best known for its harbour and fishing boats, Mevagissey still boasts as being part of Cornwall’s thriving fishing industry. Fresh fish can even be bought from the hut on the harbour wall, located a short stroll from the village aquarium, once the lifeboat station. Wander around the harbour area, with its narrow streets, fascinating shops and galleries and recall its smuggling history, or just relax in the bars and restaurants and coves and on nearby beaches.

If you are lucky enough to be here during Mevagissey Feast Week in the summer, do take full advantage of the activities being held. Said to be the oldest festival in Cornwall, it attracts exhibitions, live music, parades, a fete and wonderful firework display.

There is a ferry boat which runs from end of April to beginning of October from Mevagissey to Fowey three or four times a day (don’t miss the return journey!) – journey time about 35 minutes. You may be lucky and spot some playful dolphins!

Beaches

Pentewan Beach is the nearest large sandy beach situated a little north of Mevagissey. Please note that dogs are not allowed on the beach from 1 March to 1 November.

Polstreath Beach is also known as Mevagissey beach. It is located just north of Mevagissey and is accessed via the coastal path and steep steps down to the cove. 

Walks

There are some wonderful walks in and around Mevagissey, especially if you take the coastal path. You can head south to Gorran Haven, a small fishing village just two miles from Mevagissey. Alternatively, if you travel north, you can head towards Pentewen, another small village with a lovely beach. From Pentewen, you can take the trail through the woods, or if you prefer, you can hire a bike from Pentewen to explore the woodland on wheels.

Stithians Show

Celebrated since the early 1800s, the Stihtains Show is a fine agricultural event showcasing animals, arts and crafts, food and drink, music and more. Don't miss the Countryside Area and Exhibition Ring.

Truro City of Lights

A festival of light delights the crowds who line the streets to see a parade of giant handmade lanterns. All manner of samba, brass and pipe bands process alongside, accompanied by flamboyant dancers. Further outdoor music performances take place throught the evening and there are many a food and drink stall at which to pick up a tasty snack or warming drink.
