Fold back the sitting room doors and allow the gentle morning breeze to flow through. With nothing but the sweet sound of birdsong and leaves gently rustling in the trees, there's no better way to start the day than sitting on Cartway Cottage's terrace, with an ocean view in the distance. Enjoy a Cornish Coffee and freshly toasted bread with lashings of melting butter and plan the day's adventures. Tear yourself away from the calming interiors of this charming home and take a refreshing shower before heading out for the day exploring. Tie up your trusted walking boots and head for the South West Coast Path, stopping for a picnic lunch of finger sandwiches and a cream tea on the way. Whether it's a coastal ramble, a day basking in the sunshine on warm, golden sand or an afternoon in the surf, your returning home to Cartway Cottage will bring welcome rest at the end of a busy day. Enjoy a lazy sunset supper of local Cornish cheese with a refreshing bottle of crisp white wine from the nearby Polgoon Vineyard. As the night draws in, cuddle up together in the spacious, alluring, sitting room for an evening of good conversation and spending quality time together. When it's time to retire to the comfort of the king size bed, with nothing to hear but the faint hoot of an owl in one of the nearby trees, you are sure to have a peaceful nights sleep.

Cartway Cottage is located in the pretty village of Gulval, ideally located for short drives into Penzance, Marazion, almost endless choices of beaches and the back roads leading to St Ives. Follow the sweeping drive that leads through the owners' beautiful garden, to find Cartway Cottage tucked in the corner. If you can tear yourself away from this peaceful haven, a short stroll from the cottage will take you into the heart of the idyllic village of Gulval. The Coldstreamer Inn offers dining out and evenings of entertainment. By day, the Agapanthus Tea Room in the village offers freshly made lunches and tempting homemade cakes. Tea and cake outside with a sea view, what a perfect way to spend a relaxing afternoon. The iconic St Michael's Mount and the old market town of Marazion are just a few minutes drive away. Neighbouring Penzance offers shops, galleries and several places to eat. Take a walk along the prom and a dip in the geothermally heated Jubilee Pool. With several tropical gardens scattered around the area too, there is something for everyone within minutes of leaving home. Cartway Cottage has been lovingly created to ensure lifelong memories of a very special holiday, which you will want to repeat year after year.

Holidays in West Cornwall

There is almost an embarrassment of riches for the visitor to choose from when looking at holiday cottages in West Cornwall. With its extraordinary variety of landscapes and coastline, as well as its proud history and cultural heritage, you won't be disappointed.

With many superb beaches to enjoy, including five with the coveted Blue Flag status, it is easy to see why so many people associate this part of the world with sun, sea, sand and, of course, surf. There is, however, so much more on offer when contemplating self catering holidays in West Cornwall.

West Cornwall is home to popular destinations such as MarazionPenzanceCarbis Bay and St Ives, which are all worth a visit. From the iconic St Michael's Mount to the breath taking Minack Theatre as featured in our blog, you wont be short of things to do while self catering in West Cornwall.

Things to do in West Cornwall

Days out

With such an abundance of stunning sights in West Cornwall, you'll be spoilt for choice when choosing where to visit while holidaying here. St Michael's Mount, The Minack Theatre, and St Ives harbour are just a few of the enthralling places on offer. The many golden sandy beaches that West Cornwall boasts are perfect for topping up the tan. For something a little more energetic, boat trips, fishing excursions and water sports are available. Museums and art galleries provide an equally enjoyable day out, with world famous exhibitions at the Tate St Ives and the Barbara Hepworth museum within easy reach.

With the bustling coastal towns of St Ives, Mousehole and Marazion within close proximity of one another, you can be sure to find somewhere to provide everything you need to the perfect family day out.

Walking

Cornwall's spectacular scenery provides the perfect backdrop for exploring. The coastal paths which hug the rugged cliffs offer breath taking sea views, while walking inland you can enjoy the many nature reserves, ancient stone circles and woodland, for which Cornwall is renowned.

Art & heritage

Famous for its quality of light, the area has long been a haven for artists and there are many galleries to be found wherever you go. There are also many gardens to enjoy; the mild climate will often let plants flourish here which you won’t find anywhere else in the country. For those wanting to dig a little deeper, there is also an amazing mining and maritime heritage which has done much to shape the county and its people as well as, it could be argued, the rest of the world.

A wonderful restful break over New Year. The property was very quiet and peaceful. There are pleasant walks nearby and great views over the bay. The host was very friendly and helpful. Thank you very much for everything.

What a lovely time we had at Cartway cottage! The property itself is very well appointed- everything was nearly new - all very comfortable. Good location - Gulval is within east walking of Penzance and Marazion - with the whole of West Cornwall in easy reach. There is also a good bus service in the area so you can avoid using the car all week if you wanted. Note that the local pub has closed but the kitchen is well-equipped for making your own meals. Ruth and Tim are extremely friendly - Ruth in particular is very attentive whilst being very careful to let you have your privacy. We would definitely recommend ??

Cartway Cottage is a delight. Wonderfully comfortable bed, perfect shower room and great kitchen. Everything has been thoughtfully provided to make a stay here perfect. From luxurious linens to top quality kitchen equipment and furniture. The location was perfect for us. There is a pub and tea room just 5 minutes walk away. The hosts were lovely and made us feel very welcome it was a joy to meet them. Nothing was too much trouble. Great value for money. We do intend to visit again. Barbara and Ian.

We can highly recommend this gem of a property. It is very well appointed, well equipped and spotlessly clean. The owners are most welcoming. It is also perfectly situated to explore both the north and south coasts of this part of Cornwall. All in all a very peaceful and relaxing break, just perfect for the two of us. We hope to return again soon.

Delightful cottage and an excellent base for touring Cornwall

Cartway Cottage is in a lovely quiet location but within easy walking distance to Penzance and the whole of Mount's Bay.

The owners of the property were very welcoming and offered advice on what is available in the area.

We enjoyed our short stay very much and intend to book again.

I would thoroughly recommend a stay in Cartway Cottage. The cottage is immaculately clean and beautifully presented. The owners (who live in the adjacent building) were very friendly and welcoming. The cottage is located close to Penzance with easy access to many beaches, and coastal walks.
